Janel Parrish and Michael Naizu star in Bound For Glory, an indie romance drama about identity and generational expectations in a mixed-race relationship.
Actors Janel Parrish and Michael Naizu are set to lead Bound For Glory, an upcoming indie romance drama that explores identity, generational expectations, and emotional conflict within a mixed-race relationship. The film reunites the duo after their 2021 collaboration in Christmas Is Canceled.
Directed by Michael Naizu alongside his brother John Wilcox, the film draws heavily from Naizu's real-life experiences as a Chinese American navigating the often unpredictable entertainment industry. According to the official synopsis, the story centres on a working-class, mixed-race couple grappling with crisis, codependency, and the pressure of familial and societal expectations.
Production is scheduled to begin this fall across locations in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. The project also has the support of Gold House, a nonprofit collective that promotes Asian Pacific creatives and leaders in various industries.
Speaking about her involvement, Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish expressed her excitement about working with Naizu again. 'So happy to be working with Michael Naizu again, this time to tell his beautiful and compelling story," she said. 'It means so much to collaborate with AAPI storytellers and help bring narratives to life that reflect who we are and why representation matters."
Naizu, who is not only starring in but also co-directing the film, shared the personal nature of the story. 'This is a story I've been trying to tell my whole life. It's deeply personal, rooted in my experience navigating identity and purpose in an industry that is extremely competitive and volatile," he said.
He also noted the emotional value of working with those close to him on this project. 'To now be making this film with my brother John, my childhood best friend Derik, and Janel Parrish — someone I've admired for years — it feels like everything is coming full circle."
He concluded, 'To have Bound For Glory backed by a trailblazing organization like Gold House is incredibly meaningful. I honestly can't wait to get cameras up and bring this story to life."

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 Plot Revealed: Mihir-Tulsi's Happy Marriage Faces New Storm

Amar Upadhyay shares how Mihir and Tulsi will tackle the younger generation in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, premiering tonight. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 premieres tonight (July 29) at 10:30 pm, and anticipation is sky-high as Smriti Irani returns as Tulsi Virani. Alongside her, Amar Upadhyay will reprise his iconic role of Mihir Virani. As fans gear up for the reboot of one of Indian television's most iconic soaps, Amar has now revealed intriguing details about the plot. In a recent interview with Indian Express, Amar shared that while Mihir's character has evolved, his bond with Tulsi remains intact. 'Mihir is a bit changed in the way he moves around. He is a big businessman now. In season 1, he had done his MBA and returned to India to join his father's business. Now he is a very big businessman, busy exploring new business ideas," he explained. The actor also hinted at a conflict with the younger generation in the family. 'Smriti and my relation is just the way it was. The new kids come in, and with them, we have some differences, which is a different track altogether," Amar added. The new generation of the Virani family includes characters played by Rohit Suchanti, Aman Gandhi, and Shagun Sharma. According to Amar, Mihir's success as a businessman brings an added dimension to the show's storyline. While the bond between Tulsi and Mihir remains strong, the reboot will focus on the clash of values and perspectives between the older and younger generations—a theme likely to resonate with today's audience. Amar Upadhyay also revealed that Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 will be a finite series, expected to run for 10 to 12 months. This marks a shift from the original version, which ran for over eight years and became a cultural phenomenon. The reboot also stars Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, Shakti Anand, and several new faces, promising a blend of nostalgia and fresh drama. With Ekta Kapoor at the helm once again, the makers aim to recreate the same magic with a modern twist. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway Were 15 Minutes Away From Manhattan Tower Where Gunman Killed 4

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 near a deadly mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan. Gunman Shane Tamura killed four before dying by suicide. Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were shooting scenes for The Devil Wears Prada 2 just 15 minutes away from the Midtown Manhattan skyscraper where a deadly mass shooting took place on Monday. The cast was working at 1221 Avenue of the Americas and had wrapped filming at least three hours before gunman Shane Devon Tamura entered 345 Park Avenue, opened fire, and killed four people before dying by suicide. Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs are filming their upcoming comedy drama The Devil Wears Prada 2. As Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway reprise their iconic roles in the second instalment of the movie, directed by David Frankel, they have already been spotted shooting on location in New York City. The horror unfolded just a few blocks away. A man who killed four people, then committed suicide in a New York skyscraper, may have been targeting the NFL offices there because he blamed the American football league for brain injuries he said he suffered, Mayor Eric Adams said on Tuesday. The revelation that the killer, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, carried a note referring to the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), offered the first possible motive for the shootings that brought central Manhattan to a standstill. The attacker shot a police officer outside the tower on Park Avenue, then opened fire in the lobby, before trying to head up to the National Football League's offices, armed with a semi-automatic rifle. 'The note said that he felt he had CTE, a known brain injury for those who participated in contact sports. He appeared to have blamed the NFL for his injury," Adams told CBS News. Tamura had never actually played for the professional league but was reportedly a high school football standout in California. The note asked that his brain be examined for CTE damage, The New York Times reported. The bloodshed sparked a massive police response in the heart of the city which is not far from where a disgruntled gunman had shot and killed the CEO of UnitedHealthcare in broad daylight last December. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Tamura had a history of mental health issues. President Donald Trump on Tuesday called the mass shooting a 'senseless act of violence" carried out by a 'lunatic". view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 21:37 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
