Final 2025 Philadelphia 76ers draft big board: Best fits at No. 3
As they head into this draft, there are plenty of options for the Sixers to look into. The goal for them is to get younger and add a player who can help them bounce back and turn things around. Philadelphia should be looking into every option in order to take the next steps forward toward title contention.
Here is the seventh and final draft big board with the draft a mere hours away on Wednesday. If one wants to see big board 1.0, it can be seen here and 2.0 can be seen here. While 3.0 can be seen here, 4.0 is here, and 5.0 is here. Big board 6.0 can be seen here. With that said, let's get into big board 7.0:
1. VJ Edgecombe, Baylor
2024-25 stats: 15.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.2 apg, 2.1 spg, 43.6% FG, 34% 3FG
Previous ranking: 1
Sixers Wire is firmly in the Edgecombe camp. He has the outlook to be the better player long term. He is supremely athletic, able to take any defender off the dribble, and attack the basket, and he is more than solid defensively as he is aggressive at the point of attack and can create turnovers. He is an outstanding worker, and even though there are some finishing issues at the basket, he is somebody who can contribute on that end right away. On top of that, he appears to be the frontrunner to be selected No. 3 after a strong visit with the Sixers.
In terms of his catch-and-shoot ability, a skill needed on a team with Joel Embiid on it, he shot 45-for-124 (36.3%) on catch-and-shoot 3s per Synergy Sports. However, he did shoot 21-for-45 (46.7%) when unguarded on those attempts. It shows that he can knock down an open look should it be needed. That shows he has a lot of shooting upside for his position and should be a great option. All of these players have flaws, Bailey and Edgecombe included, but it feels as if Edgecombe has the best chance to produce right away.
2. Ace Bailey, Rutgers
2024-25 stats: 17.6 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.3 bpg, 1.0 spg, 46% FG, 34.6% 3FG
Previous ranking: 2
Let's get one thing straight: Bailey is not Kevin Durant. It doesn't mean he isn't going to be a good player, but he is not Durant. He has good measurements with star potential, but the knock on him is that he settles for bad shots and the fact that Rutgers did not make the NCAA Tournament. Despite having Bailey, and Dylan Harper, the Scarlet Knights finished 15-17 and barely made their own conference tournament in the Big 10. He has fallen a bit on a lot of draft boards, but Bailey figures to be at least an All-Star at the next level, and the Sixers have to consider him along with Edgecombe at the top.
In terms of his catch-and-shoot percentages, he shot 36-for-93 (38.7%) on those opportunities from deep. He shot 29-for-66 (43.9%) on those attempts while he was guarded. It shows that he has the skill and the want to take and make tough shots. There is a lot to like about his game, but there are some rough edges he needs to smooth out.
3. Tre Johnson, Texas
2024-25 stats: 19.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.7 apg, 0.9 spg, 42.7% FG, 39.7% 3FG
Previous ranking: 4
Johnson has his flaws, scoring and shooting certainly aren't one of them. He has an ability to light up the scoreboard at any moment by taking defenders to the basket, being able to knock down tough 3s, and he can shoot off the catch or off the dribble. If the Sixers are thinking a microwave scorer, then Johnson should be their guy. One can argue that he isn't worthy of a No. 3 pick, but he has skills that will translate to the NBA level. He is reportedly gaining some buzz as a possible Sixers option at this spot.
As mentioned, he shot 51-for-125 (40.8%) on catch-and-shoot 3s. He was 32-for-77 (41.6%) on those attempts while guarded. Even off the dribble, he shot 38-for-99 (38.4%) on those 3-point attempts. He is an electric player and the Sixers should certainly give him a look before they decide on a player with this selection.
4. Kon Knueppel, Duke
2024-25 stats: 14.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.0 spg, 47.9% FG, 40.6% 3FG
Previous ranking: 3
I get it. Bailey is long and athletic, and Edgecombe has long term potential, but will they contribute right away at this next level? Knueppel has shot up draft boards and when considering the Sixers could use another playmaker, he makes a lot of sense. Either way, if the Sixers are thinking spacing and elite shooting, then Knueppel should be their guy. He has a high basketball IQ being able to navigate off screens to get himself open for looks, he competes on the defensive end, and he is an underrated passer. There are defensive limitations, but he is for sure a rotation player in this league due to his shooting ability and playmaking skills.
He shot 77-for-178 (43.3%) on catch-and-shoot 3s and was an impressive 36-for-84 (42.9%) on those attempts while guarded. He cannot do the things Bailey, Edgecombe, or Tre Johnson can do, but Knueppel should be on the radar of president Daryl Morey and Co. should they decide to trade down and add to the depth of the roster--which is another need for this group.
5. Khaman Maluach, Duke
2024-25 stats: 8.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 0.5 apg, 1.3 bpg, 0.2 spg, 71.2% FG
Previous ranking: 5
Maluach would be an option for Philadelphia should it want big man depth behind Embiid. With that being said, the Sixers do expect veteran Andre Drummond to exercise his player option for 2025-26 so he figures to return, and there is already young big man Adem Bona who made a name for himself as a rookie. However, Maluach stands at 7-foot-2 and the Sixers could always use some more size off the bench which has been an issue in the past.
With that being said, Maluach is a bit raw offensively as he limited to putbacks and lob dunks off the pick-and-roll. While he does have soft hands to make all of this work on the offensive end, the Sixers would need him to add some type of jumper to his game. Philadelphia needs versatility out of its big men and Maluach would have to add to his game in order to stick.
6. Jeremiah Fears, Oklahoma
2024-25 stats: 17.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.6 spg, 43.4% FG, 28.4% 3FG
Previous ranking: 6
These NBA Playoffs have shown the value of having three ball-handlers on the floor at times. One has to believe the Sixers are watching the playoffs with the idea that they can get to that level if they can bring in another ball-handler in the lineup. Fears fits that mold as somebody who can get the job done on the offensive end by running the offense and making things go smoothly.
Fears was able to produce good numbers in the tough SEC and improved as the season wore on. Overall, he shot 36.1% on catch-and-shoot 3s and is an elite passer out of the pick-and-roll. If the jumper continues on an upward trajectory, then he is going to stick in this league for quite some time. The Sixers could always use another player with a high IQ to make life easier for the stars and Fears fits that mold.

Texas A&M's tough 2025-2026 SEC basketball schedule has been revealed
Texas A&M's 2025-2026 basketball season will be the first for new head coach Bucky McMillan, who is just one player away from entering his inaugural campaign with a 15-player roster that is talented enough to compete for an NCAA Tournament bid. This summer, the new roster has been hard at work, getting acclimated to the speed and intensity of McMillan's system. After five seasons leading the Samford Bulldogs, McMillan is entering the toughest conference in college basketball, as the SEC has dominated the landscape in both recruiting and NCAA Tournament success. His new roster has enough star power, including former Texas Tech/Creighton guard Pop Issacs and Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who are expected to lead the Aggies in several categories. On Wednesday, Texas A&M's SEC schedule was released, and, similar to last season, the Aggies will be challenged from start to finish. Thanks to TexAgs for the graphic, the Aggies will kick off the 2026 SEC season against LSU at home, before facing Auburn on the road, Oklahoma at home, and then two consecutive road games against Tennessee and Texas. Outside of LSU, who should be improved, but not considered one of the top teams, Auburn, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas could all be ranked in the Top 25 at this time. Texas A&M will also face Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt on the road, which is quite the gauntlet for any first-year head coach. However, the Aggies are expected to be one of the top-scoring teams in the conference, so defense and rebounding are the fundamental questions that will be answered once the season begins. Story emerges of Sixers' Allen Iverson losing game of HORSE to rapper
Every basketball fan knows how prolific Allen Iverson was during his prime for the Philadelphia 76ers. The 6-foot guard from Georgetown was phenomenal with the ball in his hands, took home an MVP award, and lifted the Sixers to the finals in 2001. Overall, Iverson averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while being the smallest guy on the court more times than not. The man they called "The Answer" backed down from nobody and more often than not came out on top on the basketball court. However, even the greats take their losses. On the latest episode of The Wave's "7pm in Brooklyn", rapper Jermaine Dupri revealed that Iverson lost a game of HORSE against longtime rapper, Nelly: To his (Iverson's) defense, y'all be shooting the ball so high, and my ceiling ain't as high as the stadium. So unfortunately, a couple of times he shot the ball up it hit the Nelly was shooting like my gym was his gym. Iverson will never be able to live that down, but at the same time, losses do happen. One has to give credit to Nelly for coming out on top against one of the game's all-time greats.

Giants' Jerar Encarnacion exits with injury after crushing 442-foot homer in win at Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH — One minute, Jerar Encarnacion was belting his second homer in as many days, providing exactly the sort of power threat the San Francisco Giants have needed all year. The next, it seemed, Encarnacion was leaving with what looked to be a hamstring injury, grabbing his leg as he crossed first base in the seventh. The outfielder had just come off the injured list on Monday and has missed 99 games while out with a broken hand and then an oblique strain. For a team struggling to score runs, a near-certain third IL stint for Encarnacion is gut-wrenching, but the Giants made do without him in a 4-2 victory over the Pirates that gave them their second road series win in a row. Encarnacion homered in the fifth, but the Giants didn't score again until the eighth, when Patrick Bailey opened the inning with a pinch-hit single, Rafael Devers drew his second walk of the day, Willy Adames singled and Matt Chapman launched a sacrifice fly. More For You Giants' new-look lineup pounds Pirates as Logan Webb notches his 10th win Ex-manager Jim Leyland's thoughts on Giants' Justin Verlander? 'I was impressed' In the ninth, the team got some superb at-bats against Dennis Santana. Jung Hoo Lee ripped a one-out double, then Dominic Smith got down 0-2 before delivering a pinch-hit RBI double down the first-base line to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Bailey singled to send in Smith and provide a bit of padding. 'We talk about playing like we did earlier in the year, and that's what we did off the good relievers, quality at-bats,' manager Bob Melvin said. 'Obviously Dom's was huge. Bailey coming off the bench to get two hits, driving runs, that's a good recipe for us that showed up again today. It's been lacking for a little while. Hopefully it continues.' Encarnacion's likely loss still stings, especially with much of the rest of the lineup coming alive. Encarnacion's homer Wednesday, at 442 feet the second longest by a Giants hitter this season and the longest outside of Coors Field, accounted for San Francisco's first run; Adames hit the team's longest homer of the season, a 452-foot shot at Colorado on June 11. Encarnacion will get an MRI on Thursday. 'It doesn't look good,' Melvin said. 'You get hurt in spring training, you're playing catch-up all the time to get him back, now he finally gets enough at-bats and we see the type of at-bats we've been wanting from him, especially off left-handed pitching, and he's going to be down for a while now, unfortunately. Just ends up being a, so far, really tough year for him.' Giants starter Robbie Ray didn't have a perfect day, walking two to start things off and giving up one run as a result, but he limited the damage well. A double play and a strikeout helped him squirm out of the first, and the only other run off him, in the fifth, came when Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled, stole second and scored on Tommy Pham's sacrifice fly. Ray went six innings, gave up six hits, the two walks and two runs and struck out eight. José Buttó and Ryan Walker worked scoreless innings and Randy Rodriguez, coming off a blown save Monday, had a 1-2-3 ninth. Wilmer Flores, who turned 34 Wednesday, remained out of the starting lineup because of hamstring tightness, especially notable in a game against a left-handed starter. The team still believes Flores will avoid the IL, given Thursday's off day, but it's reasonable to assume there are also provisions in case he needs to miss more time and now the Giants have to consider a replacement for Encarnacion. While he's left-handed, so not necessarily a perfect match for Encarnacion or Flores, top prospect Bryce Eldridge is making a major push at Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .333 with eight homers, 24 RBIs and seven walks over his past 13 games. His 26 RBIs since July 18 are the most in the PCL. President of baseball operations Buster Posey is a big believer in promoting players when they earn it, and Eldridge is Sacramento's hottest hitter. He might not be quite ready to play first base, but Devers can serve as the lefty option at that spot and Eldridge could get at least some big-league at-bats at DH while Flores is out. It's purely speculation at this point, because the roster fit is awkward, but his hot streak makes Eldridge an exciting option. Fun to consider, if not the most realistic choice. A more likely left-handed hitting option — and he's an outfielder — is newly acquired outfielder Drew Gilbert, from the Tyler Rogers deal with the Mets. He's 6 for his first 12 with four walks and a steal at Triple-A Sacramento. The right-handed options are a pretty well-known crew: Luis Matos, Marco Luciano and Tyler Fitzgerald. The Giants aren't listing a starter for Friday's game against the Nationals at Oracle Park, but Kai-Wei Teng remains on the roster and would at this point be the man to get the bulk of the innings, even if the team uses an opener. Landen Roupp (elbow) will pitch a bullpen session in the next day or two, and if that goes well he'll make one rehab outing before returning to the rotation.
