Man held for deliberately ramming, dragging scooter
1 2 3 4 5 LUCKNOW: An inebriated 39-year-old man deliberately rammed into a scooter and dragged it for nearly a kilometre in Sushant Golf City on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Shrikant Rajput, was arrested and sent to judicial custody, while his Maruti Baleno (HR26EP4884) was seized. The incident, which occurred around 2am on the intervening night of May 25–26, came to light after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media. According to police, the accused and the complainant, Achintya Mishra, were known to each other, and the act stemmed from a personal altercation. "The attack was deliberate," said DCP South Zone Nipun Agarwal. Mishra was riding home on his scooter when Rajput, allegedly intoxicated, attempted a reckless overtake. Upon being confronted, Rajput assaulted Mishra and issued threats. Mishra called emergency services (Dial 112), prompting Rajput to flee. However, he returned shortly afterward and, in a fit of rage, rammed into the parked scooter and dragged it for nearly a kilometre. Fortunately, Mishra was not on the vehicle at the time of impact, he said. The police registered an FIR under Sections 281 (rash driving), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 324(4) (mischief causing damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). On Tuesday, Rajput was summoned for questioning at the Sushant Golf City Police Station, where he again clashed with Mishra, further reinforcing the existing animosity. "He was subsequently arrested under Section 170 of the BNS for preventive action and remanded to judicial custody," said the DCP.
