Ives Calls AI the 4 th Industrial Revolution
Ives argues that AI is fundamentally reshaping the tech sector and that its benefits are just beginning to emerge. 'We have barely scratched the surface of this 4th Industrial Revolution,' he wrote in a research note, describing it as a golden era for technology. Over the next three years, enterprises and governments are expected to spend approximately $2 trillion on AI-related projects, he added.
Additionally, Ives believes Wall Street is 'underestimating' the scale of future AI-driven growth, as AI use cases are rapidly expanding with increasing adoption. He added that AI is shifting from the testing phase to the consumption phase, which serves as a major catalyst for software companies.
Furthermore, Ives anticipates a favorable policy environment, with ongoing geopolitical risks and tariff uncertainties expected to ease. He highlighted the White House's approval allowing Nvidia to resume its H20 AI chip sales to China as a 'key strategic positive.' Based on this, Ives expects the Trump administration to soften its stance on tariffs.
Interestingly, Ives also explained that AI spending has a broad ripple effect across the sector, stating that for every $1 spent with Nvidia, an additional $8 to $10 is invested elsewhere in the tech ecosystem.

Big Tech split? Google to sign EU's AI guidelines despite Meta snub
Google on Wednesday said it will sign the European Union's guidelines on artificial intelligence, which Meta previously rebuffed due to concerns they could stifle innovation. In a blog post, Google said it planned to sign the code in the hope that it would promote European citizens' access to advanced new AI tools, as they become available. Google's endorsement comes after Meta recently said it would refuse to sign the code over concerns that it could constrain European AI innovation. "Prompt and widespread deployment is important," Kent Walker, president of global affairs of Google, said in the post, adding that embracing AI could boost Europe's economy by 1.4 trillion euros ($1.62 trillion) annually by 2034. The European Commission, which is the executive body of the EU, published a final iteration of its code of practice for general-purpose AI models, leaving it up to companies to decide if they want to sign. The guidelines lay out how to meet the requirements of the EU AI Act, a landmark law overseeing the technology, when it comes to transparency, safety, and security. However, Google also flagged fears over the potential for the guidelines to slow technological advances around AI. "We remain concerned that the AI Act and Code risk slowing Europe's development and deployment of AI," Kent Walker, president of global affairs of Google, said in the post Wednesday. "In particular, departures from EU copyright law, steps that slow approvals, or requirements that expose trade secrets could chill European model development and deployment, harming Europe's competitiveness." Earlier this month, Meta declined to sign the EU AI code of practice, calling it an overreach that would "stunt" the industry. "Europe is heading down the wrong path on AI," Joel Kaplan, Meta's global affairs chief, wrote in a LinkedIn post at the time. "This code introduces a number of legal uncertainties for model developers, as well as measures which go far beyond the scope of the AI Act."

Global Markets Mixed as Investors Digest Tariff Impact on Earnings
U.S. stock futures were pretty much flat across the board after falls on Wall Street the prior session as the S&P 500 ended its run of record highs. Investors have plenty to parse, as they digest the impact of tariffs on corporate earnings and progress on trade deals. Ahead on Wednesday, the Federal Reserve and Bank of Canada are expected to hold rates, the advance estimate of second-quarter GDP lands as does ADP private payroll data. There are earnings from Microsoft, Meta and Qualcomm, among others, following a slew of corporate results in international markets.

'PC Shipments are Forecast To Rise…,' Intel Stock (NASDAQ:INTC) Slips
Chip stock Intel (INTC) recently put up its earnings report, and one key point emerged that proved oddly welcome. As it turns out, Intel's work to help augment the artificial intelligence (AI) PC market has done Intel quite a bit of good. This serves as a bright spot for Intel, which is in desperate need of those as so much of the market seems to be turning on it. But shareholders were still clearly skeptical, and shares slipped modestly in Tuesday afternoon's trading. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! One of the biggest surprises to emerge from Intel's recent earnings report was the revelation that Intel is a major part of the AI PC market. In fact, three key PC makers—HP (HPQ), Lenovo (LNVGY), and Dell (DELL) —all turned to Intel for its line of Core Ultra processors that can handle AI operations. Given that those three firms represent around 66% of the global PC market, Intel may have landed a serious win. There was further help from Gartner Research Principal Rishi Padhi, who noted that PC shipments '…are forecast to rise 2.4% in 2025, propelled by a tariff-driven front-loaded inventory surge in the first half of 2025 in the U.S., and ongoing Windows 11 replacement cycles.' That is also good news for Intel. With foundry shipments up 4.4% on a year-over-year basis, there are some signs of a comeback in the making for Intel, though perhaps a slow one, and one not quite as pronounced as some might like. A Surprising Blow to Costa Rica Intel has been closing down operations worldwide, and one more such operation emerged recently. Intel announced plans to shut down chip assembly and test plant operations in Costa Rica, a move which will, somehow, '…drive greater efficiency and utilization within our global manufacturing network.' However, that is not the end of Intel in Costa Rica. Its engineering and corporate service positions will remain untouched, at least for now, reports note. Intel plans to absorb the losses by consolidating Assembly and Test Manufacturing (ATM) operations in Vietnam and Malaysia instead. Interestingly, some elements in Costa Rica moved quickly following the announcement. The Association of Free Zone Companies of Costa Rica (AZOFRAS) called on Costa Rican leaders to '…take swift action to safeguard national competitiveness,' one report noted. Is Intel a Buy, Hold or Sell? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on INTC stock based on one Buy, 25 Holds and three Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 31.36% loss in its share price over the past year, the average INTC price target of $22.25 per share implies 8.75% upside potential.
