Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka HC restrains police from arresting RCB official, three others

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday restrained Bengaluru Police from arresting or taking any coercive action against officials of Royal Challengers Bengaluru or event management company DNA in the case linked to the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bar and Bench reported.
The decision follows the High Court's June 12 ruling, which declared as ' illegal ' the arrest of Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks' Sunil Mathew, Kiran Kumar S and Shamant NP Mavinakere.
The court had also granted them interim bail.
They were arrested after eleven persons were killed and more than 50 were injured on June 4 in the stampede near the stadium, where fans had gathered to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the Indian Premier League.
Justice SR Krishna Kumar on Tuesday ordered the petitioners to cooperate with the investigation. He added that this arrangement will remain in effect until the next hearing on July 8.
The four persons were arrested hours after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the state government had ordered the arrest of representatives from the Karnataka State Cricket Association, DNA Entertainment Networks and Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the stampede.

I am forever grateful for the love and affection you have shown me – for sharing in my happiness and standing as my strength during times of hardship. On Thursday, Thoogudeepa and six others were arrested after the Supreme Court cancelled the bail granted by the Karnataka High Court. Thoogudeepa was earlier arrested on June 11 last year, along with Pavithra Gowda and 15 others, in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga. Renukaswamy was allegedly murdered for sending objectionable messages to Pavithra Gowda on Instagram. His body was discovered near a stormwater drain close to an apartment complex in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru, on June 9, 2024. Thoogudeepa was arrested while shooting for The Devil in Mysuru. He was released from prison on October 30 on interim bail after spending 131 days in jail. On December 13, the Karnataka High Court granted regular bail to Thoogudeepa and Pavithra Gowda. The state government had approached the Supreme Court challenging the bail. The state government had challenged the bail petition and the Supreme Court denied him relief. According to a source, the movie is presently in the post-production stage and was scheduled to be released in October. On August 15, the filmmakers had planned to release the first song of the movie – Idre Nemdiyaag Irbek (If You Live, Live Peacefully). However, following the arrest of Thoogudeepa, the release was postponed.

Agencies The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre to respond to its query on whether social media platform X Corp. ought to be unexceptionally part of the Sahyog portal in cases involving human trafficking, child trafficking and national security-related issues. The court has asked the Centre to file its reply by September 10, addressing specifically this issue as well as a plea moved by X Corp., formerly known as Twitter, seeking discharge from the proceedings of a case and placing its opposition to come on board the Sahyog portal, which is managed by the home ministry's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (IC4). Sahyog, the government says, was developed to automate the process of sending notices to intermediaries by the appropriate government or its agency under the IT Act to facilitate the removal or disabling of access to any information, data or communication link being used to commit an unlawful portal aims to bring together all authorised agencies and intermediaries on one platform to ensure immediate action against unlawful online information. The court was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by a woman seeking directions to authorities to produce her 19-year-old son who has been missing since January 10, 2024.
