The dancer had planned to meet her friend having left her Tempe, Arizona, flat but never arrived.
In 2020, Vega was ambushed by a masked gunman who ordered her to hand over her possessions.
The gunman allegedly threatened to kill the Phoenix dancer after she was shoved to the ground.
Cudjoe Young was charged with armed robbery and Vega named him as the suspect, as reported by NBC News.
She was supposed to take the stand at court on the day she was found dead.
Now Maricopa County cops believe Young should be charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
Vega's mom, Erika Pillsbury, has since welcomed the verdict.
'We've been thrown a life preserver,' she said.
She told how her family had been 'drowning' in what she described as a 'sea of despair.'
Young tried to hack into Vega's phone after snatching her device.
Mercedes Vega's family break silence with desperate plea months after body of woman, 22, found in a burning car
But, he couldn't get into it as she didn't have facial recognition enabled.
Vega named Cudjoe after identifying him in the line-up.
Pillsbury told how the ordeal left Vega distraught.
She ended up moving to a new apartment.
Cudjoe pleaded not guilty over the armed robbery charges.
Meanwhile, two other men have been charged in connection with Vega's death.
Jared Gray, who is holed up in a Georgia jail, faces first-degree murder and kidnapping charges.
Another suspect, Sencere Hayes has also been charged with her murder. Hayes pleaded not guilty.
Hayes told cops he knew Gray. But, Gray denied knowing the two other men.
Vega, a former strip club dancer, vanished after leaving her apartment on April 16, 2023.
But, she was found inside a burning car - around 60 miles from her Phoenix home.
The vehicle was a different one than Vega's car that was abandoned.
Cops discovered blood on the front passenger seat.
Investigators suspected she had been assaulted before being kidnapped as reported by Arizona Republic.
A purse was also found and underneath it was a grocery store bag covered in blood.
CHILLING TEXT
Cops also made more chilling discoveries when they searched inside the car.
A pair of gloves and some bleach were found, and there was lighter fluid in the back.
On the day Vega was last seen, she messaged her friend, Jelena Gamboa, who she was planning to meet.
In the text message, she included a crying emoji.
'Uber is $60,' Vega wrote.
She then told Gamboa the cost seemed a sign she shouldn't go out.
Hayes risks facing the death penalty if he's convicted of Vega's murder.

Small boat migrant found dead riddled with bullets on French coast after being gunned down ‘by people smugglers'

A SMALL boat migrant has been found dead after being shot seven times by suspected people smugglers - with a murder enquiry launched. The deceased man - in his late teens or early 20s – is the latest victim of a surge of shootings around a camp at Loon-Plage, on the outskirts of Dunkirk. 3 3 3 Investigating sources revealed on Monday: "He was hit by seven bullets. "The camp was full of people hoping to get to Britain, when he was confronted by gunmen. "Around twenty bullets were fired in all, and seven entered the man's body." The source added how emergency service workers were at the scene but tragically couldn't save him. The Dunkirk prosecutor visited the crime scene, which on Monday was blocked off, and surrounded by armed police. The hunt was meanwhile launched for the "suspected people smugglers" responsible for murder, said the source. It was the latest in a long list of heinous shootings around Loon-Plage beach, from where small inflatable boats with migrants onboard regularly set off for Britain. In June, a Sudanese man was shot dead and a mother-and-child wounded by suspected people smugglers the same camp. The horrific bloodbath unfolded when a gang opened fire on specific targets, while hitting passers-by. Two males – a man and a 17-year-old minor connected to a people smuggling gang – were then arrested, and face charges of "murder by an organised gang' and "attempted murder by an organised gang." There were also charges related to possession of a range of weapons, believed to include pistols and rifles. Migrant hotel protesters take to the streets again as demonstrations spread across the country in weekend stand-off Beyond the dead Sudanese man, three other men were seriously wounded and taken to hospital in Dunkirk. All of the violence is said to be linked to people smugglers "settling scores" against those who do not pay them. The cost of a single voyage to Britain in a small boat is now as much as £1500 cash. In December, a gun enthusiast was charged with the murders of five men including UK-bound migrants around Loon Plage. Frenchman Paul Domis, 22, was remanded in custody after confessing to a lethal shooting spree in the area. During less than an hour of intense violence, Domis allegedly targeted three former colleagues, and two Iraqi-Kurds who had intended to get to Britain on small boats. Charlotte Huet, the Dunkirk prosecutor, said Domis faced 'life in prison' for 'three targetted assassinations' of men he knew, and two further charges of 'murder' of the migrants. Domis will be remanded in custody until a quintuple murder trial is held later this year, or in 2026. The Loon-Plage camp is an illegal one, but growing everyday as migrants from all over the world arrive. In the first half of this year, some 20,000 migrants crossed the English Channel to the UK, up almost 50 per cent on the corresponding period last year. Numbers of what the British government calls "irregular migrants" keep rising, with 638 arriving on the coast of England in the seven days to last Friday. Bruno Retailleau, France's Interior Minister, regularly pledges tougher action against the highly organised smuggling guns operating in northern France. He said: "Our government will intensify the fight against these mafias who are getting rich by organising these crossings of death."

'Loving mom' suffers horrific tragedy while enjoying daughter's softball game under shady tree

A 'loving mom' from Pennsylvania was killed in a freak accident while enjoying her daughter's softball game last week. Gendie Miller, 49, and her husband Bill were rooting for their 16-year-old daughter Marlee on Wednesday when they decided to get out of the 90-degree heat and sit under a tree, WPXI reports. As the teen was working on her drills just before 7pm, Bill said he heard a cracking sound that jolted him from his seat. 'I said to my wife, "Let's go,"' he recounted to WTAE. 'I jumped out of my chair, felt a small branch of some sort that grazed my leg. And I immediately turned to my right to look back at her and she was lying face down with large, multiple branches and limbs.' Gendie had apparently been struck in the head by one of the branches, which Bill said were between 10 to 12 inches thick. Good Samaritans immediately ran over to help remove the branches off of her limp body, Bill said, but the damage was too severe. She died on her way to the local hospital. 'With the heavy load of the type of branch and limb, it was devastating,' the grieving husband said. 'And I can tell you that she didn't die from her heart, because her heart was too big.' He explained that his wife of 17 years was known for her kind spirit, as well as her love for their travel softball family in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. 'She would never miss a practice or an event, high school, travel ball, wherever it was,' Bill said. 'That was who she was.' Family friend Luka Bompiani also described Gendie as 'such a loving woman, caring woman and a mother who lived for her daughter. 'And she put everything she had into Marlee and everything she had into Bill,' he said. 'It's just sad.' In a statement, Sheri Burdett, the District 9 USA Softball of Pennsylvania commissioner, said she was 'deeply saddened to learn of the tragic situation that occurred before the start of our tournament.' 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the Miller family during this incredibly difficult time,' she said. 'At this moment, our sole focus is on supporting them in any way we can.' McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko also said his 'thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. 'An evening that started like any other, with families and friends gathered in the park for a game, has ended in tragedy after this horrible accident.' Bill said he remains in shock about what happened, while their teenage daughter is 'being very strong.' Still, community members are rallying around the family, with one of Marlee's coaches on her Nitro Fastpitch team setting up an online fundraiser to help Bill with the expenses related to his wife's untimely passing. 'Between medical/ambulance bills, funeral items and initial lost wages, Bill and Marlee could use all the hope they can get,' Michael Mull writes in the GoFundMe, which had already raised nearly $48,000 for the family as of Sunday. 'Although it doesn't bring back their loved one, it takes a bit of the burden off of coming up with funds they don't have right now for something so unexpected.' 'You never know when your time comes and this was such a freak accident that they definitely need the community support around them,' added Bompiani. Yet the family friend expressed his hope that the family will be OK. He noted that he had spoken with Bill on Friday, when the softball coach told him Marlee looked up at him earlier that day and said, 'Hey dad, we got this. We're gonna get through this, we got this together.' 'When I heard that [it] just brought tears to my eyes,' Bompiani said.
