Kaizer Chiefs legend wants Sundowns right-back at Naturena

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Patrick Mabedi has urged Amakhosi to sign Khuliso Mudau from Mamelodi Sundowns. The lanky defender has not penned a new deal with Masandawana, which could open a door for other PSL clubs. Mudau is highly regarded as one of the best right-backs in Africa, having played in the CAF Champions League final and Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. Mabedi feels Kaizer Chiefs would benefit if they could sign the Bafana Bafana star. The former Malawi international coached Mudau when he coached at Black Leopards seven years ago. 'He is a very good player. If Chiefs sign him they could have found a missing link in not only their defence but the whole team. You know when I coached him at Black Leopards we used to use him either as a right back, right winger or even a central midfielder. That's how good he is. So, this could be the biggest move for Chiefs in recent times. Personally, I would encourage them to go for him,' Mabedi told Soccer Laduma . The Amakhosi legend says Mudau is a player who could help Chiefs build from the back as he is good playing with the ball at his feet. 'You know he comes from Sundowns who like playing the ball around. He is good in that and Chiefs need such a player who can help them build from the back and link up with their attackers. This could really be a good move for Chiefs (if they attempt to sign him),' the former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach stated. Mudau has attracted offers from North Africa so a move to Chiefs is very unlikely at this stage, given the player is in his prime. Wallabies improvement ‘through the roof' … and the Boks are up next

The Wallabies are much improved since they finished last in the previous two editions of the Rugby Championship. British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell has praised the improvement in the Wallabies ahead of their Rugby Championship campaign, starting with matches against the Springboks. The Wallabies narrowly lost their Lions tour 2–1, though their second defeat came after a controversial refereeing decision in the dying minutes gave the Lions the win (score 29–26). They recovered from that and won the last match comfortably, 22–12, in Sydney last weekend. In the build-up to the final match, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus said his money had been on Australia to win the second game. He said he knew they would up the ante in the third Test, and bring the same fire when they take on the Springboks in their opening Rugby Championship matches in Johannesburg and Cape Town on 16 and 23 August, respectively. Wallabies much improved over last 18 months After the tour, coach Farrell said it was frustrating not to be the first unbeaten Lions side to tour since 1974. Still, he lauded the tenacity of the current Australian set-up, who, though ranked eighth in the world now, are much-improved from the 2023 side that was the first Wallabies outfit to fail to reach the World Cup quarter-finals. They have also finished last in the previous two Rugby Championships. 'The best team won the night,' Farrell said. 'I've just said to the lads, on reflection, it may take one or two beers to be unbelievably proud of what they have achieved throughout this tour. 'We all know how difficult it is to be successful on a Lions tour against a good side like Australia, and they are a good side, and they proved that over the series.' He said the Wallabies had progressed 'through the roof' over the past 18 months. He also backed them to continue bettering themselves and be a major threat come the 2027 World Cup in Australia. 'I said to Joe [Schmidt] out there on the pitch, I think that special things are going to happen for this team over the next 18 months, and when the World Cup comes around, they will be a force to be reckoned with. 'They have got some special athletes and some special players, and it's not a surprise to us how they have performed over the last couple of weeks.'

Kaizer Chiefs set to make bold technical team change

Kaizer Chiefs could soon unveil a significant addition to their technical team as part of Nasreddine Nabi's sweeping rebuild at Naturena. Highly respected youth coach Vela Khumalo has emerged as a strong candidate to join the senior setup, in a move that could signal a deeper commitment to homegrown expertise. A source revealed that management is actively discussing Khumalo's promotion from the youth structures to the senior technical bench. The former national youth team coach, known for his eye for talent and tactical sharpness, may become a vital part of Nabi's inner circle as Amakhosi look to reignite their glory days. 'It's something that's been talked about internally. Vela is highly respected at the club and within South African football. He's someone who knows the Chiefs culture well and has achieved a lot with national junior teams,' the source said. Khumalo has guided South African youth sides to numerous regional and continental titles, earning a reputation as one of the country's most effective talent developers. His deep understanding of the Chiefs DNA and success at nurturing young players perfectly aligns with Nabi's vision for a rejuvenated and competitive Amakhosi squad. The Tunisian tactician has already begun reshaping the club since his arrival, ending a decade-long wait for silverware with last season's Nedbank Cup triumph. Now, with an eye on long-term success. He looks set to bolster his technical team with individuals who understand the local landscape. And share his drive to return Chiefs to the pinnacle of South African football. Elevating Khumalo would showcase the club's faith in its internal structures and commitment to continuity. Especially with youth development being a cornerstone of the current rebuild. The move would also underline Chiefs' belief in the quality of South African coaches. At a time when pressure mounts for the club to deliver both on and off the field. Excitement is already building behind the scenes at Naturena as talk of Khumalo's promotion gains momentum. His track record of producing players who thrive at senior level. And adds to the belief that his presence could bring fresh energy and perspective to the first team. If Chiefs confirm the appointment, it would mark a bold and calculated decision to lean on proven local knowledge in pursuit of their return to the summit of South African football.
