
UAE's GDP reach AED 1,776 billion in 2024 with four per cent growth, non-oil sectors now account for 75,5 per cent of the national economy
The UAE's real gross domestic product (GDP) reached AED 1,776 billion in 2024, marking a 4 per cent increase compared to that of 2023.Hospitality sector, encompassing hotels and restaurants, rose by 5.7 per cent. This growth was primarily driven by the exceptional performance of UAE airports, which handled 147.8 million passengers—an increase of approximately 10 per cent. Non-oil GDP grew by 5 per cent, totaling AED 1,342 billion, while oil-related activities contributed AED 434 billion to the overall economy. H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, emphasized that the latest GDP figures released by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC) reflect a renewed and positive momentum in the national economy. They further underscore the new milestones achieved by the UAE in economic diversification and competitiveness, guided by the vision and directives of its wise leadership. With non-oil sectors accounting for 75,5 per cent of the UAE's GDP by the end of last year, H.E. emphasized that these indicators reflect the sustained success of the nation's economic strategies, which are driving the transition toward an innovative, knowledge-based, and sustainable economic model aligned with global trends and emerging technologies.
H.E. said: 'Under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and guidance from H.H. The transport and storage sector emerged as the fastest-growing contributor to GDP in 2024, recording a 9,6 per cent year-over-year growth. This growth was primarily driven by the exceptional performance of UAE airports, which handled 147,8 million passengers—an increase of approximately 10 per cent.
The building and construction sector followed with an 8,4 per cent growth rate, supported by substantial investments in urban infrastructure. Financial and insurance activities expanded by 7 per cent, while the hospitality sector, encompassing hotels and restaurants, rose by 5,7 per cent. Meanwhile, the real estate sector recorded a 4,8 per cent growth.
With regard to non-oil economic activities that contributed most to the GDP, the trade sector contributed 16,8 per cent, the manufacturing sector accounted for 13,5 per cent, and financial and insurance activities contributed 13,2 per cent. Construction and building contributed 11,7 per cent, while real estate activities accounted for 7,8 per cent of the non-oil GDP.

Mohammed bin Rashid launches Phase 2 of Zero Bureaucracy Pgme.
Advancing Zero Bureaucracy During an official event in Dubai, His Highness announced the launch of the second phase of the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme. He highlighted that the first phase had already succeeded in reducing service delivery times by more than 70%, eliminating over 4,000 unnecessary procedures, and saving more than 12 million hours for users. The programme is part of a national effort to provide faster, more impactful government services. Focusing on digital transformation In this next phase, the focus will shift toward eliminating digital bureaucracy. Sheikh Mohammed praised the efforts of over 30 government entities and 690 task teams who streamlined procedures and improved service delivery. He stressed that the UAE aims to achieve a government system free of complexity and long waits, one that delivers real impact in people's lives. National collaboration for leadership in services The event brought together more than 200 senior officials, including ministers and directors general from federal entities. The programme serves as a unifying national framework for all ministries and government bodies, with a strategic goal of positioning the UAE as a global leader in government service excellence. Success of phase one Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Al Gergawi outlined the significant results achieved in the first phase. These included the removal of over 4,000 unnecessary procedures, the elimination of 1,600 redundant requirements, and a total savings of 12 million customer hours annually. These efforts also saved the government and its customers an estimated AED 1.12 billion each year. Top-performing entities were awarded a total of AED 7 million in recognition of their efforts. Expanding the impact in phase two The second phase will aim to reduce more unnecessary procedures and digitize services further by eliminating digital bureaucracy. It will focus on ensuring round-the-clock functionality of digital platforms, modernizing digital systems, enhancing integration across government entities, and incorporating artificial intelligence to optimize the user experience. Recognition of the Ministry of Justice His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, shared the Ministry's journey toward reducing bureaucracy, which earned it the top award for Best Government Team. He highlighted initiatives that helped the Ministry excel in simplifying its services and procedures. Roadmap for the future Mohammed bin Taliah, Chief of Government Services in the UAE Government, explained that Phase Two will enhance intergovernmental cooperation, improve data sharing, and promote innovative joint solutions. It will also adopt leading global business practices to further streamline operations. Engagement with the private sector The event concluded with an interactive session titled "Zero Bureaucracy and the Private Sector."
