Doubting Wife's 'Character', UP Man Fed 2-Yr-Old Son Pesticide, Flung Him On Street From Rooftop
A heart-wrenching crime was witnessed in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri when a father fed fed pesticide to his two-year-old son and then killed him by throwing him from the roof. Reason? The man 'doubted his wife's character" and did not believe the child was his own. The accused, reportedly, flung the toddler with such force that he fell on the road, broke his neck and died on the spot.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Chitaua village, located in the Bichhwan police station area of Mainpuri. The police have arrested the accused.
What 'Provoked' The Man To Throw 2-Year-Old?
According to Amar Ujala, accused Raj Bahadur was arguing with his wife Yamunavati around 2 pm on Thursday. The argument was so heated that it 'frightened" the wife, who then went out of the house, and began washing clothes in the veranda.
Raj Bahadur locked the gate from inside and climbed onto the roof, where his two-year-old son Lalit was playing. He grabbed Lalit and started threatening to throw him off the terrace.
Amid the threats, Bahadur reportedly forced the child to drink the pesticide stored on the terrace, and then threw the two-year-old off the roof. Upon impact with the ground, his neck broke. The family and villagers rushed the child to the district hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead.
After Throwing The Child, Accused Sat With Knife
After the declaration of two-year-old's death, Raj Bahadur ran onto the roof once again. This time he reportedly grabbed a knife and threatened to harm himself if anyone approached. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene.
The officers, however, did not make haste due to Bahadur's 'impulsive' behaviour and threats.
Accused 'Lured Down With Tobacco'
As unusual as the case could get, the accused had to be 'lured' down. According to Amar Ujala, the villagers persuaded him to come downstairs with a promise to 'buy tobacco worth Rs 50 and give him to chew".
Meanwhile, the police pretended to leave the spot, assuring the accused that they wouldn't arrest him. Convinced, Raj Bahadur unlocked the gate and came down. At that moment, the police, with the assistance of the villagers, apprehended him.
Accused Earlier Attacked Wife With Sickle
The report quoted Raj Bahadur's sister, Laxmi, as saying that her brother married Yamunavati from UP's Etah seven years ago. The couple has two sons, Ankush and Lalit.
Laxmi revealed that Raj Bahadur is addicted to alcohol and has a peculiar temperament. He frequently doubted Yamunavati's fidelity, insisting that Lalit was not his child and accusing her of having an affair with a family member.
This was not the first instance of such behavior from Raj Bahadur; he had previously attacked Yamunavati with a sickle. There was also an incident where, when the police came to arrest him, he started throwing bricks from the roof.
How Thursday Fight Between Husband-Wife Began
The altercation on Thursday began when Raj Bahadur did not get money for alcohol. Three days earlier, he had called his wife back from her maternal home.
On Thursday, he was heading out to spray pesticides in the field and asked his wife for money to buy alcohol. When she declined, a fight ensued between the couple over this issue.
Yamunavati expressed her frustration over her husband's accusations and mistreatment, which led her to spend more time at her mother's house rather than her in-laws'.
She intends to seek justice for her son's murder by filing a legal case against her husband. Meanwhile, the police have begun their investigation into the matter.

Man Sends Parcel Bomb In Speaker To Husband Of Woman He Loved; Arrested
Police say gelatin sticks were used as the main explosive, and the speaker's casing would have acted as deadly shrapnel on detonation. A 20-year-old electrician in Chhattisgarh, obsessed with a married woman, allegedly tried to kill her husband by sending him a parcel bomb disguised as a speaker gift, police said on Sunday. The accused, Vinay Verma, was reportedly infatuated with the woman since her college days. After she married Afsar Khan a few months ago, Verma allegedly conspired to kill Khan. He assembled an improvised explosive device (IED) using online tutorials, and hid it inside a brand-new music system speaker. According to police, the IED was wired to explode as soon as it was plugged in. His Google search history included disturbing queries like: 'how to kill a person using a bomb without being caught by police." The case came to light when a suspicious, gift-wrapped parcel, falsely labelled with an India Post logo, was delivered to Khan's shop in Manpur village under Gandai police limits a few days ago. Khan found it odd and immediately informed police. A bomb squad arrived and discovered a 2-kg IED hidden inside the speaker. 'Technical analysis showed the IED was designed to detonate upon being plugged into a power source. The current would reach a detonator connected to the speaker's wiring, triggering the explosion," said Superintendent of Police Lakshya Sharma. Police say gelatin sticks were used as the main explosive, and the speaker's casing would have acted as deadly shrapnel on detonation. With Verma's arrest, the police also uncovered an illegal explosives smuggling racket, used to procure the materials. In total, seven people have been arrested, including Parmeshwar Verma (25), Gopal Verma (22), Ghasiram Verma (46), Dilip Dhimar (38), Gopal Khelwar, and Khilesh Verma (19). Police investigations revealed that the explosives had been siphoned off from a stone quarry in Durg district. Parmeshwar allegedly paid Rs 6,000 to buy gelatin rods from Gopal and Dilip. Ghasiram delivered the materials, while Khilesh prepared the fake India Post label. Verma and Gopal delivered the parcel. Raids at the homes of Gopal and Dilip led to the seizure of 60 gelatin sticks and two detonators. Police said the quarry operator in Patharia from where the materials were stolen will also be questioned. 'This action not only thwarted a planned murder but also exposed a network of illegal explosive supply in the region," SP Sharma said. He added that further investigation is ongoing, and strict legal action will be taken against all involved. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Digital arrest: Retired RBI employee duped of Rs 49 lakh in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: An 80-year-old retired Reserve Bank of India (RBI) employee lost Rs 49 lakh in a digital arrest fraud after fraudsters posed as officers of the Mumbai crime police. According to his complaint, on August 6, he received a call where the caller claimed that an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) case had been filed against him in the Mumbai High Court and that an arrest warrant had been issued. He was then connected to individuals identifying themselves as Inspector Sandeep Rao from the Mumbai Cyber Crime Department and Inspector Officer Vijay Khanna, IPS. The accused asked him to share his Aadhaar card, after which they alleged his ID was linked to an international money laundering case. They cited the example of Naresh Goel, arrested in 2023 with 247 cases of money laundering, and claimed that his Aadhaar details were found in similar suspicious transactions. The victim received two documents via WhatsApp — an acknowledgement letter from the Financial Department, Mumbai Crime Branch and CBI, and an arrest order on Directorate of Enforcement letterhead carrying his details. The accused told him his bank accounts needed to be verified and could be frozen. Under pressure, he was coerced into transferring money to what was claimed to be an RBI AML Department account for verification. Following their instructions through internet banking, he ended up transferring a total of Rs 49 lakh. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered.
