Giants' Russell Wilson slated to start in preseason matchup vs Bills: report
It is not known how long Wilson will play, but rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is also expected to play extended minutes, according to NorthJersey.com and The Record's report.
Wilson, 36, signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the team in the offseason and was named the starting quarterback when training camp began in July.
Wilson spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a 6-5 record in 11 games with them. The 10-time Pro Bowler completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions last season.
Wilson was not the only quarterback the Giants signed in free agency, as the team also brought in Jameis Winston on a two-year contract. It is unclear how much playing time Winston will receive against the Bills, with Wilson and Dart expected to receive most of the snaps with the first and second teams.
Winston and Dart have competed for the backup quarterback job throughout training camp, and that competition will continue on Saturday.
Winston played in 12 games with the Cleveland Browns last year, including seven starts, and completed 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Throughout his 10-year career, Winston has not been afraid to put the ball into danger, as he has 154 career touchdowns and 111 career interceptions.
Dart, last season with Ole Miss, led the SEC in completion percentage (69.3%) and (4,279) yards with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions.
The Giants gave up their 2025 second-round pick (No. 34 overall), their 2025 third-round pick (No. 99 overall) and their 2026 third-round pick in exchange for the Houston Texans' No. 25 overall pick to select Dart.
The preseason will be especially important for Dart's development, because if Wilson plays well, Dart might not receive any playing time during the regular season.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jermaine Johnson is officially back and ready to bolster the New York Jets' pass rush. The edge rusher was activated from the active/physically unable to perform list Sunday after passing his physical 11 months after tearing his right Achilles tendon. The 26-year-old Johnson, a Pro Bowl selection after the 2023 season, was injured in the third quarter of New York's 24-17 victory at Tennessee in Week 2 last season. Coach Aaron Glenn said in June that the 2022 first-round draft pick out of Florida State was 'close' to being ready for the start of training camp and would likely start on the physically unable to perform list, 'but he'll be ready for the season.' Johnson is ready — and was activated in time for the Jets' joint practices with the Giants on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of their preseason game Saturday night. He'll also be in position to play in the regular-season opener at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers and former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who offered Johnson advice about recovering from a torn Achilles tendon after Rodgers recovered from the same injury in his first season with New York in 2023. The two also texted during the offseason. 'It was a pleasure having Aaron around and stuff like that and I wish him the best,' Johnson said in June. 'But when I get between those lines, there's no friends. And I think he knows that and he feels the same, so I'm excited. 'It's just another game, but for me, it's going to be my first game back and there's a lot of emotions. And when my emotions run high, I tend to play pretty well.' Despite the uncertainty over the injury, Glenn and the Jets picked up Johnson's fifth-year contract option in April, along with those of fellow 2022 first-rounders Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson. Johnson had 2 1/2 sacks in 14 games as a rookie after being drafted 26th overall before breaking out with 7 1/2 in 2023 while starting all 17 games for New York. He also had 16 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss and returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown. Then came the setback last season, just as he was blossoming into a force on the Jets' defense. Johnson's return comes as Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams continues to recover from a calf injury. Raleigh hits MLB-leading 45th homer as the Mariners beat the Rays 6-3 for 7th straight win
SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 45th home run in a four-run first inning and the Seattle Mariners hung on for a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. It was Seattle's seventh straight win, the longest active run in the American League. Josh Naylor also homered for the Mariners, who wrapped up a 9-1 homestand. Seattle starter Bryan Woo (10-6) allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings with nine strikeouts. It was his 23rd start this season of six innings or more. Raleigh's two-run home run came off Rays starter Adrian Houser before Eugenio Suarez added a two-run single for the Mariners in the first. Raleigh, who homered in all three games of the seriers, hit No. 44, a three-run shot, in the third inning of the Mariners' 7-4 victory over the Rays on Saturday. The Rays chipped away at Seattle's lead. Ha-Seong Kim's double in the second scored Brandon Lowe to close the gap. Yandy Diaz added an RBI grounder in the third.
