The UFC made three fairly noteworthy roster cuts this week, and one of them was the release of Antonina Shevchenko, the sister of reigning UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
On Thursday, Antonina, 40, the oldest of the two Shevchenko sisters, announced her retirement from mixed martial arts on her Instagram page. Her message was lengthy and heartfelt, which displays why she was a fan favorite during her eight fights in the UFC.

'Dear friends,' Shevchenko wrote. "I didn't have the opportunity to leave my gloves in the octagon by tradition, I didn't think my fight in UFC in 2022 would be the last.
'I am leaving my gloves' in this post."
At the end of Shevchenko's post, she shouted out Valentina and invited fans to cheer her on as she continues her career in the UFC.
'And of course, thanks to the fans who cheered up and supported! We will cheer together for my sister now! @bulletvalentina.'

Shevchenko's decision comes as no surprise as she hasn't fought in nearly three years. Shevchenko also recently had a son and has taken up a career as a pilot, according to her Instagram page.
It appears Shevchenko and the promotion have parted on good terms, and Valentina–someone UFC CEO Dana White has always spoken glowingly about–is set to defend her title against Manon Fiorot on May 10 at UFC 315.
Antonina's last fight was a unanimous decision win over Cortney Casey in July 2022. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak and, as it turns out, was likely the best possible retirement bout for her.
While Antonina's career never reached the heights of her younger sister's, the former's 10-4 career mark is above average. She owns wins over Ji Yeon Kim, Lucie Pudilova, Ariane Lipski da Silva and Casey.
Here is a breakdown of Shevchenko's MMA career record.

J.K. Dobbins posts Photoshop in Broncos uniform: 'We're going to do great things'

J.K. Dobbins posts Photoshop in Broncos uniform: 'We're going to do great things' Just hours after officially signing a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday, new running back J.K. Dobbins was out on the practice field for his first session with his new club. 'It felt amazing," Dobbins said after Wednesday's practice. "It's a true blessing to me. I'm so happy to be here. We're going to do great things this year.' Dobbins, 26, received an unrestricted free agent tender from the Los Angeles Chargers in April, but he was still allowed to negotiate with other clubs leading up to training camp. After visiting the Broncos' facility last week, he returned to Denver this week to finalize a deal. 'I'm a pretty patient person, and I was just feeling it out," Dobbins said. "[I was] letting everything play out how it's supposed to be. It was a little stressful with some things that happened in there, but I knew I was going to get to where I needed to be. I am where I need to be.' After his first two days with the club, Dobbins shared a preview of what he'll look like in a Broncos uniform on his Instagram page. 'I felt like it was the best fit for me," Dobbins said when asked why he signed with Denver. "The defense is really good — like super good. The quarterback is amazing. I like the [running back] room. [The offensive] line is amazing as well. It was a no-brainer — and Coach Sean Payton and all the other coaches on staff, too. I know I'll get coached well here. I also heard that it's a good fan base. That's why I'm here.' After totaling 1,058 yards from scrimmage and scoring nine touchdowns in 13 games with the Los Angeles Chargers last year, Dobbins is now set to face his old team twice in 2025 (view the Broncos' full schedule). Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 69

Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 69 Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 69 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 3-2 UFC main cards, 2025: 52-43-1 Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 preview Namajunas (13-7 MMA, 11-6 UFC) will look to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Erin Blanchfield in November. Prior to that setback, the former strawweight champ won back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez. Since committing to the flyweight division, Namajunas has produced mixed results with a record of 2-2. ... Maverick (15-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) has been running hot on a four-fight winning streak. On her current run, she has stopped Priscila Cachoeira and won unanimous decisions over Andrea Lee, Dione Barbosa and Jamey-Lyn Horth. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 expert pick, prediction The co-main event ESPN features a ranked women's flyweight fight between Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick. Although neither fighter is particularly close to the other, both ladies do have experience training together in the past. Both women eventually found their way to the quiet martial arts hotbed of Colorado amid their UFC careers, but I'd argue that the move has benefited Namajunas more. Despite Elliott Marshall and the Elevation Fight Team being a solid source for training and coaching alike, Maverick's striking game has morphed into more of a backfoot, tit-for-tat style that seemingly causes issues for her inherent grappling strengths and takedown entries alike. Namajunas may officially stand at 0-1 opposite UFC-level southpaws, but her lone sample in that department is a strange one considering that it was a competitive loss to Manon Fiorot in a fight where the former strawweight champ broke her hand in the first minute of Round 1. Nevertheless, Namajunas still showed a solid ability to adapt and match stances with Fiorot. And given that Namajunas has a history or training with southpaws that range from Valentina Shevchenko to J.J. Aldrich, I suspect that she'll fair well against the more rote striking of Maverick. It's also worth noting that Namajunas is undefeated in fights where she finds the back, and Maverick – who tends to turtle to her base in scrambles – has had her back taken by a handful of fighters in the octagon. As someone who had high hopes for Maverick early, I sincerely hope that she proves my analysis wrong here. However, I have a hard time going against Namajunas in this spot. The pick is Namajunas by unanimous decision. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the former strawweight champ, listing Namajunas -245 and Maverick +194 via FanDuel. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 start time, how to watch As the co-main event, Namajunas and Maverick are expected to walk to the cage at approximately midnight ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN and ESPN+.
