Akal Takht summons Punjab minister on Aug 6 for hurting Sikh sentiments
Bains has been summoned for organising 'entertainment performances' at a programme held in Srinagar to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur.
A meeting of the five Singh Sahiban will be convened at the Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat in Amritsar on August 6 under the leadership of the officiating jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj to deliberate on various Panthic and religious matters, said a statement.
Bagicha Singh, who is in-charge of the Akal Takht Secretariat, said an e-mail has been sent to Bains, summoning him to appear before the five Singh Sahiban.
He said Jaswant Singh, the director of the language department, Punjab, will be summoned at a later date as he has gone abroad until August 12 for a relative's wedding.
Earlier, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had taken strong objection to the 'entertainment performances' involving singing and dancing at the event organised by the Punjab government's language department in Srinagar last month to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur.
The SGPC had condemned the performances, calling it an affront to Sikh religious values.
Bains had earlier said that he would appear before the Akal Takht and would be bound to obey every order while accepting moral responsibility.
Bains had said that he, as a Sikh minister, seeks forgiveness for whatever happened due to negligence of the organisers, knowingly or unknowingly, at the event.

Ghaziabad: Two relatives of fake envoy Harsha Vardhan Jain have now become suspects for allegedly removing documents and evidence linked to the ongoing case from Ghaziabad to Delhi, the Ghaziabad police said on Monday. He is currently in judicial custody having spent five days in police remand from July 29 - August 2. 'During this period, police came to know about two relatives of Jain who removed documents and evidence linked to the case from his house in Kavi Nagar to Delhi. These were recovered during the raids in Delhi last Thursday. Now, the two relatives of Jain are also suspects in the case (for causing the disappearance of evidence). In all, we now have three suspects in the case,' said deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (City Zone) Dhawal Jaiswal. The police said 'they will face BNS section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence)', said assistant commissioner of police (Kavi Nagar circle) Bhaskar Verma. Officers, however, did not divulge their names.

Gautam Budh Nagar: 28 decaying schools face demolition as infra push
GREATER NOIDA: District officials in Gautam Budh Nagar have been directed to expedite demolition of 28 dilapidated government school buildings, and ensure timely completion of infrastructure upgrades under the 'Operation Kayakalp', officials said on Monday. Also, district officials have been instructed to complete inspection and handover procedures for school buildings left vacant after the state's 'Vidyalaya Yugman' (school pairing) initiative. (HT Archives) The new district magistrate, Medha Roopam, last week instructed departments including Panchayati Raj, Public Works Department (PWD), and local development authorities to fast-track the assessment and razing of school buildings found to be structurally unsafe. Officials said 28 schools have been identified in the district to be in dilapidated condition. Of these, assessment of 16 buildings has been completed and reports submitted. The remaining 12 are expected to be evaluated by Tuesday. 'The demolition of school buildings that have gone through three rounds of auction (of reusable materials) must now be executed without delay as per the government order,' the DM said in the directive issued to local authorities and development bodies including Noida authority, Greater Noida authority, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida). The administration is also pushing to accelerate work under the 2018 'Operation' Kayakalp', an ongoing drive to upgrade government primary schools across Uttar Pradesh, by ensuring 19 core infrastructure facilities such as boundary walls, toilets, drinking water, electricity, and furniture, officials said. 'Departments have been directed to work in close coordination to ensure that structural upgrades are completed on priority, and unsafe buildings are dealt with decisively,' the DM said, adding that there will be zero tolerance for laxity in meeting infrastructure targets under 'Kayakalp'. Also, district officials have been instructed to complete inspection and handover procedures for school buildings left vacant after the state's 'Vidyalaya Yugman' (school pairing) initiative. The initiative relates to merging or pairing nearby government schools, especially those with low student enrolment to improve resource utilisation, teacher availability, and overall quality of education. To be sure, the district has approximately 500 government primary and upper primary schools. All Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) have been asked to submit detailed reports on whether these unused buildings are in usable or dilapidated condition. The aim is to enable swift repurposing or demolition where necessary, officials said. 'We are coordinating closely with PWD and local authorities to fast-track structural assessments and repairs. Our goal is to ensure no child studies in unsafe conditions,' said district basic education officer Rahul Pawar.

Noida: Two men suffocate to death inside car
Noida : Two men were found dead inside a locked parked car in Noida's Sector 62 on Monday afternoon, with police suspecting asphyxiation as the likely cause. According to police, a call was received around 12:30 pm, informing them that two men were lying unconscious inside a Hyundai Aura CNG car parked near a park close to a private school in Sector 62. According to police, a call was received around 12:30pm, informing them that two men were lying unconscious inside a Hyundai Aura CNG car parked near a park close to a private school in Sector 62. Amit Kumar, SHO of Sector 58 police station said police found the car was locked from the inside with the key still in the ignition, both the petrol and CNG tank were empty. During the inquiry, it emerged that the two men had been missing since Sunday night. It is also suspected that they consumed alcohol on Sunday night and were inside the car to rest.
