Busy Edinburgh road locked down after bus seen with 'hole in its side'
An eye witness noted that "there's a hole in the side of the bus". Emergency crews have locked down Edinburgh's Haymarket Terrace as bus seen with "hole in the side of it". A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) height appliance was deployed and spotted next to a double decker bus which has had an upper deck window removed, shown in images shared with Edinburgh Live. Police Scotland are on scene and have closed the road in both directions while paramedics were also spotted responding to the incident. The fire service confirmed they received a report to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service at around 7.09pm. One eye witness said: "I saw an ambulance take off and a ladder truck coming away from the window. There's a hole in the side of the bus." Tram services passing through the area have been temporarily suspended while Lothian Buses have said the 3 4 12 25 26 31 33 44 100 113 X19 X18 X7 X4 services will experience delays and diversions. Police Scotland and the ambulance service have been approached for comment. Earlier this month, in a separate incident, we reported that a BMW driver ploughed into an Edinburgh garden causing terrified kids to take cover in their homes. On the evening of June 10, Shona Halliday was at her house in Dalkeith when a motorist"came through the fence to her garden". Footage from the garden shows the BMW 3 series on the lawn, with damage to the front of the vehicle and the wooden fence crumpled underneath. Shona and her neighbour both have 13-year-old boys, who she said "could have been out playing in the garden". Officers have since arrested a 32-year-old driver, who is due to appear in court on July 2. Police have said no injuries were reported. At the time, Shona said: "This happened at 9.05pm last night on Thornybank Grove. "He drove into the Woodburn pavilion car park, then drove right through the boundary fence through my garden and through me and my neighbour's fence. Then was trying to reverse back out. "Neighbour and a bystander got him out the car and held him till the police came. No one was hurt but myself and my neighbour has 13-year-old boys who could have been out in the garden, such a shock. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 9.05pm on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025, we received a report of a one vehicle crash on Thornybank Grove, Dalkeith. 'Officers attended, and no injuries were reported. The driver, a 32-year-old man, was arrested and charged in connection with a driving offence and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 2 July, 20." Bather who exposed himself in university sauna claimed he was 'warming chicken'
Xin Zhang, 60, said he was 'warming his chicken' in the sauna after he was chucked out a lesiure centre by staff. A swimmer who exposed himself in a university sauna while staring at a woman through a glass window has been spared jail. Xin Zhang, 60, was handed a 12-month community order at Manchester Magistrates' Court after admitting a charge of outraging public decency. The court heard how Zhang, who regularly attended the Tom Husband Leisure Centre at the University of Salford, became 'aroused' by the sensation of pool jets during a swim before entering the sauna, reports Manchester Evening News. Prosecutor Emilee Creasey previously told the court that Zhang was spotted 'with his shorts down, rubbing his behind on the bench and touching himself in the sauna whilst staring at [a woman] through the glass window'. The woman, who gave evidence in court, said: 'He stood up. He was looking at me. He pulled his pants down just below the knee. He grabbed his penis and I could see his hands – they were going up and down. I thought 'oh my God'.' She said the incident lasted three to four minutes until a member of staff intervened. Zhang was confronted and told he was banned from the leisure centre before police were called. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In an interview, Zhang told officers he referred to his genitals as 'my chicken', claiming he had only been trying to warm himself up due to the cold and discomfort from swimming. He denied any sexual intent and said eczema caused him to wear looser clothing, which he was adjusting at the time. In a basis of plea, Zhang admitted touching his genitals but claimed it was not for sexual gratification. However, during a trial of issue earlier this year, magistrates rejected his version of events, finding the act was sexually motivated. They noted inconsistencies in Zhang's statements, including his claim that he had become concerned about a potential medical issue while in the sauna, which prompted him to inspect himself. The court also heard that Zhang has lived in the UK for more than 20 years and had been a member at the leisure centre for over a decade, attending up to six times a week. As well as the community order, he was ordered to pay £400 in prosecution costs and a £114 victim surcharge. He must complete 180 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity days.
