Super Bowl champion Mekhi Becton's mother seeks kidney transplant
In a social media post, the Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman pleaded for support amid his mother, Semone's, search for a kidney.
"PSA: My Mom needs a kidney!!!! If anyone can help, please please please let me know!!!!,'" Becton wrote on X on Wednesday.
Becton did not offer details on the specific issue his mother isfacing, but he noted her blood type: "Blood type B+," the NFL star wrote in a follow-up post.
Some fans with apparent corresponding blood types replied to Becton's plea and offered a kidney.
Betcon added that he was waiting for the latest information from his "mom and doctors."
"Waiting on more updates from my mom and doctors! Will keep yall all updated appreciate all of yall and the support!!" he wrote on social media.
The New York Jets drafted Becton in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Becton's mother spoke to the New York Post after her son landed with the team. She said she's always been Becton's biggest supporter, even when he was just a young flag football player.
"Although it was only flag football, I remember him going out and being scared that he was going to get hit," Semone said of her son, who started playing at age 4. "But I've always been excited to see him play."
Becton agreed to a two-year deal with the Chargers last month.

Will injured Browns QB Shedeur Sanders play against the Eagles?
The Shedeur Sanders show might not come to Lincoln Financial Field, after all. Sanders, the much-discussed Cleveland Browns' rookie quarterback, is 'unlikely' to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Ian Rapoport. Sanders suffered an oblique strain on Wednesday during warmups ahead of the first of two joint practices with the Eagles at the NovaCare Complex. He will not practice Thursday. Sanders is the latest injured Browns quarterback. Kenny Pickett, who the Eagles traded this offseason, is dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of team drills on Wednesday. Dillon Gabriel, the third-round rookie out of Oregon, is also dealing with a hamstring issue. Joe Flacco, the 40-year-old veteran, is healthy. So is Tyler Huntley, who the Browns signed last week to account for the injuries to Pickett and Gabriel. Sanders was expected to be a must-watch in Saturday's preseason game. The former Colorado star and son of Deion Sanders experienced an NFL draft freefall in April. Some considered Sanders to be a first-round prospect; he was selected No. 144 overall in the fifth round. Sanders looked good, though, in his first preseason action. The 2024 All-American completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers. We'll see if Sanders — or Pickett and Gabriel, for that matter — suits up on Saturday.

Shedeur Sanders' injury is a huge setback for him moving up Browns' depth chart
Last week, Shedeur Sanders got an opportunity he could not have expected. Due to injuries and the Cleveland Browns' desire to not overextend Joe Flacco in the preseason, he got to start the teams' first preseason game. That announcement came before he had ever taken a snap with the first-team offense. It was fortunate. And Sanders played well, with more than two million people watching on NFL Network. He looked sharp despite a difficult situation. He threw two excellent touchdown passes. Nike tweeted out an ad with him celebrating one of the scores. He was the talk of the NFL world. And then the fortune swung the other way. Sanders suffered an oblique injury during warmups before a joint practice against the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday. He didn't practice Wednesday, won't practice Thursday and won't play in Friday's preseason game, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Sanders is considered day to day, which isn't bad news. But Sanders doesn't have days to waste. Shedeur Sanders missing time is a major blow Sanders' problem, even after playing well in last week's preseason game, is that he started at the bottom of the depth chart. Sanders had been fourth in the Browns' pecking order all offseason and then to start camp. Injuries helped him get a temporary boost, but there was no indication that he had permanently moved ahead of Pickett, Gabriel and definitely not Flacco, the presumed Week 1 starter. But Sanders could have made a case to be higher than fourth before the season started, if he played in the final two preseason games like he did the first one. It was hard to not wonder if Sanders should begin the season as high as second on the depth chart, based on how he played. Many of his supporters would argue he should be even higher, though that has always been unrealistic. The Browns have just two preseason games remaining. Sanders won't play in one of them. Oblique injuries can linger so there's no guarantee he'll be ready by the final preseason game on Aug. 23, or that Sanders would be healthy enough to play his best. It's possible we've seen the last of Sanders in game action until ... well, who knows when. Sanders' opportunities running out That first preseason performance happened and the highlights from that performance won't be forgotten. But for a player who already had limited reps in practice, a little more than a half of preseason football probably won't be enough to trust him to start regular-season games early on. And there aren't many other opportunities ahead. Teams start focusing on the regular season as soon as they can, and that doesn't include normal practice reps for a fifth-round rookie quarterback. He could have some practice squad reps but that only goes so far. The Browns will have to figure out what to do at quarterback. Keeping four on the active roster is unconventional but would make sense for the Browns this season, with two drafted rookie quarterbacks along with two veterans. The team will need to figure out the order of those four quarterbacks, and at least Sanders has played some in the preseason. Pickett and Gabriel didn't play last week, though both practiced against the Eagles on Wednesday. It's not an easy evaluation. Sanders' chances of playing well in the final two preseason games and perhaps forcing his way up the depth chart were cut in half, at least, with Wednesday's injury. It's not impossible for Sanders to carve out a path for him to start games this season as a rookie. But it got a lot tougher.

Lane Johnson confirms surgery for Eagles guard Landon Dickerson
It was another hot day at training camp practice. The Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Cleveland Browns for the first of two joint practice sessions. Former Eagles returned to the Nova Care Complex and exchanged pleasantries before the session. Kevin Patullo spoke with the media before the workout. Several players talked to the media afterwards. Lane Johnson was the second. He revealed his teammate Landon Dckerson underwent a medical procedure to repair the damage done to Philadelphia's most talked-about meniscus. The news was later confirmed. Everyone is thankful his issue wasn't more serious. The countdown is on. At the time of this story's release, 22 days separate us from Philadelphia's Week 1 opener vs. the Dallas Cowboys. Let's hope previous theories are correct and Landon Dickerson returns to the field.
