Elderly couple killed, 6 others injured in KZN house fire
Two people were killed and six others were injured in a house fire on Midmar Road in Shallcross, south-west of Durban. According to Garrith Jamieson, director of ALS Paramedics Medical Services, they arrived at the scene this morning at about 06:30 to find the eThekweni Fire Department already fighting the blaze. 'Paramedics stood by and assessed six people who had managed to escape from the residence and had sustained minor injuries. 'Paramedics were called to enter the house once the fire had been extinguished by the fire department, and unfortunately, [came across] the gruesome discovery of a couple believed to be in their late 60s that had suffered fatal injury as a result of the fire,' said Jamieson. The couple was declared dead at the scene. 'At this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown; however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.' This incident comes after an electrical fire set two Durban flats ablaze yesterday morning. The fire that started in the apartments adjoining the Grey Street Mosque in central Durban was successfully put out by the eThekwini Municipality's fire department on Monday. The fire, allegedly sparked by electrics, was first reported to the fire department at 10:00. Two flats adjoining the mosque caught alight in Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street, Durban Central. According to the Grey Street Mosque's chairperson, Av Mohammed, it took the fire department 20 minutes to put the fire out. There were no injuries reported. Stenhousemuir 0, Motherwell 1: O'Donnell strike keeps Well cup hopes alive
Motherwell kept alive their hopes of progressing from Premier Sports Cup Group D with a slender win over Stenhousemuir at Ochilview. The Premiership side had a number of chances to stretch their lead, particularly in the second half after a first 45 played in torrential rain. In the end, Stephen O'Donnell's strike just before the interval was enough to separate the sides and put Motherwell on eight points, going into a last-game showdown at home to Morton on Tuesday. Stenhousemuir boss Gary Naysmith made four changes to the side that lost to Morton on Tuesday, having made seven signings on Friday. Josh Walker, Finn Robson, Peter Mendy and Ross Taylor came in for Oli Simpson, Scott McGill, Matty Aitken and Corey O'Donnell. Motherwell gaffer Jan Berthel Askou made six changes to the side that struggled past Peterhead on Tuesday. Stephen O'Donnell, Kofi Balmer, Ewan Wilson, Andy Halliday, Tawanda Maswanhise and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos came in for John Koutroumbis, Paul McGinn, Liam Gordon, Emmanuel Longelo, Elliot Watt and Eseosa Sule. READ MORE: Motherwell 2, Peterhead 1: Well survive Blue Toon scare in Premier Sports Cup READ MORE: Motherwell boss 'expects more new faces' but says there have been plenty Stenhousemuir had the first shot on goal in four minutes, but Ross Taylor's scuffed shot was comfortably held by Matty Connelly. Motherwell went close in seven minutes when Callum Slattery's cross from the right was well met by the head of Tawanda Maswanhise, but brilliantly clawed over the bar by Darren Jamieson. A whipped Ewan Wilson cross from the left caused havoc in the Stenny box in 13 minutes, but there were no takers. Andy Halliday tried a shot from distance in 31 minutes, but it was well over. Callum Slattery saw a 19-yard free kick punched over the bar by Jamieson in 39 minutes, but referee Lloyd Wilson awarded a goal kick, much to the bemusement of the crowd. But Motherwell took the lead two minutes later when Slattery's corner from the right was met at the back post by a side-foot finish from O'Donnell. Motherwell went close to doubling that lead in 54 minutes when Elijah Just's cross from the left took a wicked deflection off defender Greg Buchanan, but keeper Jamieson reacted well to block. The visitors should have doubled their lead in 64 minutes when Slattery's cross from the right was met with a back-post volley by sub Eseosa Sule, but Jamieson brilliant blocked. Halliday's corner from the right was met with a powerful header by Kofi Balmer that was cleared off the line by Michael Anderson in 71 minutes. Anderson should have levelled in 90 minutes when a shot came to him through a ruck of legs, but he fired past with just Connelly to beat. Lucifer Of-Darkness, previously know as Berkani Nahim, lashed out at victim Christopher Jamieson in the public convenience at Waverley train station in Edinburgh earlier this year. Of-Darkness, 41, left the man lying prone on the floor of the toilets and then left the area to inform two police officers standing in the station's concourse that he had been forced to assault the man claiming self defence. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The constables rushed to help the unconscious Mr Jamieson and applied first aid and an ambulance arrived shortly after to ferry the man to hospital Of-Darkness, from London, denied the charge of assaulting Mr Jamieson by repeatedly punching him to the head to his severe injury on May 29 and stood trial this week at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Edinburgh Sheriff Court (Photo: TSPL) The accused man appeared from custody wearing a cut off denim jacket that sported a patch on the back stating 'I Don't Need Sex - The Government F**** Me Everyday'. He told the court he had changed his name by deed poll and denied being French instead claiming he was 'currently stateless'. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad British Transport PC James Grubb told the trial he was on duty at the capital's main train station when he and a colleague was approached by Of-Darkness at around 9pm on May 29 this year. PC Grubb, 26, said Of-Darkness told him he had 'knocked someone out, he pi**ed me off' and motioned to follow him to the male public toilets. The officers attended the toilet area and saw Mr Jamieson lying unconscious on the floor with several bumps to his head and blood over his face. The officers tended to the victim and phoned for an ambulance while Of-Darkness was led away and handcuffed before being arrested and charged. The court was shown the officer's body worn camera footage of the incident in which Of-Darkness could be heard stating: 'He started to assault me, I was defending myself.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Of-Darkness declined to give evidence to the trial but defending lawyer Gordon Stewart said no-one had actually witnessed the attack and there as 'an element of doubt' as to what had happened. The court was told Mr Jamieson had declined to cooperate with the police investigation and there was no record of his injuries. Following the evidence the Crown agreed to delete the words 'repeatedly' and 'severe' from the charge leading Sheriff John Mundy to find Of-Darkness guilty of assault by punching Mr Jamieson to the head to his injury. Sentence was deferred for a social work report and Of-Darkness was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing next month.

Former sidekick of caged kingpin Jamie ‘Iceman' Stevenson arrested in Dubai after five years on the run
THE former right-hand man of caged cocaine kingpin Jamie 'Iceman' Stevenson has been arrested in Dubai after five years on the run. Stephen 'Jimmy' Jamieson, 42, of Glasgow, will be extradited to Scotland over a raft of allegations linked to serious organised crime. 4 Stephen 'Jimmy' Jamieson (left) was the former right-hand man of caged cocaine kingpin Jamie 'Iceman' Stevenson 4 Jamieson was arrested in Dubai after five years on the run 4 Jamieson took over the kingpin's empire when he was jailed for smuggling cocaine in banana boxes 4 Jamieson fled to Dubai five years ago Credit: Getty Jamieson is 'ready to come home' to face justice following five years on the run in Dubai, we can reveal. Underworld sources said the drug dealer had decided not to fight his extradition to Scotland as he is fed-up of the glitzy lifestyle and misses his friends and family. Jamieson fled to the Gulf state five years ago and took over the empire of cartel boss Jamie 'Iceman' Stevenson, 60 — jailed for a £100million plot to smuggle cocaine to Glasgow from South America in boxes of bananas. He has been wanted by Interpol since and has now finally been tracked down in connection with allegations linked to serious organised crime here. One well-placed source said: 'Jimmy has decided to go back, face the consequences and get it over and done with. 'All of his close friends and family stay in Scotland. 'He's never been happy in Dubai. He likes his home comforts and the Glasgow lifestyle.' Jamieson fled to Dubai in 2020 as cops began rounding up hundreds of hoods after the French and Dutch forces cracked EncroChat — the encrypted phone network used by organised gangs. He has been snared under a cross-border arrest warrant, known as an Interpol red notice, and looks certain to appear in court in Scotland soon. Our insider added: 'Only the most serious charges result in red notices. The INSIDE story of Scotland's biggest gangster - Jamie 'The Iceman' Stevenson 'Whatever he is wanted for must be serious and if he is convicted, it will carry a large sentence.' Jamieson's arrest comes after we told this month how he chased ex-Rangers ultras leader turned mobster Ross 'Miami' McGill around a Dubai gym. Sources say the clash came as expat hoods in the UAE get 'twitchy' over the ongoing turf war McGill, from East Kilbride, kicked off in Scotland. Insiders say he was a supporter of McGill, who is targeting allies of jailed Edinburgh cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson, 38, after he was ripped off with fake cash in a £500,000 drugs deal. But the relationship is said to have soured after Miami and his crew also took on Glasgow's Daniel mob. Cops have so far made 55 arrests. Police Scotland declined to comment on Jamieson's arrest.
