Janel Parrish and Michael Naizu star in Bound For Glory, an indie romance drama about identity and generational expectations in a mixed-race relationship.
Actors Janel Parrish and Michael Naizu are set to lead Bound For Glory, an upcoming indie romance drama that explores identity, generational expectations, and emotional conflict within a mixed-race relationship. The film reunites the duo after their 2021 collaboration in Christmas Is Canceled.
Directed by Michael Naizu alongside his brother John Wilcox, the film draws heavily from Naizu's real-life experiences as a Chinese American navigating the often unpredictable entertainment industry. According to the official synopsis, the story centres on a working-class, mixed-race couple grappling with crisis, codependency, and the pressure of familial and societal expectations.
Production is scheduled to begin this fall across locations in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. The project also has the support of Gold House, a nonprofit collective that promotes Asian Pacific creatives and leaders in various industries.
Speaking about her involvement, Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish expressed her excitement about working with Naizu again. 'So happy to be working with Michael Naizu again, this time to tell his beautiful and compelling story," she said. 'It means so much to collaborate with AAPI storytellers and help bring narratives to life that reflect who we are and why representation matters."
Naizu, who is not only starring in but also co-directing the film, shared the personal nature of the story. 'This is a story I've been trying to tell my whole life. It's deeply personal, rooted in my experience navigating identity and purpose in an industry that is extremely competitive and volatile," he said.
He also noted the emotional value of working with those close to him on this project. 'To now be making this film with my brother John, my childhood best friend Derik, and Janel Parrish — someone I've admired for years — it feels like everything is coming full circle."
He concluded, 'To have Bound For Glory backed by a trailblazing organization like Gold House is incredibly meaningful. I honestly can't wait to get cameras up and bring this story to life."

Nitesh Tiwari Spent 10 Years On Ramayana Script, Studied Yoga Shastra And Consulted Pandits: Report

Nitesh Tiwari spent a decade researching and scripting his epic Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Nitesh Tiwari, known for films like Dangal and Chhichhore, has been quietly working for ten years on his epic retelling of the Ramayana. Every line, scene and dialogue has been meticulously crafted since 2015. According to a report in TOI, Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra spent years studying the Vashisht Yoga Shastras and consulting with pandits to weave spiritual wisdom into a story that speaks to today. The idea is to make the emotional journey of Ram relatable while honouring its ancient roots. The cast is star-studded. Ranbir Kapoor takes on Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash is Ravana, Ravi Dubey becomes Lakshman, and Sunny Deol portrays Hanuman. Supporting cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil and Sheeba Chadha. Their vision was unveiled in a teaser that paired glimpses of Ranbir and Yash with a powerful score by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman — marking what may be Indian cinema's most ambitious East-meets-West collaboration. Filming began only after the script felt ready. Tech rehearsals were held in Los Angeles in 2024, while elaborate sets—over a dozen of them—were built back in India. Many have now been dismantled to make way for post‑production. The film also brings in co-director Ravi Udyawar and VFX by DNEG, the Oscar‑winning studio behind Inception and Interstellar. Tiwari's Ramayana will arrive in two parts—first in Diwali 2026 and the second in Diwali 2027. The first instalment will explore Ram and Sita's early lives, their exile and Hanuman's entry. The second will focus on Ravana and the epic final battle. Ranbir Kapoor has locked Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 for Ramayana Part 1 and Ramayana Part 2. The film's first poster has been released along with the release date. Ranbir plays the role of Lord Ram. The two-part films are directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The release date was confirmed by Prime Focus Studios' Namit Malhotra. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Ravi Shastri Cracks Everyone Up With Wholesome Jab At Farokh Engineer; Nasser Hussain Joins In: WATCH

Curated By : Siddarth Sriram Last Updated: July 23, 2025, 20:30 IST Ravi Shastri with Farokh Engineer (PTI Photo) Cricket often transcends the boundary ropes, and the first day of the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford in Manchester was a perfect example. While the on-field action drew attention, it was a legendary off-field presence—Farokh Engineer—that truly lit up the day. Old Trafford witnessed a historic moment as Engineer, the iconic Indian wicketkeeper and Lancashire stalwart, became the first Indian cricketer to have a stand named after him in England. His name now adorns a stand at the ground alongside another celebrating West Indies legend Sir Clive Lloyd—marking a proud moment for Indian cricket history. Now 87 years old and recently recovered from aortic valve replacement surgery in June, Engineer has returned to his routine and made a high-profile appearance as a VIP guest during the ongoing Lord's Test. His presence at Old Trafford during the Manchester Test added a nostalgic layer to the day's events. As the broadcast camera caught Engineer in the stands on Day 1, the commentary box lit up with warmth and humor. Ravi Shastri, spotting the former gloveman on screen, couldn't resist sharing a fond and cheeky tribute. 'Farokh (Engineer). A real pin-up boy in the '60s and '70s. Hugely popular, and he's not changed over the years. A great storyteller and a voracious eater even now. At lunch, his plate will be full," Shastri quipped, clearly speaking with nothing but affection and admiration. Not one to miss a beat, Nasser Hussain jumped in with a perfectly timed joke that sent the commentary team into laughter. 'He'll be just behind you in that all-day buffet queue, Ravi," Hussain said, poking fun at Shastri's own famously hearty appetite. It was a moment of levity and camaraderie—reminiscent of the spirit that has made cricket more than just a game for fans around the world. India In Control During Initial Stages of Fourth Test Back on the pitch, India made a solid start to the fourth Test. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul safely negotiated a probing spell from Chris Woakes, guiding India to 78 without loss at lunch on a cloudy Wednesday morning. Despite the fact that no team has ever won at Old Trafford after choosing to bowl first, England captain Ben Stokes opted to send India in on a pitch with early movement. Swipe Left For Next Video View all The strategy seemed to pay off shortly after the lunch break as both Indian openers were dismissed in quick succession, allowing Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan to take center stage. With the momentum in India's favor early on, the middle-order pair will aim to consolidate and build on the platform laid by the openers.
