JI conference dismisses six new canals' plan

Express Tribune27-01-2025
HYDERABAD:
A water conference, hosted by Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh and presided over by provincial Ameer Kashif Saeed Shaikh, was held at a local hotel in Hyderabad today. The conference was attended by leaders of political, religious, and nationalist parties.
The participants rejected the federal government's plan to construct six new canals on the Indus River, calling it illegal, a violation of the IRSA Act, and a conspiracy to turn Sindh barren.
They criticised the dual standards of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and warned that if the party failed to pass resolutions against such anti-Sindh projects in the Sindh Assembly, National Assembly, and Senate, all political parties would jointly besiege the Chief Minister's House.
In his presidential address, Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh Ameer Kashif Saeed Shaikh alleged that, as in the past, the PPP is facilitating the federal government and institutions in building these canals.
Sindh United Party leader Syed Zain Shah dismissed the federal government's data on water as fake and deceitful. He highlighted that the people in Hyderabad and Karachi were struggling even for drinking water.
Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said water is a basic necessity of life, and the Indus River is Sindh's lifeline. He said: "If new canals are constructed, Sindh will turn into a collective graveyard." He criticized Punjab's bureaucracy for always devising plans to loot Sindh's water. He urged political parties and farmers to continue the struggle against the plan of six canals.
Pakistan Muslim League-Functional Sindh Secretary General Sardar Abdul Rahim stated that Pir Pagara was prepared to go to any extent to protect Sindh's water. Sindh Abadgar Board leader Seyed Nadeem Shah Jamot accused Punjab of planning to cultivate its barren lands at the cost of turning seven million acres of Sindh's land barren.
PTI leader Khawand Bux Jahejo acknowledged that water is a serious issue for Sindh and assured full support to JI's efforts against the plan to build six new canals on Indus River.

Today, as we celebrate the 78th Independence Anniversary of our beloved homeland, I extend heartfelt congratulations to all Pakistanis at home and abroad. This day is a reminder of the courage, unity, and sacrifices that led to the creation of Pakistan. Today, the entire nation pays homage to our founding father, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the workers of the Pakistan Movement for their struggle and sacrifices. We celebrate this Independence Day with a sense of renewed pride and hope. Recently, our nation has reaffirmed its strength, resolve, and unity in the face of external aggression. Our success in Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos is a landmark moment in our history. It was a demonstration of unshakable national will, professional excellence, and united purpose. Faced with unjustified Indian aggression, Pakistan responded with clarity, courage and restraint. The world witnessed a nation that is peace-loving, but fully capable of defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This victory has given our people a sense of renewed confidence. It has lifted the morale of the people, restored faith in our institutions, and enhanced Pakistan's stature on the global stage. Today, the world sees Pakistan as a country that seeks peace but does not bow to coercion. But this moment is about more than military success. It is a reminder of what we can achieve when we are united, focused, and committed to a common goal. Let us now channel this spirit into our economic revival, educational reform, technologicaladvancement, institutional development, and environmental resilience. The same discipline, courage, and clarity that led to our recent success against India can lead us towards victory in eradicating poverty, creating opportunities for our people, and building a just and inclusive society. On this Day, we also express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Their courage and struggle for justice and their right to self-determination remain close to our hearts. Pakistan will continue to extend its unwavering diplomatic, moral, and political support until their right to self-determination is realized. Marka-e-Haq 14th August Youm-e-Azaadi: Message from M. Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

On this Independence Day, we pay tribute to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for his leadership and vision, as well as the workers of the Pakistan Movement for their countless sacrifices to secure an independent homeland for the Muslims of South Asia. Pakistan was founded on the ideals of unity, faith, and discipline, and today we stand proud as a resilient nation of over 250 million people. Over the past 78 years, Pakistan has made significant strides in building a dynamic economy, advancing in science and technology, and contributing meaningfully to global peace and development. From our robust agricultural base to our growing IT exports, from successfully hosting important international events to launching ambitious infrastructure projects, Pakistan is steadily advancing towards a brighter future. Recent months have witnessed the indomitable spirit of Pakistan manifested on both military and diplomatic fronts. Through Operation Marka-e-Haq, our principled, lawful, and resolute response to India's illegal actions achieved a significant moral and political victory. By combining military preparedness with diplomatic acumen and national unity, we have demonstrated to the international community Pakistan'sunwaveringcommitment to defend its sovereignty while upholding global peace. We have reaffirmed that the Kashmir cause remains just, rights of Kashmiri people inalienable, and Pakistan's support unshakable until justice prevails. As we celebrate this Independence Day in Pakistan and across the globe, let us rededicate ourselves to building a stronger, more secure, and prosperous nation. Our greatest strength endures in the unity that forged our nation and in our collective resolve to uphold the principles of democracy, peace, and justice that inspired our beloved homeland's creation. Marka-e-Haq 14th August Youm-e-Azaadi: Message from Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) Chief of Air Staff

On the auspicious occasion of Independence Day of Pakistan, I extend warm greetings to all citizens of Pakistan. Indeed, this day signifies an epoch-making moment in our history, reminding us of the determined struggle and supreme sacrifices of our forefathers for a separate homeland. No doubt, in their quest for freedom, the Muslims of the sub-continent stood united under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah; bravely facing the daunting challenges that came their way, and eventually achieved an independent state. While celebrating our Independence Day, we salute our illustrious forefathers and express them a debt of gratitude for their supreme sacrifices. This year 14th August is all the more significant, as the aggressor yet again challenged the very existence of a peaceful country, little knowing about our indomitable will to fight. Alhamdulillah, in a remarkable show of unity, the people of Pakistan and its Armed Forces took up the gauntlet and routed the enemy. Certainly, this resounding success was the outcome of unified approach by all elements of national power and above all Allah's special blessings. Undoubtedly, the exemplary tri-service jointness played a pivotal role in Marka-e-Haq Bunyan-um-Marsoos, inflicting a crushing and decisive punch on the adversary, which not only ensured Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity but also stunned the entire world. Let me share that for the first time in history, PAF conducted Full Spectrum Operations in a conflict, which was the outcome of excellent planning and well-orchestrated employment of Multi-Domain Warfare Capabilities; acquired in recent years on the strength of our aggressive modernisation and indigenization drive. I am proud that PAF once again upheld the glorious legacy of fighting the outnumbered and remained 'Second to None'. I assure you that with the support of the brave people of Pakistan, PAF in synergy with Sister Services is fully prepared to thwart the nefarious designs of any adversary. On this special occasion, we pay rich tribute to Shuhada of Marka-e-Haq for their ultimate sacrifice for honour of Pakistan. My Dear Countrymen! We, in PAF, are well-cognizant that eternal vigilance is the price of freedom and will continue to defend the aerial frontiers of our motherland at any cost for the peace-loving people of Pakistan. Indeed, we are a resolute, resilient and forward-looking nation gifted with an immense potential to do miracles and Insha Allah, will continue to uphold Quaid's vision to make Pakistan a stronger and impregnable state. On this happy day, we also acknowledge the sacrifices of our Kashmiri brethren who have been fighting against Indian Occupation for over seven decades and renew our pledge to continue their moral, political and diplomatic support in their just struggle for self-determination. May Allah Almighty grant us strength and guide our efforts to defend our motherland in a manner befitting the Nation's faith and pride in the Armed Forces. (Aameen)! Pakistan Air Force Zindabad!
