USMNT defender Sergino Dest scored the winning goal in PSV's Dutch Super Cup victory over Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday.
PSV headed into half-time at the Philips Stadiion 1-0 down thanks to a goal from Mathis Suray. However, late into the second half of the game, an own goal from Gerrit Nauber gave the Eredivisie champions a way back into the game.

Dest scored the winner in the 84th minute when he found space in the penalty area and angled a shot with his weaker left foot into the far corner.
The 24-year-old's goal helped the PSV win their 15th Dutch Super Cup (Johan Cruijff Shield).

The defender's 2024/25 campaign was disrupted by an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury suffered in April 2024. That injury kept him out of action for 11 months, and he made his first appearance after the layoff in March.
Dest made just seven appearances in all competitions last season as PSV won their second consecutive Eredivisie title. The defender last represented the USMNT in the CONCACAF Nations League final victory over Mexico in March 2024.
PSV begin their 2025/26 Eredivisie campaign against Sparta Rotterdam on August 9.

North Carolina Courage terminates head coach Sean Nahas' contract ‘effective immediately'

The North Carolina Courage announced Wednesday evening that the club has terminated the contract of head coach Sean Nahas 'effective immediately,' according to the club's press release issued at 7:45 p.m. ET. 'The North Carolina Courage remain focused on the continued development of the team and maintaining a professional, competitive environment for players, staff, and supporters,' the statement concluded. Nahas was hired as an assistant coach in 2017 and promoted to interim head coach in September 2021 following the firing of then-manager Paul Riley after several former players alleged he committed acts of sexual misconduct. On Dec. 1, 2022, the Courage announced that they had hired him as full-time head coach. A representative of the Courage, when reached by The Athletic, declined to comment further on the club's decision to terminate Nahas's contract. On June 8, the Courage posted in a statement on X that Nahas would not be with the team for their match that day against the Washington Spirit, citing 'unforeseen medical reasons.' Nahas was most recently seen with the Courage this past Saturday, Aug. 2 in the team's home match against the San Diego Wave, which ended in a scoreless draw. Nahas had also posted earlier on Wednesday evening on his personal Instagram account about the North Carolina technical staff and players training through poor weather on Wednesday. Nahas was instrumental in signing 20-year-old U.S. women's national team attacking midfielder Jaedyn Shaw, who joined the team on Jan. 14. The Courage currently sit just outside of NWSL playoff contention in ninth place. Through his tenure as interim and permanent head coach since October 2021, Nahas had a 15-9-12 record with the Courage. This article originally appeared in The Athletic. Joan Laporta reveals dream 2025-26 Champions League opponent for Barcelona

Last season, Barcelona came close to winning a quadruple, but they fell short in the Champions League after losing to Inter in the semi-finals. Hansi Flick's side were won of the best in Europe, but in the end, that honour went to Luis Enrique's all-conquering PSG squad. Had Barcelona beaten Inter, they would have faced PSG in the Champions League final, which was a match that many fans had anticipated. In the end, it was not to be, but there is a chance that the two teams could face each other in the 2025-26 tournament. And that's exactly what Joan Laporta wants, as he told CNN (via MD). 'We didn't play the final against PSG, I hope that with the new format we will cross paths this year. I think PSG did very well last season, they won the Champions League, Ligue 1… They played good football. They have a good coach and a good team and players. Unfortunately, we didn't play against them. But everyone who likes football says that we were the two most competitive teams, in the best shape and that we played the best football in the world last season. Let's see if we can measure ourselves in this one, to see which of the two is better, with respect for the rest of the clubs. Maybe this year another team will appear…' Nuno Mendes in action for PSG vs Arsenal (Image via) Laporta gives approval to new Champions League format Laporta also gave his thoughts on the format of the Champions League, which features a league phase rather than groups. He admitted that he is a fan of the changes made by UEFA. 'I congratulate president Ceferin for how the competition has improved. He knows football and enjoys it and I'm sure he'll like to watch a match between Barcelona and PSG. I hope we have that opportunity next season.'

Man United duo lined up by Inter Milan in case their priority deal falls through

Manchester United are edging closer to their third big-money signing of the summer, but INEOS have not been as successful when it comes to offloading their players. Benjamin Sesko seems to be heading to Old Trafford, but with Ruben Amorim needing another midfielder and a goalkeeper, player sales are necessary to fund those moves. Marcus Rashford has been the only member of the 'bomb squad' to depart, with Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia yet to agree exits. Sancho has proven to be tough to move on, with talks with Juventus stalling. Former club Borussia Dortmund also re-entered the race, but his inconsistent form and wage demands have meant a move has not materialised. Sancho, Garnacho set to leave As for the Argentine, he seems to be hellbent on moving to Chelsea, and as a result, he has already rejected moves to the Bundesliga and the Saudi Pro League. However, all this has not dissuaded Inter Milan, who have their eyes on both United wide men. As per the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, the Nerazzurri are focussed on trying to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta. They have already seen a couple of bids get rejected. But as per the report, they will wait for 10 days for the Bergamo-based side to change their minds. If not, Inter will move on to other targets, which includes the United duo. Inter have both on their list 'Inter will wait for Lookman for a few more days: as mentioned, the player is not in Bergamo and has not shown up for training. As things stand, Inter will wait a week (10 days at most). 'If the move fails, Inter will start looking at other options: Sancho, Nkuku, Nusa and Garnacho are on the list. Nico Gonzalez is off the list.' The report does not mention the type of deal the Milan-side will offer. INEOS want permanent solutions for every player. Garnacho is earmarked for the biggest sale for the Red Devils, while Sancho might leave on another loan but with an obligation or option to buy at least.
