Oman affirms firm support to Palestinian rights

Observer03-03-2025
Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, will head the Sultanate of Oman's delegation at the extraordinary Arab Summit, scheduled to be held in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Tuesday.
He will be accompanied by an official delegation including Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Shaikh Faisal bin Omar al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department, and a number of officials at the Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, the Sultanate of Oman affirmed its firm position calling for achieving a just and comprehensive peace for the Palestinian people, respecting their legitimate rights to establish their independent state on their land, and its firm and decisive position against any attempts to displace the residents of the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.
Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi told Oman News Agency that the Sultanate of Oman believes that the Palestinian cause is not just an Arab cause, but rather a just humanitarian cause linked to the principles of international law and international legitimacy. Based on this firm position, it has affirmed in all international and regional forums its full support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, most notably their right to establish their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
He added that the Sultanate of Oman has always called for the necessity of respecting international legitimacy resolutions as the legal framework that guarantees the achievement of just and comprehensive peace, stressing its categorical rejection of all policies that aim to impose a new reality on the Palestinian territories, whether through settlement, siege or forced displacement, as these practices only lead to further escalation, exacerbate the suffering of the Palestinian people, and threaten security and stability in the region. - ONA

Oman condemns Israeli PM's remarks on 'Greater Israel'

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has strongly condemned the statements made by the Prime Minister of the Israeli government and his claims regarding the so-called 'Greater Israel'. Oman expressed its categorical rejection of his illegal expansionist schemes, which blatantly violate international law and infringe upon the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their lands in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem as its capital. In a statement issued on Thursday by the Foreign Ministry, Oman emphasised that these expansionist propositions pose a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, fuelling hostility and tension at a time when de-escalation, cooperation among regional states, and respect for the principles of national sovereignty and good neighbourliness are most needed. Oman also reaffirmed its steadfast stance in supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states and its firm rejection of any schemes aimed at undermining national entities or altering the political geography of the region. Oman reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. The Sultanate of Oman has called upon the international community to take a firm stance against these aggressive policies and to work towards safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people, ensuring the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace in the region. Meanwhile, Arab nations have also slammed comments by Netanyahu apparently expressing support for the idea of an expanded 'Greater Israel', calling the remarks a threat to their sovereignty at an especially tense time for the region. Jordan condemned the prime minister's Greater Israel remarks as a "dangerous and provocative escalation" and "a threat to the sovereignty of states". A spokesman for its foreign ministry went on to reject what he called Netanyahu's "inflammatory" rhetoric and "delusional claims". Egypt also said that it had "requested clarification on this matter", characterising it as tantamount to a "rejection of the option of peace in the region". - Agencies
