Fatal tractor-trailer crash closes traffic near downtown Macon. What we know

Yahooa day ago
Traffic was at a standstill after a fatal crash Wednesday morning on a highway near downtown Macon.
The driver of a tractor-trailer died on Interstate 16 Eastbound near Coliseum Drive according to the Bibb County Coroner's Office.
Donnye Leval Culbreth, a 48-year-old man from Hinesville in Liberty County, crashed around 6:20 a.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph.
All lanes of traffic were shut down for over three hours, according to Georgia State Patrol's Public Information Officer Courtney Lund.
Culbreth's Estes Transportation truck was the only vehicle involved in the wreck, Jones said.
'It struck a construction barrier and then moved to the right shoulder,' Lund said. 'It came to a final rest after hitting another construction barrier.'
The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and GSP responded to the scene. It was unclear what time they arrived.
Culbreth 'had to get extricated' from the front of the vehicle, which was crushed and flipped, Jones said.
The front of the truck was totaled and the tandem trailers were tilted on the side near a concrete barricade on the side of the road.
Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced Culbreth dead at the scene around 6:45 a.m.
The scene was still active, but all lanes of traffic reopened by 11 a.m., Lund said.
State troopers were investigating what happened.

A 1980 Renault R5 Turbo 1 in Photos

This 1980 Renault R5 Turbo 1 sold for €86,250 (approximately $100,650) through RM Sotheby's in 2019. Renault's R5 Turbo 1 features a zero-to-62 mph time of about 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph. The longitudinally mounted 1.4-liter inline-four engine makes about 158 hp. The interior of the Renault R5 Turbo 1 features a cubistic red-and-blue design. The Turbo 1 commands a higher price than the more common Turbo 2, and the original generation's dramatic interior and purpose-built bits make it the ultimate R5. The R5 Turbo was never inexpensive, and justifiably so for what was essentially a handmade homologation special. Prices for an example in good condition hover at, or under, $100,000, while $160,000 or more is not unreasonable for one in concours-quality condition. While enthusiasts used to have to do backflips to get a new R5 Turbo in the U.S. during its heyday, an example can be easily imported now, given that the model is more than 25 years old.

This Garmin dash cam is one of our favorites, and it's on sale from Walmart

A dash cam is a growing necessity for the road these days, so if you haven't installed one in your car yet, we highly recommend taking advantage of Walmart's offer for the Garmin Mini 3. From its original price of $150, it's currently on sale for a more affordable $119. The $31 discount may disappear any minute though, so you should finalize your purchase as soon as possible if you want to enjoy the savings on this small but extremely helpful device. Why you should buy the Garmin Mini 3 dash cam The Garmin Mini 3 appears in our list of the best dash cams as our top pick for a compact dash cam. True to its name, it only measures 2 inches by 1.3 inches by 0.8 inches, so it's going to be virtually unnoticeable on your windshield. It doesn't skip the important features to maintain this small size though — it records footage at 1080p HD resolution with a wide field of view of 140 degrees, for crisp and clear video even in low-light environments. The dash cam also comes with the Garmin Clarity polarizer lens, which reduces glare so that it won't miss any important details. It's very easy to set up the Garmin Mini 3 in your car, and once it's up and running, you'll be able to use the Garmin Drive app to download the videos that it can store on the cloud. The dash cam also accepts voice commands to start recording and save videos, so there's no need to fiddle with the controls or the app when you find yourself in an incident. There are lots of dash cam deals in the market right now, but the $31 discount on the Garmin Mini 3 from Walmart stands out because this ultra-compact device is packed to the brim with features. You'll only have to pay $119 instead of $150, which is actually a steal considering the peace of mind that you'll enjoy with the Garmin Mini 3 dash cam. You need to hurry in completing your transaction though, as its price may be back to normal tomorrow.

Live updates: Trump orders increased law enforcement presence in Washington as White House mulls city takeover

The White House said Thursday night that there will be an increased presence of federal law enforcement in the nation's capital to combat crime for at least the next week, amid President Donald Trump's suggestions that his administration could fully take over running the city. Trump has repeatedly suggested that the rule of Washington could be returned to federal authorities. Doing so would require a repeal of the Home Rule Act of 1973 in Congress, a step Trump said lawyers are examining — but could face steep pushback. 'If D.C. doesn't get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run,' Trump posted on Truth Social earlier this week. The catalyst for the order to increase police presence was the assault last weekend on a high-profile member of the Department of Government Efficiency by a group of teenagers in an attempted carjacking. The number of homicides and carjackings, both of which spiked citywide in 2023, has dipped significantly in recent years. A two-hour tour of the D.C. streets, starting around 1 a.m. ET Friday morning, revealed no evidence of the sort of multiagency flood of uniformed personnel described in Trump's announcement.
