International Yoga Day: Army conducts Yoga session at world's highest battlefield
Highlighting the theme of 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' in a post on X, the Army wrote, 'On the 11th International Day of Yoga IDY 2025, Indian Army conducted Yoga sessions from the world's highest battlefield Siachen to all the terrains & climatic conditions through the expanse of the country. IDY2025 witnessed enthusiastic participation from Serving Soldiers, Veterans, Families, Children & Civilians embracing 'Yoga as a Way of Life'.'

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also participated in the 11th International Yoga Day with with 2,500 personnel at Army's Northern Command in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur, describing Yoga is a vital instrument for inner strength and composure, commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for globalising its reach, and emphasised its relevance in enhancing clarity and discipline--especially during operations like Operation Sindoor, according to the Defence Ministry.
The Defence Minister also highlighted that Yoga is not merely a wellness activity, but a strategic discipline that strengthens both body and mind.
Earlier, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) performed yoga on the banks of Pangong Tso at Border Outposts (BOPs) Dhan Singh Thapa and Chartse, located at 14,100-14,200 feet above sea level.
The 54th Battalion of ITBP performed yoga in the lead up to International Yoga Day. Sharing the visuals on X, ITBP wrote, '54 Bn #ITBP organised a yoga session as a prelude to International Yoga Day 2025. Himveers participated with zeal, reinforcing the spirit of wellness and discipline.'
4th Corps of ITBP, Dirang (Arunachal Pradesh) organised yoga sessions at an altitude above 12000 feet. Sharing on X, ITBP wrote, '4th Corps #ITBP, Dirang (Arunachal Pradesh) organised yoga sessions and cleanliness drives at the Corps Headquarters and forward posts at altitudes above 12000 feet.'
The Indian Coast Guard officials united at Visakhapatnam to celebrate International Yoga Day, and the CG Ship Rani Abbakka practised yoga on Tamil Nadu's sacred shores. The Indian Navy too participated in the Yoga Day celebrations organised by PM Modi in Vishakapatnam.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister was joined by Union Minister of State (IC) Ayush, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in a massive demonstration of India's global wellness vision.
The Prime Minister called upon countries to adopt yoga not just as a personal or cultural practice, but as a unifying force for humanity.
'I would like to take this opportunity to urge the global community on this important occasion to let this International Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for Humanity. Let this be the day when inner peace becomes a global policy, where yoga is embraced not just as a personal practice, but as a powerful tool for global partnership and unity,' PM Modi said.
The event was held along the scenic Visakhapatnam coastline, with Indian Navy ships stationed near the shore, adding to the grandeur of the celebration.
PM Modi was joined by lakhs of yoga enthusiasts, residents, and dignitaries from Andhra Pradesh. (ANI)

India achieves 100 GW solar PV module capacity under ALMM: MNRE
India's empanelled solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) has touched 100 gigawatts (GW), the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said on Wednesday. The 100 GW solar module capacity developed is fully listed under the government's ALMM, which specifies the solar PV modules and manufacturers eligible for use in government and government-assisted solar projects. It ensures that only quality-assured and compliant modules are used, thereby promoting reliability and performance in the country's solar energy sector. The ALMM order was issued by the MNRE in January 2019, and the first list of approved solar PV modules was published in March 2021 with an initial empanelled capacity of around 8.2 GW. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), described the development as 'yet another milestone towards self-reliance.' He said, 'It depicts the success of India's manufacturing capabilities and our efforts towards popularising clean energy.' Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi echoed the sentiment on the same platform, highlighting the growth in solar PV manufacturing capacity from just 2.3 GW in 2014 to 100 GW in 2025. He added that India is building a robust, self-reliant solar manufacturing ecosystem, supported by transformative initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for high-efficiency solar modules. "This achievement strengthens our path towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and the target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030," Joshi said. The MNRE said the milestone reflects not just the depth of capacity achieved, but also the breadth of participation in the sector. The number of manufacturers listed under ALMM has increased significantly from 21 in 2021 to 100 currently, who are operating 123 manufacturing units across the country. This growth includes contributions from both established companies and new entrants, many of whom have adopted high-efficiency technologies and vertically integrated operations. The result, the ministry said, is a diverse and competitive manufacturing landscape capable of fulfilling domestic demand and serving global markets. India achieving 100 GW of solar PV module manufacturing capacity is a significant step towards building a diversified solar supply chain, said Rishabh Jain, Senior Programme Lead at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). "However, this is currently four times India's annual deployment of solar power. To ensure the continuous growth of the sector, Indian manufacturers should actively supply to new markets and reduce their dependency on the US. Simultaneously, Indian manufacturers should double down on R&D to competitively manufacture next-generation materials and components in India,' Jain said.

India to celebrate 79th Independence Day on 15 August: 5 countries that share the same historic date
India is all set to celebrate the 79th Independence Day on Friday this year. On this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unfurl the national flag at Red Fort in New Delhi. It will be PM Modi's 12th consecutive address to the country, and his second since returning to power for the third consecutive term. India attained Independence from the British colonial rule on 15 August 1947 after over two centuries, in which several revolutionaries laid their live for the freedom of the country. Among the few revolutionaries include Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sukhdev, Rajguru and others. However, India is not the only country to celebrate its independence on 15 August. Both North and South Korea celebrate 15 August as 'Gwangbokjeol' or Liberation Day. It is the day in 1945 when the Japanese occupation came to an end after 35 years. On 15 August 1971, Bahrain declared independence from Britain after a United Nations survey confirmed the will of it people. But they don't celebrate independence on this day, and they do it on 16 December as they mark it with late Emir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa's ascension to the throne, reported Economic Times. One part of French Equatorial Africa, the Republic of Congo gained independence from France on 15 August 1960. For Liechtenstein, 15 August is not an independence day, but they celebrate it as the official National Day. The National Day was chosen in 1940 by combining two events: the Feast of the Assumption of Mary (a major Catholic holiday) and Prince Franz Josef II's birthday. On this day, citizens gather in the capital, Vaduz, to attend festivities near the royal castle.
