Notre Dame Drops New Logo With Leprechaun Carrying Football
Football teams are constantly dropping new jerseys and helmets. Well, now they're dropping new logos. Notre Dame unveiled a new logo for the 2025 college football season on Thursday morning that features a leprechaun carrying a football. The leprechaun in a fighting stance has traditionally been the mascot logo of Notre Dame since the 1960s, with a gold "ND" being the acronym logo. Of course, a leprechaun has long been the school's mascot. This new logo is specific to the football program but the school stated that it plans to release sports-specific marks for all its varsity sports. The Fighting Irish are coming off a 14-2 campaign, headlined by them reaching the National Championship and making the College Football Playoff for the first time in four years. No. 6 Notre Dame opens the 2025 season with a pair of ranked matchups, those being a Week 1 road game against No. 10 Miami (FL) and a Week 2 home game against No. 19 Texas A&M. It named redshirt freshman CJ Carr its starting quarterback earlier this week. The Fighting Irish are entering their fourth complete season with head coach Marcus Freeman (he coached the final game of the 2021 season). Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Notre Dame will host 5-star 2027 South Carolina cornerback when they host Texas A&M
Rivals No. 1 CB in five-star Joshua Dobson has visits set to Clemson, Notre Dame and South Carolina. He talks about each program here: The list of elite prospects visiting Notre Dame for its contest against Texas A&M just got bigger on Thursday. On3's Steve Wiltfong is reporting (subscription required) that 5-star South Carolina cornerback Joshua Dobson will be making an unofficial visit between the top-25 combatants. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 175-pounder also has set up trips to see Clemson and South Carolina early in the season, as it looks like the Irish are chasing the reported leader Tigers in his recruitment. Dobson is one of the top players in the country regardless of position, as he's ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite. He made multiple visits during the spring, but didn't get a chance to check out South Bend. The Irish made their offer to him in mid-March during their 'Pot of Gold' day, as Dobson could be the next success story that comes out of the festivities. You can expect that the Irish will go hard after him, even though they aren't viewed as his current leader. Plenty could change following his early season visits, and hopefully Notre Dame is still near the top of his list following those trips. Notre Dame gets more love for its culture, this time from ESPN personality Marty Smith
The Fighting Irish continue to be preseason darlings The plaudits continue to roll in for Notre Dame. With the Fighting Irish looking to not only return to the national championship game but win it, the coaching staff has been garnering praise for its recruiting class and for putting together a team that looks, on paper, ready to be as strong or better than last year. In other words, it appears 2024 wasn't a "lightning in a bottle" one-off. Add ESPN's Marty Smith to the list, as he praised Notre Dame -- and, specifically, head coach Marcus Freeman for building the team's culture. A good culture is obviously something that can help a team win, and we saw that with the Irish last year. But given the final result, perhaps Notre Dame can use that culture to take the final step and bring home a title.
