Millions expected to call in sick for GTA 6 release day
Source: Rockstar Games
The debut of
Grand Theft Auto VI
is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited entertainment launches of the decade and it might come with an unexpected side effect: the
'GTA flu.'
A recent study shows that nationwide search interest in the game has reached record levels, suggesting that millions of U.S. workers may take the day off, whether through approved leave or by calling in sick, once the game drops.
Study issues warning of GTA 6 launch-related mass absences
A recent report from fan site GTA Boom, extensively covered by TweakTown and GamingBible, suggests that GTA 6 release might lead to a tide of coincidentally scheduled sick leave. The data suggests that Florida, California, and Texas are among the states leading the chart in anticipation level, with Florida beating the national average by 31%.
Matt Gibbs, head of GTA Boom, observed, Considering the trend in huge sick day spikes upon release of high-profile titles, such as Red Dead Redemption II, it would come as no surprise to hear of an outbreak of
'GTA flu'
when the game comes out. He also cautioned employers in areas of high interest to prepare for an evident spike in time-off requests near the release date.
Historical trends indicate the phenomenon is genuine
This would not be the first time a Rockstar game inspired an unofficial holiday.
When Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013, a survey by IGN found that 46% of the 10,995 people who participated took the day off. Of those people, almost 2,100 said they were pretending to be sick in order to take the day off.
GTA Boom research draws on this cultural phenomenon and uses Google search traffic and social activity to measure the levels of excitement and make predictions about behavior. The concept of
"gaming sick days"
has become more prevalent, particularly for one-in-a-generation games such as GTA 6 that create huge worldwide buzz.
Although Rockstar Games has not yet made an official announcement regarding a release date, it's obvious that GTA 6 is already making waves. If past experience is anything to go by, and all indications are that it may be, employers can expect a dead day at the office. The virtual Vice City streets may end up being busier than the physical world when the launch date finally rolls around.

Sydney Sweeney releases soap infused with her own bathwater, fans react: ‘Thanks, I'll take 100'
Actor Sydney Sweeney has often complained about people being too obsessed with her looks and not focusing on acting skills. But she also doesn't shy away from capitalising on her appearance. She recently posted about a collaboration with personal care product company Dr Squatch, but this isn't just another brand endorsement. The company has announced a limited edition soap that has been infused with the actual bathwater used by the actor, or so they claim. This bizarre product was revealed via an Instagram post with quite an interesting caption: 'Introducing: Sydney's Bathwater Bliss Sydney Sweeney. In collaboration with Sydney Sweeney, we created a limited-edition soap infused with her ACTUAL bathwater. Why? Because you all wouldn't stop asking. And Sydney said, 'Let's do it' (what a legend).' Sydney only posted a picture of the brand new soap with the caption, 'You kept asking about my bathwater after the Dr Squatch ad… so we kept it.' ALSO READ: Sydney Sweeney calls off wedding to Jonathan Davino, attends wedding of Glen Powell's sister: 'No compromise with her magical career' Fans took to the comment section of the post, and while some expressed excitement with GIFs and remarks in capital letters, many were unsure about this collaboration. A user commented, 'Thanks, I'll take 100,' while another remarked, 'We got Syndey Sweeney Dr Squatch bathwater soap before GTA 6.' Many expressed their confusion over the collab. One person commented, 'Alright, this is getting ridiculous,' and another wrote, 'Sydney honey I love you, but I don't know about this.' Interestingly, this isn't the weirdest thing a celebrity has decided to sell, as many may remember Gwyneth Paltrow's infamous Goop candle. The Iron Man actor came up with candles which smelt like her vagina. Sweeney's Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi has previously sold candles infused with his bathwater, which was a reference to a scene in the film Saltburn. On the professional front, Euphoria's next season is all set to premiere in 2026, and Sweeney will also be seen in the film Americana, alongside Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Simon Rex, Zahn McClarnon and Eric Dane. The film will release on August 22.

7 micro missions we can expect to see in GTA 6
Source: Rockstar Games With Rockstar's world-building reputation and what we've glimpsed so far in the GTA 6 trailers, it's safe to assume that the game will extend far beyond its core story. One development that fans and industry observers are growing more and more enthusiastic about is the development of micro missions, small, ad-hoc side activities that create the sensation of an open world being reactive and responsive. Nothing is official at this point, but here are seven micro missions that could appear in GTA 6. 1. Bank robberies on the fly Source: Rockstar Games With Lucia's criminal past and some big-stakes visuals in the trailers, it's not hard to imagine players running across smaller, lower-key bank robberies. They might not be full-fledged story missions, but quick hit robberies that leave options on how to go about it and get out. 2. Underground MMA fights Source: Rockstar Games One trailer shot is of Lucia inside of a rough-hewn fight ring, fueling rumors about underground fighting clubs. These, if included, could function as spontaneous combat challenges or reputation-based activities around Vice City. 3. Community service ordered by court Source: Rockstar Games Lucia is also spotted wearing an orange vest cleaning roads perhaps as a parole requirement. This may suggest micro missions related to the justice system, where players are required to do tasks such as litter picking or graffiti removal as punishment for in-game arrests. 4. Peaceful fishing Source: Rockstar Games Fishing side games have also been a player favorite in some of Rockstar's other games, and it would not be out of the question for them to come back in GTA 6. These scenes could provide tranquility compared to the rest of the game. 5. Mini golf and informal sports Source: Rockstar Games Spotted in the trailer are glimpses of mini golf courses, indicating GTA 6 may be going for recreational micro missions. A couple of quick sports matches would pop up across the map, allowing players to take a break from the criminal lifestyle. 6. Kayaking and watersports Source: Rockstar Games Kayaking is another recreational activity featured in GTA 6. Players can navigate the waterways of Vice City, offering a unique perspective of the environment and a tranquil alternative to the game's more intense missions. 7. Street basketball Source: Rockstar Games With courts open in Vice City, there are some players who speculate impromptu basketball games could serve as relaxed, skill-based micro missions. Although Rockstar has not made anything official about these features, the trailer information and previous game trends indicate GTA 6 can be full of bite-sized moments of gameplay. Should they prove correct, these micro missions could end up being the hidden gems that find players playing long after the storyline is over. GTA 6 screenshots recreated in Cyberpunk 2077 showcase Rockstar's next-gen visual leap
Source: Rockstar Games A committed Cyberpunk 2077 gamer has remade a number of the biggest Grand Theft Auto 6 screenshots released with Trailer 2 this month. Through the use of mods, they synchronized lighting, poses, and composition to closely replicate Rockstar's initial footage. The result isn't merely a nod to GTA 6's initial look, it's also an unmistakable demonstration of how much further Rockstar is taking graphical realism compared to other contemporary triple-A games. Cyberpunk recreations highlight GTA 6's visual transformation Image Via Reddit Reddit user Party-Scallion-189 undertook the ambitious task of recreating GTA 6 screenshots within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Utilizing character Panam as a proxy for Lucia, they replicated major trailer moments, from Lucia mid-punch to her lounging in a swimming pool. Multiple mods were employed to tweak character poses, facial expressions, lighting effects, and even camera angles, creating some very detailed side-by-side comparisons. Even though the creator insisted the intention wasn't to crown a victor in a graphics battle, fans couldn't help but observe vast contrasts. The GTA 6 screenshots, built upon Rockstar's in-game footage, have more realistic skin details, gentler natural lighting, and deeper environmental immersion. Even with Cyberpunk 2077's reputation for visuals, the comparison only serves to illustrate just how evolved GTA 6's visual fidelity already looks, particularly the fact that the game isn't due for release for another year. Record-breaking trailer sparks fan imagination through long wait The timing of this video endeavor could not be more apt. Rockstar's second GTA 6 trailer, which dropped on May 6, set internet records at more than 475 million views in 24 hours, creating unprecedented heat on platforms. In addition to it, Rockstar dropped more than 70 new images, providing fans with more than ample material to examine, remix, and re-imagine. With GTA 6 officially pushed back to May 26, 2026, fans are getting creative about what they can do in the meantime. From hunting for easter eggs to photo recreations such as this one, the community is only gaining steam while Rockstar remains silent. This remake of Cyberpunk 2077 is more than simply a cool-looking visual experiment, it's evidence of GTA 6's high level of production and dedication of its fan base. Even without gameplay, Rockstar has provided fans with enough to dream of the future. If these images are anything to go by, that future is amazing.
