O'Shea signs new five-year contract at Town
Ipswich Town defender Dara O'Shea has signed a new five-year contract.
Following a £12m switch from Burnley last summer, the 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international was one of the team's most consistent performers in a Premier League relegation campaign.

As a result, Leeds, Wolves and former employers Burnley were all credited with interest in giving the centre-back a quick return to the top flight, something he did after going down with both West Brom and Burnley.
O'Shea said recently he was 'fully committed' to Ipswich though and has now penned fresh terms until 2030, his previous deal having been due to expire in 2029. That makes him the longest contracted player at the club.
"I'm really happy and very proud to have signed a new contract at Ipswich Town,' he told the club website.
'We learned a lot last season and that will be really important for us going forward. I'm glad to have signed this new contract and I am ready to get to work again in pre-season.

'There are good characters and good human beings at this club and I want to help deliver success again and help the club get back into the Premier League. This is a massive club but it can continue to grow and I'm excited."
Blues boss Kieran McKenna, who hinted at O'Shea being the club's next captain in the making back in April, said: 'We're delighted Dara has further committed his future to the club.
'He has been an important figure for us since his arrival last summer, putting in consistently good performances on the pitch while also bringing character and leadership to the group off it.

'He has real experience, despite still being relatively young for a central defender, and we believe he has the ability to further improve in the years to come.
'We're excited to now be working with him for an extended period as we continue to prepare for the season ahead.'

Australian teen Gout beats his own 200m national record
Australian teenage sprinter Gout Gout crushed the 200 metres field in his first senior race abroad, bettering his own national record by two hundredths of a second to finish in 20.02 seconds at the Ostrava Golden Spike. The 17-year-old ran a textbook race in his European debut at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, crossing the line 0.17sec ahead of Cuban Reynier Mena while Briton Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (20.60) was third. "I knew Mena would come hard at me the first 100 but I was confident I'd be close enough to come home strongly in the second part of the race which is of course my stronger part. "I felt calm but strong as I came off the turn and was confident I'd be strong enough to get the win. Another national record! Pretty happy with that, it's not a bad first up in Europe!" Gout has drawn comparisons to Jamaican great Usain Bolt and he made headlines in December when he broke Peter Norman's national record that had stood for 56 years in 20.04. The Ipswich, Queensland, teenager was confirmed in April for Australia's team for the World Championships in Tokyo in September. Meanwhile 18-year-old Cameron Myers delivered a performance of a lifetime in the men's 1500m, clocking 3:29.80 to smash his own Australian under-20 record by nearly three seconds. Finishing fourth in the hotly contested race, the performance moves Myers to third on the Australian all-time list, just 0.39 shy of Oliver Hoare's record of 3:29.41 set in 2023. He said: "My fastest races the last two years have been miles. It's a coincidence but it's really good to have a fast 1500m and I'm really pleased to get a PB and my first time under 3:30."

Lyon relegated to French soccer's second tier amid ongoing financial problems
Seven-time French champion Lyon was relegated to the second tier on Tuesday because of ongoing financial irregularities. The decision followed an audit of the club's finances by the French league's soccer watchdog, known as DNCG. French sports daily L'Equipe estimated Lyon's current debt at 175 million euros ($203 million). Lyon was expected to appeal the decision. The decision comes after the DNCG had already provisionally relegated Lyon to Ligue 2 in November, with the club reporting at the time that it had more than 500 million euros ($581 million) of debt. A transfer ban was also imposed in the January transfer window. Lyon is owned by American businessman John Textor, who has stakes in Brazil's Botafogo and Premier League team Crystal Palace. Textor was present for the hearing in Paris on Tuesday. He had been optimistic it would be successful for Lyon, which has been trying to balance the books. On Monday, Premier League side Crystal Palace announced that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson signed 'a legally binding contract' to buy Textor's shares. Textor has a 43% stake in the London club. Reports have placed the price between $220 million and $260 million. Two weeks ago, Lyon received a much-needed cash injection by selling coveted playmaker Rayan Cherki for 36 million euros. But the club has been under growing pressure. Two years ago, the DNCG decided to monitor the club's transfer activities, saying its moves on the market would be limited under 'a framework for wage costs and transfer indemnities.' Lyon won its seven league titles from 2002-08 and reached the Champions League semifinals in 2020. Lyon narrowly lost to Manchester United in the Europa League quarterfinals and missed out on a cash windfall when it failed to qualify for next season's Champions League after finishing sixth in Ligue 1.
