Tech CEOs are using AI to replace themselves
Tech company CEOs aren't just making their companies AI-first: this week, they're using AI avatars to replace themselves in earnings calls.
Buy now, pay later company Klarna featured the AI version of CEO and co-founder Sebastian Siemiatkowski in an 83-second about its Q1 2025 results, as reported by TechCrunch. The video's description says that his 'AI avatar' is presenting the results, and the AI avatar kicks off the video by saying that 'it's me, or rather, my AI avatar.'
Klarna has already been vocal about how it uses AI in its business, with Siemiatkowski telling CNBC this month that the company shrunk its workforce in part as a result of its AI investments. This also isn't even the first time the company has used an AI version of Siemiatkowski to share earnings.
Zoom CEO Eric Yuan also deployed an AI version of himself for the company's Q1 2026 earnings call on Wednesday. 'Today, I'm using our custom avatars for Zoom Clips with AI Companion to share my part of the earnings report,' Yuan's avatar said in a video. 'I'm proud to be among the first-ever CEOs to use an avatar in an earnings call.' In the top right corner of the video, you can see a message that says 'created with Zoom AI Companion.'
The human Yuan showed up for the live Q&A portion of the call, though. 'I truly love my AI-generated avatar,' he said while responding to the first question. 'I think we are going to continue using that. I can tell you – I like that experience a lot.' Perhaps not surprising from the guy who wants 'digital twins' to attend meetings on your behalf.

Nationally Acclaimed Coding School Now Offers STEM After-School Programs and Summer Camps in The Woodlands (Houston, TX)
Well-established for STEM in Houston, iCode opens in The Woodlands with Summer Camps and After-School Programs THE WOODLANDS, TX, UNITED STATES, June 11, 2025 / / -- Families in The Woodlands now have a new option for summer learning and after-school enrichment with the opening of another iCode, a STEM-focused education center offering all-day and half-day summer camps for students ages 5 to 16. Located at 2001 Timberloch Pl #500, The Woodlands, TX 77380, the new iCode campus provides hands-on summer camp experiences where kids learn to build games, code with Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnite, engineer robots, create and edit videos, explore 3D printing, and even program drones, all in a fun, structured environment. With weekly full-day and half-day summer camps, the award-winning program is built to fit family schedules while offering meaningful learning experiences. Each camp blends screen time with collaborative projects, hands-on experiences, and instructor-led challenges. 'This is more than just tech camp, it's a place where kids discover they can create, solve problems, and think like developers,' said the center's director, Mrs. Duggal. 'We're excited to bring iCode to the families of The Woodlands.' In addition to summer camps, iCode also offers After School Programs this August. The program offers a year-round curriculum that allows students to progress through different 'belts' - similar to martial arts - gaining skills in computer science, robotics, and game, web development, while building soft skills like teamwork and critical thinking. As interest in STEM education grows across Houston-area schools, coding schools like iCode are emerging as popular choices for families seeking a balance of academic enrichment and hands-on fun in The Woodlands. This new location offers a convenient option for families looking for quality enrichment that goes beyond traditional tutoring or childcare. To help families explore the program, iCode is offering a free trial coding class and hosting a free STEM Open House for kids and teens this summer. Families can RSVP through the events page on the iCode website. Enrollment for iCode summer camp in The Woodlands is now open, with limited spots available each week. Only 0.4% of design job listings are asking for expertise in these popular AI tools
From Shopify and Duolingo to Google and OpenAI, AI-first companies are now defining our era. And just about every designer Fast Company has talked to for the past three years has shifted from a deep-seated fear of AI to a steady adoption of these AI tools in some part of their workflow. But when analyzing 176,000 design job listings for our upcoming 'Where the Design Jobs Are' report (out June 16), we were struck by a most surprising finding. Only 0.4% of design jobs asked for experience in specific AI tools, including ChatGPT, Dall-E, Midjourney, and Runway. In fact, only 8% of all listings made any mention of AI at all. And even then the term was generally used in marketing speak, the kind that positions a company as being 'AI-powered.' After reaching out to a dozen major companies across industries to figure out why, we heard a somewhat unsatisfying, but also common, refrain: 'We aren't asking for specific proficiencies with AI tools explicitly as part of the hiring process at the moment,' wrote a Figma spokesperson in response to our request. 'That said, we tend to hire people who are curiously exploring and studying new tools that help improve their work . . . [and] it can be helpful to see how candidates get creative with AI, whether via side projects or for their core work.'

UK's Starling Bank rolls out Gen AI powered chatbot
Starling, a UK digital bank, has launched a new generative AI chatbot named 'Spending Intelligence', integrated within its mobile app. The chatbot is designed to answer customer queries about their spending habits. It is powered by Gemini, Google's LLM, and operates within the Google Cloud Platform, where Starling hosts its tech infrastructure. Spending Intelligence is now available to all Starling customers, including personal and business account holders. The chatbot is accessible via a search bar located at the top of the existing 'spending' section of the app, providing users with insights into their spending patterns across more than 50 customisable categories. The new chatbot builds on this functionality by enabling users to ask questions about their spending during defined timeframes. Spending Intelligence draws only on data from within customers' Starling accounts and does not offer financial advice, such as investment suggestions or savings strategies, due to regulatory boundaries. The feature is free to use and, according to Starling's chief information officer Harriet Rees, there are 'absolutely no plans to make it paid for use', according to This is Money. By analysing the types of questions customers ask, Starling also hopes to identify opportunities for further AI deployment, such as fraud detection and onboarding processes. As part of its agreement with Google, any data received through customer interactions with the chatbot will not be used to train Gemini's LLMs. While future updates may include features such as suggesting ways to save money, for now, the chatbot is focused solely on providing insights into spending. Rees said: 'We're having a think about how you could save. But we genuinely believe giving customers insights about how they are spending is the best way to get them thinking about where they could save.' In April, Starling Bank's Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) division, Engine by Starling, established its first international subsidiary, Engine by Starling Services US. "UK's Starling Bank rolls out Gen AI powered chatbot " was originally created and published by Retail Banker International, a GlobalData owned brand.
