Vikings Sideline WR Justin Jefferson With 'Very Mild' Hamstring Strain

Fox Sports3 days ago
The Minnesota Vikings will keep wide receiver Justin Jefferson off the field for a while because of a mild strain of his left hamstring.
Coach Kevin O'Connell said before practice on Friday that Jefferson would be re-evaluated next week.
The two-time All-Pro, who has the most receiving yards in NFL history over a player's first five years, felt some tightness in his leg during the team's session on Thursday and cut short his participation as a precaution. The Vikings sent him for an MRI exam afterward.
O'Connell described the injury as "very mild" and said he had no concerns about Jefferson being ready for the season opener at Chicago on Sept. 8, which is more than six weeks away.
Still, considering his value to the team, the type of injury and the demands of his position, Jefferson figures to miss more than just a few days of training camp practices.
Jefferson suffered a significant strain of his right hamstring in 2023 that caused him to miss seven games.

Minnesota Vikings training camp notebook, day 6: Defense has a strong showing

The Minnesota Vikings were in pads for the first time on Monday. That means we're one step closer to football, with players in the trenches able to get physical and give us a better glimpse of what they're capable of moving forward. One promising young player had a great practice in pads. A free agent addition made his first appearance in team drills. And we saw another highlight touchdown pass from J.J. McCarthy. Let's go over some of the highlights of Day 6 of Vikings practice. But overall, the Vikings' defense bounced back after the offense had the upper hand on Saturday. That is bound to happen in the third year under Brian Flores with an even more formidable defensive front than last year. J.J. McCarthy continues to impress McCarthy had another highlight touchdown pass on Monday. After feeling some pressure in the pocket, McCarthy fired down the left sideline towards wide receiver Lucky Jackson. It appeared that safety Theo Jackson could intercept the pass, but the ball arrived a split second before he could get a hand on it. The pass once again displayed McCarthy's arm strength and willingness to be aggressive. A worse pass (or faster safety) could have led to an interception. Will Fries makes his debut in team drills One of the Vikings' biggest free agent additions of the offseason made his first appearance in team drills. Right guard Will Fries, who suffered a broken tibia in 2024, was cleared to practice when camp began last Thursday, but he was limited to individual work. On Monday, he was inserted into the starting lineup in 11-on-11 drills. Dallas Turner makes an impact Dallas Turner was limited to 310 defensive snaps in 2024. But he showed why the Vikings traded up to select him in the NFL draft. Several Vikings media members talked about Turner's impact on Monday, with one highlight making the rounds on X/Twitter when he got to backup quarterback Sam Howell before he could complete a pass downfield. Turner continues to draw praise as he looks to impact the defense more consistently in 2025. Metellus returns, Jefferson out Josh Metellus returned to practice after missing Friday and Saturday practices with an ankle injury. It was the safety's first practice back since signing his three-year, $36 million deal on Saturday. Justin Jefferson, who suffered a mild hamstring strain last week, was still out. Overall, it seemed as though the defense got the better end of the deal on Monday. The Vikings' social media team even singled out a pass breakup by cornerback Dwight McGlothern that was intercepted by safety Jay Ward. We'll see if the Vikings' offense can bounce back on Tuesday, but they will likely have many more tough practices if the defense is as strong as the coaching staff and front office envision it to be. Tyler Guyton injury update: Cowboys suffers bone fracture

The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2025 NFL season planning to use Tyler Guyton as their full-time left tackle. It briefly appeared Brian Schottenheimer's club might have to pivot after the 2024 first-round pick was injured during Dallas' training camp practice on Monday, July 28. However, the Cowboys got some good news about the injury, as an MRI revealed Guyton avoided a torn ACL, which the team had initially feared. Here's what to know about Guyton's injury: Tyler Guyton injury update Guyton suffered a bone fracture during Dallas' practice Monday, ESPN's Todd Archer reports. Originally, the 24-year-old was feared to have suffered a season-ending ACL tear, but an MRI revealed the ligament was intact. Guyton is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks by the fracture. That might allow him to be ready for Week 1. Guyton's injury occurred late in Dallas' practice on Monday. The second-year tackle was "rolled up during a pass play," per Archer. Guyton remained on the ground for a couple of minutes after a play before he was able to get up and slowly walk to the locker room. The Cowboys did not immediately provide an update about Guyton after Monday's practice ended. Who is Tyler Guyton's backup? In Guyton's absence, the Cowboys will likely rely on Asim Richards to man the left tackle position. Richards, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of UNC, played 177 snaps at left tackle for Dallas last season. He committed just one penalty and allowed one sack in his limited action. Dallas also has sixth-round rookie Ajani Cornelius, free-agent signee Hakeem Adeniji and 2022 fifth-round pick Matt Waletzko on the roster at the position. Guyton's injury is the second significant one to a Dallas offensive lineman to start training camp. Veteran guard Rob Jones, who is competing with first-round rookie Tyler Booker to replace Zack Martin at right guard, told reporters he is expected to miss 2-3 months after breaking a bone in his neck. Tyler Guyton stats Guyton played in 15 games for the Cowboys as a rookie and made 11 starts. The Oklahoma product struggled with penalties, committing 18, and also allowed six sacks. Guyton earned an overall grade of 49.4 from Pro Football Focus, which ranked 73rd among 81 qualified tackles for the 2024 NFL season.
