WNBA Crowns Angel Reese After Her Historic Game
Angel Reese, the star forward in her second WNBA season with the Chicago Sky, struggled with her shooting last season. But lately, she has shown some increased marksmanship, which has made her a significantly better player.

On Saturday, she guided the Sky to their fourth victory in their last seven games. They defeated the Minnesota Lynx, 87-81, as Reese shot 8-of-14 from the field and scored 19 points, to go along with 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
That performance made her only the second player in WNBA history to achieve at least 40 double-doubles in her first two seasons. The other to do so is veteran Connecticut Sun center Tina Charles.
As a rookie in 2024, Reese shot 39.1% from the field and averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds a game. So far this year, she has improved her shooting accuracy to 43.4%, and her free throw accuracy has increased from 73.6% last season to 78.6% this season.

She was recently named an All-Star for the second year in a row, and she will be on Napheesa Collier's squad, which will take on Caitlin Clark's squad next weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Reese and Clark have a budding rivalry that started in 2023 when Reese's LSU Tigers defeated Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes for the women's NCAA championship. Clark got her revenge a year later in the Elite Eight round of the tournament.
Chicago is now 7-13 and will host Minnesota again on Monday and the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday before the All-Star game takes place.

Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber is slated to make a rehab start on Tuesday
CHICAGO (AP) — Cleveland Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber is slated to make a rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday. Bieber is coming back from Tommy John surgery in April 2024. He had a setback when he experienced soreness during a bullpen session on June 3. The 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner had a bullpen session in Cleveland on Sunday. Bieber made two starts for the Guardians last year, going 2-0 and striking out 20 in 12 scoreless innings. The right-hander agreed to a $14 million, one-year contract in December that includes a $16 million player option for 2026. Trevor Stephan, another right-hander who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, was hit hard in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Columbus on Sunday. He recorded one out and was charged with four runs and two hits. The Guardians also said infielder Gabriel Arias is expected to start running the bases in the next few days. Arias is coming back from a sprained left ankle. Outfielder Chase DeLauter, one of the team's top prospects, was out of the Columbus lineup again on Sunday. He has been playing through some right wrist soreness, and he had an uptick in symptoms Saturday. The Guardians said the plan is to have DeLauter evaluated to determine a plan for him moving forward. ___ AP baseball:
