UT set to start maintenance & repair of cycle tracks in Chandigarh
1 2 Chandigarh: The UT engineering department is set to undertake the maintenance and repair of the cycle tracks in various sectors, including Dakshin Marg, Sectors 19, 27, 28, 45, 46, and various other roads. The department will spend around Rs 10 lakh on the work. Another Rs 21 lakh will be spent on the recarpeting of cycle tracks in Sector 26. The condition of the tracks has worsened over the years. In some places, bollards have been placed on the cycle tracks. Cyclists have to stop, pick up their cycles over these bollards, and then move ahead. In many places, there are trees right in the middle of the tracks, and in other places, there are manholes. Many stretches of the cycle tracks are in darkness during the night as streetlights are not working. At night, many areas of the cycle track are not used because they are not lit effectively. In such places, either there are no streetlights or they aren't working. This also raises security and safety concerns. There are more than 200 km of dedicated cycle tracks in the city, and the engineering department is adding more cycle tracks to more areas of the city. The department is undertaking work to construct dedicated cycle tracks on Purv Marg along the railway line side from junction 53 to Sector 47 light point, Kailbari light point Sector 31C side, and along V-3 roads in Sector 48-D, 49-C, 49-D, and Sector 50-C to the UT boundary. 10K+ open wells to be covered under CAMPA plan to protect wild animals
Raipur: The Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), Chhattisgarh, has issued a circular to all Chief Conservators of Forests (CCFs), including those overseeing wildlife and tiger reserves, to cover open wells near forest areas. The move aims to prevent wild animals from accidentally falling into the wells. As per the directive, 40% of the CAMPA Annual Plan of Operations (APO) for 2025–26, allocated for this purpose, will be used to cover over 10,000 open wells across the state. This initiative will significantly improve the safety of animals in vulnerable regions. CEO of CAMPA instructed officials to prepare a detailed report on the proposed work and obtain technical and administrative approval. The CEO also stated that any amount spent beyond the prescribed limit would not be approved. The circular further clarifies that work should not be done on disused wells. Instead, these wells should be filled up with the support of local villagers, without using CAMPA funds. According to the report, 1,068 wells were identified for covering at an estimated cost of Rs 345.22 lakh. In the Surguja forest circle, 258 open wells were marked across five forest divisions: Korea (57), Manendragarh (30), Surguja (57), Jashpur (57), and Sarguja (57). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? In the Raipur circle, 171 open wells were marked in three forest divisions: Gariaband (57), Baloda Bazar (57), and Mahasamund (57). The Kanker circle identified 126 open wells in three divisions: Kanker (57), West Bhanupratappur, and South Kondagaon (12). Additionally, 57 open wells in the Bastar division under the Jagdalpur circle will be covered. The list also includes 57 wells in the Balod division under the Durg circle, 57 in the Kanger Valley National Park, 57 in the Gomarda Sanctuary, and 57 in the Barnawapara Sanctuary. Elaborating on the provision for utilising 40% of the interest amount, a senior forest officer explained that when a company undertakes mining activities, it is required to deposit a certain amount into the CAMPA fund maintained by the central govt. Forty percent of the interest accrued on this deposited amount is earmarked for specific activities such as wildlife safety. An amount of up to Rs 18.43 lakh was approved for each forest division to cover open wells under this initiative. MCG to deploy 300 tractors to clean up trash from Gurgaon's roads
Gurgaon: MCG is planning to deploy 308 tractor trolleys across the city, with 10 units allocated for every ward. The civic body will also acquire earthmovers to collect waste from roads and public places, responding to mounting complaints about indiscriminate dumping. Moreover, MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the authority was planning to establish compressed biogas (CBG) facilities at secondary waste collection sites to start decentralised waste processing. These trolleys will be provided to councillors to use them in maintaining cleanliness in their wards," said an MCG official. The city does not have any agency for doorstep waste collection. A stop-gap arrangement to hire 400 light commercial vehicles for it was planned but could not be executed as many migrant labourers fled the city following the recent police verification drive. The tender process to hire a dedicated agency for doorstep waste collection has been initiated. "There is no contractor assigned by MCG for doorstep waste collection, so we have hired a private contractor, who is charging Rs 100 per floor for waste collection. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How to Ease Knee Pain Without Injections or Side Effects Read More Undo Moreover, no sanitation worker is coming for manual sweeping of roads. So, if these tractor trolleys are assigned to each ward, we will know whom to contact to get waste cleared," said Lalit Suraj Bhola, general secretary of Sector 9A RWA. "Every time we call up MCG to get the roadside waste lifted, they seek time to arrange tractor trolleys. Many times they don't even turn up," he added. Meanwhile, during a special campaign conducted in July, the civic body caught 81 vehicles illegally dumping waste, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 12.3 lakh. In July, MCG teams conducted thorough inspections in sectors 9, 18, 48, 29 and 65, Ghata, Khandsa, etc. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !
