US: Gunman dead after shooting police officer, two civilians in midtown Manhattan, says NYPD
According to a post on X, the NYPD Commissioner stated, "At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralised."
According to CNN, citing a source, a man was seen carrying a long rifle entering a 634-foot skyscraper building at 345 Park Avenue, which houses offices for the NFL and investment firm Blackstone, prompting a swift response from authorities.
One civilian is reportedly in critical condition, while another civilian and the police officer--who was shot in the back--are expected to recover, CNN reported, citing a law enforcement official. The NYPD bomb squad has also been deployed to the scene.
Meanwhile, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino also stated that authorities from the agency are also at the scene assisting the NYPD.
"The FBI is on scene at the Manhattan crime scene. The NYPD currently has the lead in this investigation. Our personnel are there to support their efforts. Motive is currently under investigation," Bongino stated in a post on X.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the ongoing investigation and advised residents near the area to remain indoors and take safety precautions.
"I have been on scene at the shooting in Midtown, and we can report the shooter is neutralised. The NYPD are now searching 345 Park Avenue carefully. If you are in the building, please stay where you are. People have been shot and injured, and I will soon be going to the hospital," Adams stated in a post on X.

Oman launches 'Aman, campaign to mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
Muscat: In affirmation of its steadfast commitment to protect human rights and safeguard human dignity, the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday launched a national campaign titled 'Aman' to mark the 'World Day Against Trafficking in Persons', which falls on 30 July every year. The commemoration of the event is in line with Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on consolidating the values of justice and fairness, upgrading the system of social protection and fostering the rule of law. 'Aman', a 3-month national awareness campaign, was launched by the 'National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking'. The campaign aims to promote a culture of crime prevention and support for crime victims, as part of relevant local and international institutional cooperation. The launch ceremony was held under the auspices of Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs (Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking). In a speech on behalf of the National Committee, Dr. Ahmed Talib Al Jabri, Assistant Attorney General (Deputy Chairman of the National Commmittee to Combat Human Trafficking), said that the launch of 'Aman' caps up the Sultanate of Oman's stance in the face of human trafficking and represents the integrated roles of security, judicial, legislative and humanitarian institutions. The slogan of the campaign embodies a sincere call to every human being and expresses the Sultanate of Oman's commitment in line with international standards, he said. Al Jabri added that Oman's action this year marks a milestone in the fight against human trafficking, in terms of intensification of investigations, prompt judicial proceedings and greater transparency about related arrests and convictions. He explained that the Sultanate of Oman is in the process of promulgating a new law that keeps pace with updates and reflects the evolution of the legal system (on combating human trafficking). For his part, Maj. Khalid Ali Tabuk, Assistant Director of the Department of Combating Human Trafficking at the Royal Oman Police (ROP), presented a working paper that outlined the tasks of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking and the ROP's role in discovering victims of human trafficking. He cited various cases of human trafficking crimes tackled by the ROP, as well as means of reporting such crimes.

Gunman kills four in New York skyscraper shooting spree
NEW YORK: A gunman with mental health issues opened fire in a central Manhattan skyscraper on Monday, killing four people including a policeman before apparently taking his own life, officials said. A fifth victim was in critical condition after being shot, Mayor Eric Adams told a late - night press briefing at a nearby hospital. The gunman was caught on surveillance footage leaving a black BMW and carrying an M-4 rifle, police commissioner Jessica Tisch told the news conference. US President Donald Trump on Tuesday called a mass shooting in New York a "senseless act of violence" carried out by a "lunatic." Trump posted on social media that he had been briefed on late on Monday's incident, in which a gunman shot four people, then apparently took his own life, in a Manhattan skyscraper. One of those killed was a police officer. "I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence," Trump posted. On entering the building, he immediately opened fire on a police officer before "spraying the lobby" with bullets, she said. The gunman then took an elevator to the 33rd floor of Rudin Management, which owns the building, and continued his spree before apparently shooting himself. He was later discovered by officers next to his weapon. The office tower block at 345 Park Avenue — home to the National Football League, hedge fund giant Blackstone, and auditor KPMG — was apparently targeted by the gunman, who is believed to have acted alone, Tisch said. The police commissioner identified the shooter as Shane Tamura from Las Vegas and said a revolver, ammunition and magazines were found in his vehicle. Tamura had a history of mental health issues, she said. A worker from a nearby office building wept as she left the area after a local lockdown was lifted.
