
Ban on liquor sale in, around Pandharpur on Palkhi routes
The ban will come into effect in the town and within a 5km radius from July 4 to July 10. Additionally, the ban will be enforced from June 30 in towns and villages along which the Palkhis of Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar will pass.
On June 30, liquour shops will remain shut in Netepute town and in Malshiras and Akluj on July 1, Velapur, Borgaon, Shripur, and Malinagar on July 2, Bhendishegaon and Pirachi Kuroli on July 3.
On July 4, liquor shops in Wakhari, which is the last stop before entering Pandharpur, will remain shut.
District collector Kumar Ashirwad stated that orders have been issued as per Sec 142 of Maharashtra Prohibition of Liquor Act, with the aim of ensuring public peace during the days leading up to and following Ashadi Ekadashi.
Traffic regulations will be in place in the town from June 30 to July 7. All vehicles will be banned from entering Pradakshina Marg, Mahadwar Chowk to Shivaji Chowk. Heavy vehicles such as trucks and state transport buses will not be allowed via Teen Rasta Marg. Parking places have been identified for the devotees.

Elderly Couple Killed In Hit-And-Run On Pune Highway, Captured In CCTV: Cops
Pune: An elderly couple was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident on the Pune-Solapur Highway near Bhigwan in Pune district on Sunday morning, a police official from Pune Rural Police said. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Malhari Pawar (57) and Pankhabai Pawar (50), both residents of Ahilyanagar district. The couple was reportedly returning from Pandharpur after participating in the Ashadi Ekadashi pilgrimage when the accident occurred. The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. when the couple was riding their motorcycle on the highway. A speeding oil tanker allegedly rammed into their two-wheeler from behind. Malhari Pawar died on the spot, while pillion rider Pankhabai Pawar succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a private hospital. Police further stated that the tanker driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene immediately. Local authorities and passersby rushed the injured woman to the hospital, but she could not be saved. The entire incident was also captured on CCTV footage. According to Vinod Mahangade, Assistant Police Inspector posted at Bhigwan Police Station, "A case has been registered at the Bhigwan Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act against the unidentified tanker driver. Police teams are working to trace the vehicle involved in the incident." Further investigation is underway.

Pandharpur's ‘Vitthal-Rukmini' temple to stay for 24 hours during wari period
Kolhapur: As Ashadi Ekadashi nears, Pandharpur's Shri Vitthal-Rukmini temple committee has decided to keep the temple's doors open to devotees 24 hours starting Saturday midnight. The call was made considering the large number of warkaris arriving in Pandharpur for the occasion as part of the Ashadi yatra. Temple committee co-chairman Gahininath Maharaj Ausekar said, "Due to the increased flow of devotees, the muk-darshan facility will be open 24 hours, whereas darshan by touching the feet of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini will remain open for 22 hours and 15 minutes every day during the Wari period starting Friday late night onwards. Due to the removal of the 'palang' (bed) of Shri Vitthal-Rukmini for the yatra period, royal ceremonies like kakda aarti, poshak, dhuparati, shejarati, etc, are being discontinued. However, nityapooja, mahanaivedya and gandhakshata will continue till July 16." A police officer said, "Traffic on the Wari route has been diverted and police camps have been set up along the entire route for security. CCTV cameras have been installed at the palkhi base and on the palkhi route. Additionally, police help centres have also been set up at various places along the palkhi route. Anyone facing any problem during the procession is urged to contact the police department."
