Conor Benn gives damning Chris Eubank Jr rematch verdict amid fight delay
Conor Benn is ready to step back into the ring, even if his next fight is not a rematch with long-time rival Chris Eubank Jr.
The duo had a heated encounter in April after years of trading barbs online. Both fighters put on a 'Fight of the Year' performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London, with Eubank Jr going on to hand Benn his first professional defeat.
It appeared likely that the pair would face off again immediately on September 20. However, Eubank Jr recently disclosed his preference for the rematch to occur in November. After the September clash was postponed, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn pointed the finger at Eubank Jr for withdrawing from the scheduled date.
Despite being accused of backing out, Eubank Jr maintains he needs more time to train for the rematch, confirming his plans to Turki Alalshikh. Yet, Benn is not inclined to wait and is even prepared to progress his career as he aims to secure a world championship at 147lb, reports All Out Fighting.
Speaking at BoxFest, when asked about his thoughts on Riyadh Season pulling out of the sequel, Benn responded: "Who's next? Get me that WBC world title. Get me any world title. Give me Rolly (Romero), give me Ryan Garcia, give me Devin Haney, give me Shakur Stevenson.
"So I'll see. See you later Eubank, I want to get back down to 147lb and win those world titles. But most of all, give you guys (the fans) the fights that you guys want. That is what I want to do." He added: "I want to be active. I am willing to go again. Just give me the date. Let me go. Whoever it is. Genuinely, I do not care who it is. I am ready for any of them."
It is fair to say the initial clash surpassed all predictions, with Benn himself taking pride in being part of boxing history in north London. "I loved every minute of it. For me, it was... it lived up to what we said we were going to do. For me, it was my moment to show 'if you want to go, we can have it,'" he said.
The lead-up to the explosive encounter was overshadowed by drama. Eubank Jr shocked the boxing world when he smacked Benn across the face with an egg during their initial confrontation. He was subsequently hit with a £100,000 penalty for the Manchester incident. When questioned about the dramatics, Benn acknowledges his opponent rattled him and reveals he will never be mates with 'Next Gen'.
"He got under my skin for sure. But I think he has that ability to get under anyone's skin," he said. "Did I like him before the fight? No. Did I like him after the fight? No. Do I like him now? No. And I probably never will. But, it takes two to tango, so I respect Chris for bringing that out of me."
Benn was later asked if he believes his rematch with Eubank Jr will be the next fight, and the 'Destroyer' opened up about the difficulties in negotiating with Eubank Jr's team. "I was ready for September 20th," he disclosed. "I was back in the gym the Monday after the fight. So, we were both told it would be September 20th and it has been a miscommunication on their part as to why now it is not September 20th. If anyone can make the fight happen, if you guys want the fight, Turki Alalshikh will make it happen because he (Eubank Jr) and his team were difficult to deal with."

As previously mentioned, Benn was scheduled to face Eubank Jr for a second time in September. However, due to the delay, it remains uncertain whether the immediate rematch will occur despite agreeing to two fights at middleweight.
Benn insists he does not want to wait for his rival and will move on from the clash to return to welterweight and aim for a world title. He stated: ''I'm not waiting. I'm not waiting around. I feel like my career has sort of been on hold to give the fans this fight, and I'm glad that the fight delivered, but now I've got to just tick the box off on my personal goals, which is winning a WBC world title. It's either [moving back down to] 147lbs for me or the rematch. I'm ready to honour my side of the agreement, which was a two-fight deal [at middleweight] and it's safe to say he's scared. He almost lost. It could have gone either way. To a welterweight."

Makhachev is still at the top of his game - but his coach and long-time friend Khabib Nurmagomedov believes the former lightweight champion has a few years left in the sport Khabib Nurmagomedov has predicted that Islam Makhachev, may only have two years left in the sport, revealing a surprising timeline for the UFC star. Makhachev has been a formidable presence in the UFC since his debut in 2015. He achieved his dream of becoming a world champion in 2022 when he defeated Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The Dagestani powerhouse successfully defended his title four times, taking down Alexander Volkanovski twice, Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano. Earlier this year, after defeating Moicano, Makhachev shocked the MMA world by announcing his decision to vacate the lightweight title to move up to welterweight. We do some program and like slowly, slowly we bring some, maybe 2kg [roughly 4.4lb] right now and it's very hard but I don't want to be big by food, eating and not training. Ilia Topuria faces ultimatum from rival ahead of potential UFC title clash
The Georgian-Spanish fighter won the lightweight title in June but has since faced calls to give up the title after brutally dismissing a top contender Ilia Topuria has been savagely told by Arman Tsarukyan to "give up the belt" after the lightweight champion snubbed the top contender. 'El Matador' stepped up to lightweight earlier this year and was instantly granted a crack at the vacant title after Islam Makhachev chose to relinquish the strap. The 28-year-old faced Charles Oliveira in the main event at UFC 317 back in June. The Georgian-Spanish fighter would go on to become a two-division champion after he flattened Oliveira inside the opening round. The drama didn't end there as Topuria's rival Paddy Pimblett was ringside for the event and instantly charged into the octagon. The pair then traded verbal blows before Topuria then pushed the Liverpudlian. It appeared like a bout between the two bitter enemies would be next, but UFC legend Chael Sonnen claimed that the promotion has different plans - and that Tsarukyan would be next for the champion, reports All Out Fighting. Nevertheless, Sonnen's remarks came just days after Topuria dismissed Tsarukyan and insists he would surrender the title if compelled to fight the Armenian. "If I'm the world champion, I'm never going to give him a chance," Topuria said on the Nelk Boys YouTube channel. "I will be like, 'Listen if that's the case, take my belt. I don't do it.'" The Armenian has been left furious by the champion's remarks and has since demanded the former featherweight king to surrender the title. During a press conference in Los Angeles, Tsarukyan responded to Topuria's recent comments. "If he feels he's going to lose that fight, it's better to give up the belt and go up, or wait for what happens with me," he retorted. "He knows I'm a big problem for him, and I'm going to get his title. He knows that, and he wants to get an easy fight with Paddy, Gaethje, or somebody [else]. Just make money and don't defend. But with me? It's going to be hard for him. "I already told them I'm ready in September, October, I train twice a day and I'm healthy now," Tsarukyan added. Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Bisping questioned: "Is Ilia Topuria pulling a Jon Jones? Because Arman Tsarukyan is a real threat to anybody, he is a tremendous fighter." He went on to commend Tsarukyan's abilities, stating: "I know a lot of people discredit him for pulling out at the last minute, and rightly so, that's not a good look. However, he's a really, really good fighter, simple as that. He can do it all. He's got the striking, the wrestling, the cardio, the strength. He's very young, he's in his prime. The man's an absolute monster. Ilia Topuria said if the UFC made him fight Arman Tsarukyan, he would vacate the belt." Bisping continued: "He wants nothing to do with Arman Tsarukyan. So now Arman Tsarukyan's out there, he's making videos of little ducks. He's doing a Tom Aspinall, taking a duck wherever he went with him. Remember that whole saga with Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall? But now we've got a new version. Now it's Ilia Topuria and Arman Tsarukyan. Arman Tsarukyan's even making a bet, offering him $500,000, half a million bucks if he beats him. "Third belt is a matter of time. For now, we've given our word to the UFC that we will stay at lightweight," Orzel said. "We're waiting to see who comes up as the natural contender. We'd like to fight again this year. Gaethje is the closest, time will tell if it's him."
