Kishan Reddy slams Cong for betraying BCs, pushing Telangana into debt

New Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 7 (UNI) Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of betraying Backward Classes (BCs), mismanaging the state's economy, and indulging in diversionary tactics to hide its failures.
Speaking to the media in the national capital on Thursday, Kishan Reddy alleged that the Congress party, both before and after coming to power, has consistently deceived the people of Telangana.
"They came to power on the back of tall promises — six guarantees and 420 sub-guarantees — all of which remain unfulfilled. Instead, they've taken loans just to repay existing debts, and brought the state to the brink of economic collapse," he said.
He criticised the Congress leadership — naming Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi — for what he called empty rhetoric and political theatre.
'After failing to deliver, they are now making meaningless allegations against the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deflect attention from their incompetence,' he remarked.
On the issue of BC welfare, Kishan Reddy came down hard on the Congress, accusing the party of making false declarations in the name of various communities.
'They promised Rs 1 lakh crore for BCs, of which Rs 40,000 crore should have been spent by now. But nothing has been done,' he said.
Highlighting the government's failure to conduct a comprehensive BC survey, the Union Minister criticised the exclusion of large swathes of Hyderabad.
'Calling such an incomplete effort a great survey is shameful. They reduced the BC count and are trying to include religious groups under BC quotas — an injustice to genuine BC communities.'
He warned against attempts to create unrest by pushing religious-based reservations. 'Is this the Telangana model? Deceiving BCs and doing politics in the name of religion?' he questioned, adding that in the last GHMC elections, despite 50 BC-reserved seats, 31 were won by non-BCs, raising questions about the fairness of the reservation system.
Kishan Reddy compared the Congress's corruption to that of the previous BRS government. 'If KCR turned the state into a private company with wholesale corruption, Congress is indulging in retail corruption,' he said.
He also condemned derogatory remarks made by a Telangana woman minister about the President of India, demanding an unconditional apology from Sonia Gandhi. 'This is not just political indecency — it is an insult to every woman in this country.'
Kishan Reddy pointed out that Congress has historically wronged the BCs — from ignoring the Kaka Kalelkar and Mandal Commission reports to now attempting to dilute BC reservations. 'The BJP, on the other hand, has given constitutional status to the BC Commission and 27 per cent reservation in higher education,' he added.
Targeting Revanth Reddy's recent remarks, he asked, 'You call Modi a converted BC — are you a converted Chief Minister of Congress?' He questioned the Congress's hypocrisy on caste recognition and reservations, reminding that it was Congress that listed Modi's community as BC during its tenure.
Ridiculing the Congress's national ambitions, Kishan Reddy said, 'They dream of removing Modi and making Rahul the PM. This is the same Rahul Gandhi under whose leadership the party has lost three consecutive Lok Sabha elections and disappeared from many states.'
The Union Minister reiterated that the BJP stands as the only real alternative in Telangana. 'The people are fed up with both BRS and Congress. BJP is committed to BC empowerment, Telangana's development, and maintaining harmony in the state,' he said, warning that the BJP will not stay silent on injustices being done to BCs under the guise of religion or political appeasement.

BRS blames Congress, BJP for urea shortage in Telangana

HYDERABAD Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy has said farmers in the State are facing a serious crisis of urea shortage at a time when cultivation of Kharif crops has gained pace with rains over the last two weeks, as the State and Central governments are speaking in different tones on the issue. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said despite having eight MPs in Lok Sabha from Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was unable to supply urea in time. Instead of speaking on the Congress government, the BJP leaders were biding time on speaking against BRS and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay was unable to see the poor water level in Lower Manair Dam. However, the Congress government was not willing to switch on the Kannepally pump house to give water to the rain-deficit areas while huge quantities of water was flowing down BJP was also not interested in building pressure on the government to do so. The sole objective the two parties appears be defaming BRS come what may, he observed. While the Congress government was planning to harass its political opponents with the help of Kaleshwaram Commission report, the bickering in BJP had forced the party leadership to include Eatala Rajender's name in it, Mr. Venkata Ramana Reddy said and added that the two parties were making Kaleshwaram project defunct in the name of NDSA report. He also criticised the Congress government for its lack of sincerity in implementing 42% reservation to backward classes.

Pakistan: Rights group accuses authorities of conducting surveillance, harassing Baloch protesters in Islamabad

The Baloch families sit-in in Islamabad demanding the release of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders and an end to enforced disappearances in Pakistan's Balochistan continued for the 26th consecutive day on Sunday even as the BYC accused the Pakistani authorities of maintaining road blocks, conducting surveillance and harassing protesters instead of addressing their legitimate demands. According to the BYC, Baloch protesters, including elderly women and young children, continued to stay on the roadside without shelter amid scorching heat as authorities did not allow them to set up a camp. The protesters held the banner with the message "Stop Collective Punishment" and "Release BYC leaders." The banners also featured pictures of BYC leaders, including Mahrang Baloch. In a statement shared on X, BYC stated: "Today marks the 26th consecutive day of the Baloch families' sit-in in Islamabad, held to demand the release of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders and an end to enforced disappearances in Balochistan. Amidst scorching heat, these families including elderly women and young children remain on the roadside without shelter, as authorities continue to deny them the right to set up a camp." "The road to the Islamabad Press Club remains sealed, cutting them off from the space traditionally meant for victims to raise their voices. Instead of addressing their legitimate demands, Pakistani authorities maintain road blockades, conduct surveillance, and harass participants," it added. On August 8, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) expressed grave concern over the escalating human rights crisis and deteriorating state of fundamental rights and civic freedoms in Balochistan. A report of the fact-finding mission of HRCP titled 'Balochistan's Crisis of Trust' revealed a disturbing pattern of continued enforced disappearances, shrinking civic space, erosion of provincial autonomy, and unchecked impunity - conditions that continue to fuel public alienation and political instability in the province. "Enforced disappearances emerged as the most urgent and widespread human rights concern during the mission. Testimonies from political leaders, civil society actors, and law enforcement officials collectively point to the scale, impunity, and evolving character of this practice. Accounts suggest that the phenomenon, far from being isolated or exceptional, has become systematic, thereby undermining the rule of law and severely eroding public trust in state institutions," the HRCP report read. The rights body also called for independent investigations into alleged reprisals against those who speak up against enforced disappearances. The mission noted that "while militant attacks targeting ordinary citizens, including non-Baloch settlers, are indefensible and must be prosecuted, the passage of the Anti-Terrorism (Balochistan Amendment) Act 2025 is deeply problematic". It mentioned that "the law permits 90-day detentions without meaningful judicial oversight, raising concerns about the potential for torture and abuse". The mission urged the Pakistani government to withdraw the Act and instead ensure that all counterterrorism efforts comply with the country's human rights obligations. According to the report, electoral manipulation and the political sidelining of nationalist parties have severely undermined public trust in democratic processes in Balochistan.

Gurugram land deal: ED seeks 7-year rigorous imprisonment for Robert Vadra

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought a maximum of seven years of rigorous imprisonment for Robert Vadra and others in the tainted 2008 Gurugram land deal, shows the prosecution complaint filed by the probe agency at a Special PMLA court in Delhi. The probe agency has also sought confiscation by the government of 43 immovable properties allegedly acquired by Vadra and others using proceeds of crime (PoC) generated through money laundering. The Special PMLA court in Delhi has fixed August 28 to take cognisance of the ED complaint and issued a notice to Vadra. While elaborating on the mode of generation of PoC of money laundering by Robert Vadra in the land deal, the ED alleged in the complaint that the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other accused also committed a penal offence of dishonest or fraudulent execution of a deed of transfer containing false statements (Section 423 of Indian Penal Code). In its prosecution complaint filed in a Special PMLA court in Delhi, the ED sought a maximum of seven years imprisonment for Vadra and other accused under Section 4 (Punishment for money laundering) and suggested penal or criminal action for the fraudulent execution of the deed. 'The transfer deed was executed containing a false statement of consideration with regards to receipt of sale consideration by the seller from the buyer and with regards to the total amount of consideration as well, thereby violating the provisions of section 423 of IPC. The buyer had never issued the cheque to the seller and the cheque mentioned in the sale deed did not pertain to the buyer,' said the chargesheet. Alleging a loss of Rs 44 lakh caused to Haryana government in stamp duty, the ED said: 'The sale deed refers the valuation of the said land at Rs 7.50 crore, on the contrary the seller got the payment of Rs 7.95 crore on August 9, 2008 (against sale consideration and stamp duty); and Rs 7.43 crore on August 16, 2008 (additional sale consideration). The undervaluation of the land directly leads to evasion of stamp duty.' Earlier, the ED justified its decision to file the PMLA case in the Special Court in Delhi by claiming that all the accused, except one, reside in Delhi and all the entities associated with the accused, which are involved in the process of money laundering, are registered in the Delhi jurisdiction. It is submitted that the FIR in this case was filed by the Gurugram Police. However, the offence of money laundering was committed by the accused at various places/states including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan. 'Further, most of the bank accounts of the entities associated with Vadra, identified as accused number 1, are also situated in Delhi and used by the accused in Delhi to acquire assets or to satisfy the liabilities of companies registered in Delhi,' it said. The ED said that Vadra received Rs 58 crore as proceeds of crime (PoC) of the involved money laundering and claimed that its investigation led to the provisional attachment of 43 immovable properties, totalling Rs 38.69 crore, identified as direct or value equivalent to Proceeds of Crime. Seeking confiscation of the 43 immovable properties, the ED said: 'The complaint is filed with the prayer to punish the accused persons under Section 4 (Punishment for money laundering,) which is a rigorous imprisonment for three to seven years and confiscation by the government of the properties earned by the accused as proceeds of crime.'
