Pennsylvania man accused of beheading father and posting video of his severed head to stand trial
A Pennsylvania man accused of killing his father and posting video of his severed head online — and calling for others to help him try to overthrow the U.S. government — is set to stand trial Monday in the Philadelphia suburbs. Justin D. Mohn, 33, faces charges of murder, abuse of a corpse, terrorism related crimes and other offenses for the 2024 killing of Michael F. Mohn at the Levittown home where they lived with the defendant's mother. She found her husband's body in a bathroom. Prosecutors have said Justin Mohn shot his father with a newly purchased pistol, then decapitated him with a kitchen knife and machete. The 14-minute YouTube video was live for several hours before it was removed. Mohn was armed with a handgun when arrested later that day after allegedly climbing a 20-foot (6-meter) fence at Fort Indiantown Gap, the state's National Guard headquarters. He had hoped to get the soldiers to 'mobilize the Pennsylvania National Guard to raise arms against the federal government,' Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said at a news conference last year. Mohn had a USB device containing photos of federal buildings and apparent instructions for making explosives when arrested, authorities have said. He also had expressed violent anti-government rhetoric in writings he published online, and the YouTube video included rants about the government, immigration and the border, fiscal policy, urban crime and the war in Ukraine. Mohn's defense attorney, Steven M. Jones, said last week he did not anticipate the case being resolved with a plea deal. Michael Mohn, who was 68, had been an engineer with the geoenvironmental section of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In the video, Justin Mohn described his father as a 20-year federal employee and called him a traitor. During a competency hearing last year, a defense expert said Mohn wrote a letter to Russia's ambassador to the United States seeking a deal to give Mohn refuge and apologizing to President Vladimir Putin for claiming to be the czar of Russia.

Two-time champ Pete Alonso, Kyle Schwarber decline HR Derby invites
July 7 - Two-time champion Pete Alonso of the New York Mets said Sunday that he will not be participating in the Home Run Derby this year in Atlanta. Alonso won the popular event that is held one day before the All-Star Game in 2019 and 2021. He had been a participant in each of the last five times the event was held. "I just decided not to do it this year," Alonso told reporters on Sunday of the July 14 event. "I have never really fully enjoyed the three off-days, so I just want to be in the best possible position to help this team win in the second half. "I'm in a groove with certain things. I definitely will do it again. It doesn't mean no forever. Alonso was chosen to play in the All-Star Game for the fifth time. He is batting .287 with 20 homers and 73 RBIs in 91 games. Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber also said Sunday that he won't be part of the derby. He participated in 2018 and 2022. It's a good bet Schwarber will strongly consider being part of the competition next year when the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby are held in Philadelphia. "I'm not going to do the Home Run Derby," Schwarber said Sunday of the 2025 event. "Maybe see what happens next year." Schwarber was named to the All-Star team for the third time in his career on Sunday. He is batting .251 with 27 homers and 63 RBIs in 90 games. Other players expected to pass on the event are Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers. There are just three confirmed participants with the Home Run Derby being held a week from Monday -- Seattle Mariners star Cal Raleigh (35 homers), emerging Washington Nationals slugger James Wood (23) and Atlanta Braves standout Ronald Acuna Jr., who has nine homers in 40 games since missing nearly 12 months due to an ACL injury. --Field Level Media

Angel Reese makes WNBA history despite Chicago Sky's latest defeat
WNBA star Angel Reese has become known for her dominance in the paint and, on Sunday, wrote herself into the record books for that exact reason. Reese took to the court for the Chicago Sky's game against the Minnesota Lynx but was unable to prevent an 80-75 loss to kick-start their four-game road trip. The defeat saw the Sky's record drop to 5-12 in the 2025 season despite the best efforts of Reese, 23, who scored 16 points in 37 minutes. Reese also produced an impressive 17 rebounds in the game and, by doing so, broke WNBA records. The Sky star became the first player in league history to get 15 or more rebounds in five straight games. She also did so against Atlanta Dream, Golden State Valkyries and twice against the Los Angeles Sparks. In three out of those five games, Reese managed to produce more rebounds that points - proving her dominance inside the paint. Reese has now recorded 15 or more rebounds in her last five consecutive games Last month, Reese filed to trademark the term 'Mebounds' - term stemming from her habit of missing layups and snagging the offensive rebound. However, almost immediately after doing so, it appeared as though Reese's trademark filing had severely backfired after she struggled for the Sky. During the Sky's devastating 107-86 loss to the Phoenix Mercury at the back end of June, Reese managed just nine points, two assists and a mere two rebounds. The forward's meagre tally marked a career-low in rebounds for the LSU product. However, Reese has evidently put that evening behind her and has rediscovered her best form for the Sky. Her displays on the court has seen Reese be named in her second All-Star Game but only as a reserve - after failing to receive enough votes to be a starter. Only time will tell as to which All-Star captain - either Caitlin Clark or Napheesa Collier - will select Reese for the highly-anticipated game. In May, Reese had to be restrained after Clark knocked her down and caused her to spill the ball moments after she grabbed an offensive rebound near the end of the third quarter. Reese then walked to the side of the court where a Sky official stepped in front of her to try and get her to cool her temper.
