Hans India4 hours ago
VIJAYAWADA: The Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Haj Committee, SK Hasan Basha, has urged Haj pilgrims to make full use of the Vijayawada Embarkation Point this year.
He expressed gratitude to the State leadership for their commitment to the welfare of pilgrims and to retain embarkation point at Vijayawada. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Sk Hasan Basha said as promised in the election manifesto, the State government is providing Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to each Hajj pilgrim and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu successfully secured Vijayawada as an official embarkation point for Haj.
He said Haj pilgrims traveling this year are encouraged to choose Vijayawada as their departure point to ensure the continuation of these services in future.
He said the coalition government has taken significant steps to improve facilities for pilgrims, correcting previous shortcomings. The Chairman thanked CM Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Education Minister Nara Lokesh for their active support.
Hasan Basha stated that the Central Haj Committee has allotted 2,550 slots for Andhra Pradesh pilgrims this year. He recalled that last year, 72 pilgrims from Vijayawada received Rs 1 lakh each from the coalition government, which was widely appreciated. He said in order to retain the embarkation point in Vijayawada in future, a large number of pilgrims must depart from Vijayawada Airport only. So far, over 1,900 pilgrims have already applied through Vijayawada, and a request has been submitted to the Central Haj Committee to extend the application deadline, which ends on August 7, he added.
Hasan Basha also noted that previously, most pilgrims travelled via Hyderabad and Bengaluru, but this year, the Haj Committee has actively promoted Vijayawada to increase awareness and participation.

Tourism Minister meets investors on theme parks, eco projects; launches ‘O Prema' film poster

VIJAYAWADA: Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh met several investors at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Wednesday to discuss potential tourism projects in the state. Tourism Special Chief Secretary Ajay Jain participated in the meeting, reviewing proposals aimed at boosting the state's tourism sector. Representatives of Pangaea presented a plan to establish a theme park in the State, similar to those in Europe and Hong Kong, with an estimated investment of Rs 30-35 crore. The proposed park, to be set up on five acres, would include a wellness center and attractions inspired by Indian culture. Another proposal came from Ram Dev Rao, Chairman of Xperience, who suggested developing an eco-friendly park in Amaravati or near a beach, modeled after a project in Hyderabad. The park would feature a botanical garden and offer visitors a nature-based experience. Discussions were also held on setting up wellness centers and 50 tent cities in Araku, Lambasingi, Maredumilli, and Visakhapatnam, offering luxurious accommodation comparable to five-star hotels to attract high-end tourists. Durgesh also met AP Language and Culture Department Director Regulla Mallikarjuna Rao, who briefed him on the upcoming Har Ghar Tiranga program, aimed at encouraging citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes and foster patriotism ahead of Independence Day celebrations. DJB's outreach camps address water and sewer issues at 40 locations

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Tuesday organised public outreach camps at 40 different locations across the national capital to address a range of water and sewer-related issues. According to officials, the camps were part of the DJB's revenue department initiative aimed at improving citizen services and resolving long-pending grievances. Services offered at the camps included approval of new water and sewer connections, transfer of names on water connections, disconnection or reactivation of supply and resolution of billing complaints. Citizens were also able to submit requests for meter replacement, update their mobile numbers, view outstanding dues, obtain payment receipts and get their bills generated on the spot. Regional revenue officers were present at each location to supervise operations and respond to queries. 'The camps witnessed heavy footfall, with residents turning up in large numbers to get their concerns addressed without having to visit the DJB offices,' an official said. The board has announced that similar outreach camps will be held every Tuesday throughout the month of August at various locations in Delhi, aiming to make water and sewer services more accessible and efficient for the public. The Delhi government is also preparing to waive 100% of the late payment surcharge on pending domestic water bills. The move comes amid rising public anger over alleged inflated billing and growing unpaid dues, which have crossed Rs 1.42 lakh crore. Water Minister Parvesh Verma had announced last month that the scheme, limited to residential consumers, will be launched once the billing software is upgraded. Dues from commercial users and government departments will not be covered at this stage. Officials said the initiative aims to rebuild public trust and encourage defaulters to settle bills.

Kishan Reddy slams Cong for betraying BCs, pushing Telangana into debt

New Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 7 (UNI) Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of betraying Backward Classes (BCs), mismanaging the state's economy, and indulging in diversionary tactics to hide its failures. Speaking to the media in the national capital on Thursday, Kishan Reddy alleged that the Congress party, both before and after coming to power, has consistently deceived the people of Telangana. "They came to power on the back of tall promises — six guarantees and 420 sub-guarantees — all of which remain unfulfilled. Instead, they've taken loans just to repay existing debts, and brought the state to the brink of economic collapse," he said. He criticised the Congress leadership — naming Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi — for what he called empty rhetoric and political theatre. 'After failing to deliver, they are now making meaningless allegations against the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deflect attention from their incompetence,' he remarked. On the issue of BC welfare, Kishan Reddy came down hard on the Congress, accusing the party of making false declarations in the name of various communities. 'They promised Rs 1 lakh crore for BCs, of which Rs 40,000 crore should have been spent by now. But nothing has been done,' he said. Highlighting the government's failure to conduct a comprehensive BC survey, the Union Minister criticised the exclusion of large swathes of Hyderabad. 'Calling such an incomplete effort a great survey is shameful. They reduced the BC count and are trying to include religious groups under BC quotas — an injustice to genuine BC communities.' He warned against attempts to create unrest by pushing religious-based reservations. 'Is this the Telangana model? Deceiving BCs and doing politics in the name of religion?' he questioned, adding that in the last GHMC elections, despite 50 BC-reserved seats, 31 were won by non-BCs, raising questions about the fairness of the reservation system. Kishan Reddy compared the Congress's corruption to that of the previous BRS government. 'If KCR turned the state into a private company with wholesale corruption, Congress is indulging in retail corruption,' he said. He also condemned derogatory remarks made by a Telangana woman minister about the President of India, demanding an unconditional apology from Sonia Gandhi. 'This is not just political indecency — it is an insult to every woman in this country.' Kishan Reddy pointed out that Congress has historically wronged the BCs — from ignoring the Kaka Kalelkar and Mandal Commission reports to now attempting to dilute BC reservations. 'The BJP, on the other hand, has given constitutional status to the BC Commission and 27 per cent reservation in higher education,' he added. Targeting Revanth Reddy's recent remarks, he asked, 'You call Modi a converted BC — are you a converted Chief Minister of Congress?' He questioned the Congress's hypocrisy on caste recognition and reservations, reminding that it was Congress that listed Modi's community as BC during its tenure. Ridiculing the Congress's national ambitions, Kishan Reddy said, 'They dream of removing Modi and making Rahul the PM. This is the same Rahul Gandhi under whose leadership the party has lost three consecutive Lok Sabha elections and disappeared from many states.' The Union Minister reiterated that the BJP stands as the only real alternative in Telangana. 'The people are fed up with both BRS and Congress. BJP is committed to BC empowerment, Telangana's development, and maintaining harmony in the state,' he said, warning that the BJP will not stay silent on injustices being done to BCs under the guise of religion or political appeasement.
