
Veeam launches Kasten v8 to unify VM & Kubernetes protection
This latest release introduces enhancements that allow organisations to manage both traditional virtual machines (VMs) and modern Kubernetes applications through a single platform. The new version also integrates with Veeam Vault, offering a fully managed offsite backup solution, and is intended to improve operational efficiency by consolidating data management under Veeam's suite of tools.

Kasten v8 arrives with several new features targeted at enterprise customers. Among those is the ability to unify data resilience for VMs on Kubernetes alongside containerised applications, aiming to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
The file-level recovery (FLR) function for KubeVirt VMs facilitates granular restores, allowing recovery of individual files from backups without recreating whole VM clones. This is designed to support enterprises using solutions such as Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation.
The release also introduces a virtual machine dashboard intended to provide a workload-centric perspective, helping teams identify each VM's dependencies within Kubernetes clusters and configure backup consistency more easily.
Veeam is extending freedom of choice to organisations through enhanced multi-CPU architecture support, which enables use of ARM and IBM Power to optimise costs. The company has also broadened support for the NetApp Trident storage provisioner and introduced backup capabilities for ONTAP NAS "Economy" volumes.
These features allow for more flexibility in how companies back up data across different storage systems.
Security measures have been expanded with this version. Features such as secure self-service cross-cluster migrations, restricted privileges for Kasten Pods and ISO 27001 certification are intended to increase customers' security profiles.
The adoption of a least-privilege approach is designed to both minimise risks and improve compliance. The process of encrypting passkeys has also been simplified to help enterprises maintain robust security while improving operational efficiency.
Operational improvements in Kasten v8 include a refreshed user interface, updated policy management systems and the Restore Point Catalog, designed to help administrators manage backups and restore operations more easily. The Per Policy Protection Status provides a clearer view into backup policies for specific namespaces, making it easier to identify and address potential issues quickly.
In support of Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation Engine, which is positioned as a replacement for legacy virtualisation solutions, Veeam is introducing Kasten for Modern Virtualization.
This tailored pricing option aims to integrate with Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Engine and is the result of collaboration between Veeam and Red Hat.

Dynatrace named Leader & Outperformer in 2025 GigaOm report on Kubernetes
Dynatrace has been recognised as both a Leader and an Outperformer in the 2025 GigaOm Radar Report for Kubernetes Observability. Report findings GigaOm evaluated 23 Kubernetes observability solutions, assessing factors including scalability, ease of use, compliance and governance, cost, ecosystem, and flexibility. The report placed Dynatrace closest to the centre of its Radar for Kubernetes Observability, signifying its capability to support customers' understanding of complex cloud environments, according to the rankings. The 2025 GigaOm Radar Report was authored by Dr Shane C. Archiquette, who commented on Dynatrace's performance in the industry review. In his analysis, Archiquette stated, "Dynatrace was classified as an Outperformer, given its fast-paced innovation in AI-driven observability and telemetry unification. The platform's continued fusion of security, observability, and automation positions it as a strategic solution for enterprises looking to consolidate tooling and scale their SRE operations with intelligence at the core." Kubernetes complexity The adoption of Kubernetes by enterprises has increased the complexity of cloud environments, introducing distinct challenges compared to conventional technology stacks. According to Dynatrace, its Davis AI engine is structured to use various AI methodologies, such as causal, predictive, and generative techniques, to automatically identify and contextualise root causes within Kubernetes environments. The firm claims these features are instrumental in reducing Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR) and align with organisational requirements for automation capable of managing multi-environment architectures. The GigaOm report outlined that Dynatrace's AI capabilities serve as a primary differentiator in the context of intelligent automation and monitoring. This enables organisations to potentially predict and prevent IT incidents before they can impact end users. In operational terms, Dynatrace suggests this aligns observability insights more closely with identified business outcomes. Cloudera acquires Taikun to boost data & AI across all clouds
Cloudera has acquired Taikun, a platform provider for managing Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure, to strengthen its data and AI platform across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Cloudera's move allows the company to accelerate deployment of its platform, including Data Services and artificial intelligence workloads, across a range of settings from public clouds and on-premises data centres to sovereign and air-gapped environments, all managed through a unified control structure. The need for more reliable and scalable data infrastructure has grown as enterprise IT environments become increasingly complex and distributed. The acquisition of Taikun provides Cloudera with native Kubernetes capabilities aimed at enabling simpler and more flexible operations, even within highly regulated or distributed contexts. Cloud-like operation anywhere Taikun's technology will give Cloudera an integrated compute layer, uniting deployment and operations throughout the information technology stack. This aims to deliver a cloud-like experience consistently across different environments. Customers will gain the flexibility to run data and AI workloads in data centres, clouds, or hybrid settings without compromising on performance or control. Among the benefits highlighted are support for highly regulated environments such as GovCloud, Sovereign Cloud, and air-gapped data centres. Taikun's integration is expected to increase operational efficiency through zero-downtime upgrades and improved resource optimisation. Customers will also have the option to integrate a variety of tools and databases from Cloudera's ecosystem and third-party providers using a "bring your own engine" approach. Cloudera described the acquisition as part of its approach to ensuring long-term flexibility for customers, enabling adaptation to future business mandates and maintaining alignment with changing requirements for data and AI workloads. Executive perspectives "This acquisition marks a pivotal step in our mission to bring the cloud experience wherever enterprise data resides," said Charles Sansbury, CEO, Cloudera. "By integrating Taikun's container-native platform in our stack, we are removing operational barriers and enabling our customers to unlock faster insights, make smarter decisions, and drive real-time action in every corner of their business." Following the deal, Taikun's engineering team will join Cloudera's broader engineering, product, and support organisation, with Taikun's base in the Czech Republic becoming a European development hub for Cloudera. "Our acquisition by Cloudera marks a pivotal moment for us," said Adam Skotnicky, former CEO of Taikun, "Our advanced cloud-native computing platform will enable customers from across the globe to deliver and deploy services and applications seamlessly, whether that's in the data centre or in multi-cloud environments. Industry analysts noted the challenges organisations face due to dispersed data and application management, and suggested that the merger could provide improvements for AI and analytics across diverse environments. "Organisations are suffering more than ever from fragmented data and application management across diverse infrastructures, increasing complexity, costs, and limiting data/AI initiatives," said Sanjeev Mohan, Principal, SanjMo. "The result: compromise on workload placement and data analysis. With Cloudera's acquisition of Taikun and integration in Cloudera's platform, organisations can now run AI and analytics anywhere their data lives - from cloud to edge - accelerating insights, empowering smarter choices, and driving real-time responses throughout their organisation." Acquisition strategy This is Cloudera's third acquisition in 14 months, following the purchase of Verta's operational AI platform in May 2024 and Octopai's data lineage and catalogue solution in November 2024.
