Reducing calorie intake can be made easier with some strategic changes to eating habits, according to fitness coach Josh Bain. In a recent Instagram post, Bain listed simple but effective methods that can help people cut up to 500 calories per day without drastic lifestyle shifts.Bain advised eating with the non-dominant hand to slow down food intake and encourage mindfulness.'Sounds silly, right? But this will SLOW your eating down and help you eat 30 percent less. That could be 150-300 calories shaved off in just one meal,' he said.Brushing teeth earlier sends a psychological signal to stop eating for the day.'Doing this earlier than your bed time routine creates a psychological 'kitchen closed' effect. Watch this be a game changer in eliminating late night snacking! You can easily save 200-600 calories by doing this,' Bain said.Bain highlighted how beverages like coffee, alcohol, and smoothies often go unnoticed in daily calorie tracking.'These sneak up on you. 2-3 coffees a day, could lead to hundreds of calories. Alcohol, creamers, smoothies… they all add up,' he said.To cut down on calories from cooking oil, Bain suggested using alternatives like air fryers or low-calorie sprays.'Opt for a low cal spray instead or get an Air Fryer!' he added.Bain recommended waiting before giving in to food offers and drinking lemon water to assess actual hunger.'Before you say 'yes' to food, wait 15 minutes and have a glass of lemon water first! You're probably satisfied,' he said. The final tip stressed the importance of portion control and eating high-volume, low-calorie foods.'Fill yourself up with the correct foods. You want to fill your body with high volume low calorie foods (celery, cucumber, gherkins, tomatoes, cabbage),' Bain explained.(Disclaimer: This article is based on a user-generated post on Instagram for informational purposes only and not a substitute for professional medical advice. Student suicides: Why parents must tune into teen distress

Student suicides: Why parents must tune into teen distress Neha BhayanaKetaki Desai TNN Jul 28, 2025, 12:44 IST IST With bullying — both online and offline — and academic pressure mounting, young people in the country are more vulnerable than ever Class 12 student Meera Sahni* was casually scrolling through reels after attending online classes during the lockdown when a female classmate added her to an Instagram group chat. What followed was two hours of relentless bullying: the girl shared photos of Sahni with her body parts highlighted, mocking her for being too skinny and flat-chested. Others in the group also commented about how their cigarettes cost more than Sahni's clothes. Sahni tried her best to ignore the comments that kept popping up, but then the classmate posted a picture of Sahni on her Insta page and her 22,000 followers joined in the ridicule. Pushed to the brink, Sahni attempted to take her own life. Fortunately, her parents found her in time and rushed her to the hospital.

Nutritionist Reveals Hidden Dangers Of Mixing Supplements And Medications

Are you unwittingly sabotaging your health by mixing certain supplements and medications? From Omega-3 and aspirin to iron and zinc, some combinations can have unexpected effects on your body. They can interfere with nutrient absorption and increase the risk of side effects. Nutritionist Rashi Chowdhary suggests a few supplement and medication combinations to avoid in order to protect your health. In her Instagram post, she wrote, "You could be taking all the right supplements but still seeing zero results. Why? Because certain nutrients and medications don't play well together." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rashi Chowdhary (@rashichowdhary) Supplement and medication combinations to avoid 1. Omega-3 + Aspirin Both reduce platelet aggregation (i.e., they thin your blood). Together, they can overdo it, increasing your risk of bruising or bleeding, especially if you are already prone. Always check with your doctor before combining. 2. Thyroid Medication + Calcium/Iron Levothyroxine (thyroid hormone) binds to calcium and iron in the gut. This reduces how much medication gets absorbed and messes with your hormone balance. Keep a 4-hour gap between these minerals. 3. Vitamin D with Fat Vitamin D is fat-soluble, meaning it needs dietary fat to be properly absorbed. A small drizzle of ghee, a handful of nuts, or your fattiest meal of the day makes all the difference. 4. Magnesium + B6 Magnesium lowers prostaglandins (PGE2) that cause cramps. B6 helps with your mood by making more of the "happy chemical," GABA. It also enhances cellular absorption of magnesium, making it more effective at calming the nervous system, reducing bloating, and easing PMS. 5. Iron and Zinc These two share the same absorption pathway in the gut (DMT1 transporter). When taken together, they compete, and your body absorbs less of both. Split them up to get full benefits.

Nutritionist Breaks Down Natural Fixes For Acne, Pigmentation And More

Skin issues like acne, pigmentation, dryness and stubborn dark spots are common concerns for many. But what if the solution lies not in expensive creams, but on your plate? Nutritionist Lovneet Batra recently took to Instagram to shed light on how internal health plays a major role in achieving glowing, problem-free skin. In her video, the nutritionist breaks down the connection between diet and skin concerns, offering natural, food-based solutions for everything from hormonal acne to dullness. With simple, everyday ingredients like spearmint, amla and blueberries, Lovneet Batra shares how targeted nutrition can help address the root causes of skin troubles. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovneet Batra (@lovneetb) Here are some common skin concerns and their natural remedies, as suggested by nutritionist Lovneet Batra: 1. Acne-prone skin Add spearmint leaves to your routine. They are naturally rich in anti-androgenic compounds, which help reduce testosterone levels, one of the key culprits behind hormonal acne in women. Just one cup of spearmint tea a day can make a noticeable difference. 2. Pigmentation Amla (Indian Gooseberry) is your best friend. With 20 times more vitamin C than oranges, it reduces melanin production and boosts collagen, shielding your skin from sun damage, pollution and stress. 3. Dry or sensitive skin Sip on tender coconut water. It is a natural source of potassium, magnesium and cytokinins, ingredients that hydrate, soothe and maintain youthful, plump skin. It also has a mild anti-inflammatory effect. 4. Dark spots Jamun is a great addition to your snacks. Loaded with ellagic acid and anthocyanins, it helps reduce excess melanin and lighten stubborn patches. Bonus: it also offers skin-healing nutrients like zinc and vitamin A. 5. Dullness Grab a handful of blueberries. Do not let their size fool you, they are full of antioxidants like quercetin and anthocyanins. These fight oxidative stress, support gut health, and give your skin a clear, even tone. 6. Breakouts Add pomegranate (anaar) to your diet. Rich in vitamin C and punicalagins, it reduces inflammation, boosts collagen, and helps balance estrogen levels, a key in preventing hormonal breakouts.
