Why This Former Led Zeppelin Member Will Never Play 'Stairway to Heaven' Again

Why This Former Led Zeppelin Member Will Never Play 'Stairway to Heaven' Again originally appeared on Parade. Led Zeppelin is one of the most iconic classic rock bands, and "Stairway to Heaven" is frequently cited as one of the greatest classic rock songs of all time. The epic eight-minute track is famed for its slow opening riff, its soft vocals, and Jimmy Page's bombastic guitar shredding in the song's final third. While Zeppelin broke up in 1980, the band's three surviving members—Page, singer Robert Plant, and bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones—reunited for one night only in 2007. The event was recorded and released in 2012 as the film Celebration Day. While Plant, Jones, and Page are all still alive, they've made it clear that another reunion concert will never happen again. Why? Because they want to remember it for what it was and leave it in that moment in time. Now, as Plant gears up to release a new album with his new band, Saving Grace, he's revealed that he doesn't just feel that way about performing with his old bandmates, but about performing their hit songs as well. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Plant spoke to Mojoabout the pressure from fans to play the hits—and why he refuses to do it. 'What were the hits?" the Grammy winner asked. "How can they be related to now, where do they fit? They fit as a sort of memoir…' He continued to address why he'll never play Led Zeppelin's greatest hit. 'When people say that I don't like 'Stairway to Heaven,' I just don't like the idea of it," Plant explained. "These iconic things – they're just what they are." Plant has a point. Some things are better left untouched and left in a moment in time, like an iconic classic song or a whirlwind vacation romance. Saving Grace's album, also called Saving Grace, will be released on September 26. "I heard people got a problem with your character," Hudson said during the Tuesday, July 29 episode of her eponymous talk show, to which Mathison cheekily replied, "I've heard that too." "I've almost only played like the good guy, the hero in almost everything I've done, so in the last eight months it's been quite different for Drew," he explained, noting that there have been "many times" that he has experienced "a lot of aggression" from fans of the show. "One time in particular at a supermarket, somebody recognized me and was very excited to meet [me] and then quickly shifted and was like, 'I hate what Drew Cain's doing,' and grabbed an apple and threw an apple at me from across the produce section." "That was new for me," he said reflecting on the experience, before adding that things "could be worse." But Hudson tried reminding viewers that Mathison isn't responsible for his character's choices, while urging her Instagram followers, "Please don't throw apples at @cameronmathison!" 'General Hospital's Cameron Mathison Praised as 'Truly Phenomenal' Amid Character Backlash

'General Hospital's Cameron Mathison Praised as 'Truly Phenomenal' Amid Character Backlash originally appeared on Parade. Drew on General Hospital has fans outraged all the time. Most recently, it was because of Drew's request to have Danny (Asher Antonyzy) arrested when Scout (Cosette Abinante) ran away to see her brother. However, one General Hospital star wants to make it clear that Drew's portrayer, Cameron Mathison, is nothing like his character. Katelyn MacMullen (Willow) came to Mathison's defense during an interview with Michael Fairman TV.'He's truly phenomenal, and then obviously his work is just incredible. I feel like I learned a lot from working with him because he's been doing this for a while, and he's so kind to me, and supportive, and always makes sure that I'm feeling okay,' she expressed. MacMullen added, 'It's been cool to navigate this storyline with him because we both have been like, 'What is happening next? What are we doing?' We've kind of had to dive in together. I feel very grateful.' The actress isn't the only one of Mathison's General Hospital costars who has stood up for him as fans hate on Drew. As Paradereported, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) defended Mathison, calling him 'lovely.' Mathison has more than once shared how fans forget he isn't Drew. The actor recalled a time he got something thrown at him in the grocery store. He has also poked fun at the outrage and used humor to separate himself from his character.
