HC dismisses plea for National Centre for Ageing in every district

Time of India2 days ago
Madurai: The
Madras high court
has dismissed a public interest litigation seeking the establishment of a National Centre for Ageing in all districts across the state.
The petition, filed by K K Ramesh of Madurai, claimed that many elderly parents are neglected by their children and sent to homes that often lack proper facilities and medical care.
He sought a court direction to set up such centres in every district.
A division bench of Justice S M Subramaniam and Justice A D Maria Clete noted that welfare schemes for senior citizens are already being implemented by both the state and central governments. The adequacy or number of such centres, the judges said, is a policy matter for the government to decide and cannot be determined by the court.
The bench therefore dismissed the plea.

Karminagar celebrates I-Day with sign language

Hyderabad: At the 79th Independence Day celebrations in Karimnagar on Friday, collector Pamela Satpathy and other officials expressed their patriotism in a unique way by rendering the national anthem in the Indian sign language. The collector and officials spent the past two months learning the sign language through formal classes organised at the collectorate. The initiative aimed to help officials better understand and communicate with people who are hearing and speech impaired. Across the state, Independence Day celebrations were marked by cultural programmes, with students displaying vibrant performances. In Nalgonda, families of freedom fighters were felicitated. Meanwhile, in Rajanna Sircilla district, officials issued a statement cautioning against rumours circulating on social media that Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha violated the flag code by wearing shoes while hoisting the tricolour. They clarified that this act did not breach any flag code provisions and warned of strict action against those spreading misinformation. CCTVs installed in all dist courts, digi drive accelerated: Telangana CJ

Hyderabad: Telangana high court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh on Friday said CCTV facilities have been installed in all district courts during the last financial year, and the digitisation of court records—initiated in 2017—is being expedited. Addressing the legal fraternity after hoisting the national flag at the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the high court, the CJ emphasised that qualitative and speedy disposal of cases is possible only through the collective effort of the Bench and the Bar. During the past year, 74,768 new cases were filed, and 72,414 cases disposed of within 210 working days, he said. The state govt has granted administrative sanction of ₹1,053 crore for constructing 13 new district court complexes in priority districts—Jangaon, Bhupalpally, Gadwal, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Mancherial, Mulugu, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Sircilla, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, and Bhuvanagiri. Proposals worth ₹891 crore for new courts in remaining districts are pending sanction, he added. Revanth briefs guv on BC ordinance & polls

1 2 Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy reportedly briefed governor Jishnu Dev Varma on the pending Backward Classes (BC) reservations ordinance, as well as key issues such as local body elections and the upcoming monsoon session of the assembly, during a meeting at Raj Bhavan on Friday. The CM attended the 'At Home' programme hosted by the governor, accompanied by deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other cabinet colleagues. The state govt had earlier passed the BC Bill in the assembly and subsequently sent a proposal recommending 42% reservations for BCs to Centre, which is pending. While the governor has yet to take a decision on the ordinance, the Bill has been forwarded to President for approval. During the interaction, the CM is said to have apprised the governor of the impending local body elections, which are likely to be held next month following a Telangana high court directive setting a deadline of September 30. The govt is also planning to convene the monsoon session of the assembly in the third or fourth week of August. Ahead of the meeting, the CM introduced all his ministerial colleagues to the governor. He also congratulated BJP leader and newly appointed state president N Ramchander Rao, and held informal discussions with BJP MPs Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, K. Laxman, and others. Meanwhile, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chose to stay away from the event.
