VOLKSWAGEN'S fan-favourite GTI performance range is set to continue into its all-electric future.
In fact, the German giant promises it will be better than ever, with multiple model lines confirmed by CEO Thomas Schafer - who claims these new machines will be "mind-blowing" to drive.

According to Autocar, the GTI range will go electric in 2026, starting with the ID-named GTI concept – a souped-up iteration of the ID 2 supermini.
Naturally, a GTI version of the forthcoming all-electric ninth-generation Golf will also arrive by the end of the decade, marking the beginning of 'a whole group of GTI" models set to roll out in subsequent years.
Work is reportedly already under way on the development of the first electric GTI models, with particular attention being paid to ensuring they are just as fun to drive as their predecessors.
Schafer said: "First of all, can you make an electric Golf exciting? Absolutely.
"We have driven a few prototypes that we have built on the new set-up, and it is mind-blowing."
He added that the brand's priority is to engineer its electric GTI range in a way that makes its hot hatchbacks feel distinct from the standard models.
Schafer said: "What about the sound? What about the total feel? The handling and so on can be done.'
However, with the current petrol-powered car set to remain on sale for several more years, the production version of the electric Golf GTI will not appear in showrooms for some time.
Schafer added: "We have time now, as the Golf is running very well into the end of this decade, and at the end of the decade, we'll bring an electric Golf."
He also claimed the electric GTI will be "a monster car", adding: "I'm very happy with the progress.

'It's cool, and you can make it exciting. It has to be exciting, and it has to be authentic.'
No date has been given for when VW plans to unveil the final version of the ID 2 GTI, although the standard car is due to launch in early 2026.
Earlier this year, we revealed how the most noticeable change to the ninth-gen Golf would be its nameplate - with it set to be called the ID Golf.
VW's ID range, which currently includes several models, is how the brand separates its lineup of fully electric vehicles - all developed as part of their commitment to sustainable mobility and reducing carbon emissions.
The "ID" stands for Intelligent Design, Identity, and Idea, which reflects the German marque's vision for the future.
Last year, the Golf celebrated its 50th year and we were lucky to rub shoulders with the Mk1 Golf Owners Club at the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham.

Wirtz transfer twist as Liverpool bids rejected and two Reds stars eyed for swap

Liverpool have seen two bids rejected for Florian Wirtz as Bayer Leverkusen demand their hefty asking price - which could lead the Reds to tabled a player-plus-cash offer Liverpool have seen two of their opening offers for Florian Wirtz rejected and may have to give Bayer Leverkusen a player if they want to succeed in landing the German. Wirtz has emerged as a key target for the Reds this summer. They will have to smash their transfer record if they want to sign him, but first they and his Bundesliga club must agree on a fee. After two rounds of negotiations there has still been no breakthrough for the Premier League side. ‌ Originally they offered £84million with an additional £12.6m in bonuses. After that was rejected they upped it again and tabled an overall package which totalled £109.6m, but both were ultimately knocked back reports Kicker. ‌ The German club want £126m before they consider letting their playmaker go. Their club chief Fernando Carro previously said they "would never let Wirtz leave" for less than their valuation. Harvey Elliott and Jarrell Quansah are seen as two players who could help the two parties reach a breakthrough in negotiations, with Leverkusen admiring both. With a clear amount between what Liverpool want to pay and what Leverkusen are demanding the former Fulham youngster or the homegrown centre-back could help bridge the gap. Elliott struggled for game time throughout this season under Arne Slot and if Wirtz does arrive his minutes will likely decline further, which may motivate him to seek pastures new. The 22-year-old's signing may also hamper Dominik Szoboszlai's game time. ‌ Liverpool have already struck a deal with Leverkusen this summer after securing the signing of Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutchman will fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold and has signed for £30m after the Reds activated with release clause at the BayArena. Leverkusen's managing director Simon Rolfes has said on the player's future: 'It's currently an open subject with Florian. There is concrete interest from Liverpool, but there's no more to say right now. Florian is our player.' Erik ten Hag has just been appointed as the club's new manager following the exit of Xabi Alonso, but refused to be drawn on possible exits ahead of pre-season. Leverkusen have also lost leading defender Jonathan Tah, who has moved to Bayern Munich following the expiry of his contract.

Rashford suffers blow to dream Barcelona transfer as Catalan club make decision

Marcus Rashford is looking for a way out of Manchester United this summer and Barcelona has become a possible destination - though the La Liga side don't want to sign him permanently and will only sanction a loan Manchester United have been handed a setback in their bid to offload Marcus Rashford this summer, with Barcelona telling the Red Devils they don't want to pay for the winger, according to reports. Rashford is one of several United players who are likely to leave the club in the upcoming transfer window after a successful loan spell at Aston Villa. Rashford netted four goals and assisted five during his stint under Unai Emery but it is unclear whether Villa will activate their £40million option to buy him permanently. ‌ Villa's failure to qualify for the Champions League means it is unlikely they will try to sign him, with the player eager to play in Europe's top competition. ‌ Rashford enjoyed two Champions League ties against Club Brugge and eventual winners PSG before the team were dumped out in the quarter-finals. Barcelona have since moved ahead of Villa as the most likely destination for Rashford, but according to German outlet Bild, the club do not want to pay the £40m fee. It claims that Rashford is eager to move to the Nou Camp after falling out with Ruben Amorim and manager Hansi Flick is interested in making the deal happen. ‌ But it adds that Barcelona don't want to sign him on a permanent transfer and are only keen on a loan move. It comes as a significant blow to Manchester United, who are in a difficult financial position and need to make money from outgoings if they are to spend this summer. ‌ Rashford joins the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee who have been linked with an exit. Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Viktor Lindelof have already left on free transfers. But Barcelona's own financial struggles have been made clear too and they have previously had difficulties registering players. Last season they had a dispute with La Liga over the registration of Dani Olmo. It is claimed United would give the thumbs up to loaning Rashford out one more time, but they would require Barcelona to cover his £325,000-a-week salary while also paying a loan fee of between £5m and £10m on top. The Red Devils would also want an obligation for Barcelona to buy Rashford in the summer of 2026 - though the club have also been linked with moves for Liverpol's Luis Diaz and Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli, who they could turn to instead.
