SIPITANG: A total of 17 teams competed in a lively closed and invitational volleyball tournament held at Kampung Kaban on Saturday. The tournament organised by the Sipitang Warisan Coordinating Body in collaboration with the Kaban Village Youth featured nine men's teams and eight women's teams. Majlis Daerah Beaufort (MDB) clinched the men's championship title and RM500 in prize money. The runners-up position went to team Kelangsat, who took home RM300, while third place was shared between Bare-bare and AVC, each receiving RM200. In the women's category, team Lubak emerged victorious and bagged RM500, followed by AL'S in second place with RM300. Ulun Taka and Velocity VT tied for third place and earned RM200 each. The participating teams in the men's division included Kelangsat, GAB'S, AVC, Ulun Taka, Lembaga Industri Getah Sabah (LIGS), Kaban, MDB, Bare-bare, and Konco. Meanwhile, the women's division featured Velocity VT, Mix Team, Kaban, VL's, Saga Beaufort, S25, Lubak, and Ulun Taka.
Advertisement The closing ceremony was officiated by Warisan Sipitang Information Chief Yusri Pungut, with earlier proceedings launched by Warisan Sindumin Coordinator Pengiran Yakub. Yusri also presented the prizes for the men's category, while Engrit Liaw handed out awards to the women's winners. Meanwhile, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Women's Exco Maria Samuel, who was present throughout the event, expressed her pride in the tournament being held in her hometown. 'This has been a very festive event, and I came to show my support because it was held right here in my own village,' she said. Maria also praised the unity displayed by the spectators and participants, who set aside political differences for the love of sport. 'Politics and sports should not mix. Darul Makmur Stadium Grass Pitch Receives FIFA Nod
KUANTAN, May 30 (Bernama) -- The Darul Makmur Stadium here scored a landmark precedent when its natural grass pitch became the first in Malaysia to receive certification from world governing body FIFA through its Quality Programme for Natural Playing Surfaces. Pahang Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said the certificate was issued after the pitch passed a comprehensive assessment by a FIFA-appointed consultancy company, Acousto-Scan Pty Ltd, on April 23 and 24. "The pitch received an excellent rating with a score of 93 per cent after the assessment was conducted covering three main components, namely climate testing, sports performance testing and agronomic testing," he said at a press conference here today. bootstrap slideshow Fadzli also said the assessment included aspects such as soil temperature, humidity, ball bounce, surface hardness, root system, weed content and soil health. "This recognition marks a major success in the technical and maintenance aspects of the national sports field. "I was informed that the 'Bermuda Tifgrand' grass on this field is the first to be planted outside Japan, besides this field having three layers and a water drainage system underneath to speed up the water absorption rate," he said. The field was built and upgraded according to strict FIFA specifications by local contractor, RS Greenmaster (M) Sdn Bhd, which played an important role in this success. The field upgrade project involved a cost of RM1.6 million, of which RM500,000 was contributed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports while RM1.1 million was borne by the state government. He said the contractor had already given them the green light to use the field but it would only be used in one or two months.

Harvest Festival Cup this Sunday

Kota Kinabalu: The prestigious Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) Harvest Festival Cup meeting is scheduled this Sunday (June 1) at Tambalang Racecourse, Tuaran. The day will witness supreme equine athletes battling for the ultimate rights to be champions of Bornean racing. Highlight races for the day includes the Harvest Festival Sprint (1,200m) and the Mile (1,600m). For the Sprint, 11 thoroughbreds are fighting for top position, with Easylights, Kinabalu Prince and Star Empire earmarked as early favourites. The Mile sees David's Sling ready for fierce battle with Kinabalu Star, Summer Glitter and Brilliant One over a challenging and energy-sapping 1,600m. The total prize money for these two marquee races is RM60,000. On the same day, both RSTC and Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) in close partnership will hold the Jualan Madani Koperasi bazaar – a community-focused initiative aimed at supporting residents with access to affordable daily essentials. Advertisement This bazaar will take place from 1pm to 5pm at the Racecourse, with many essential items from rice, poultry to packaged food items on steep discount for sale. All residents from nearby villages and communities are welcome to attend.
