76,000 women-led startups across India, including small towns in Bihar: Union Minister Jitendra Singh
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh on Saturday highlighted this achievement, stating that these 1.7 lakh startups, including the 76,000 led by women, are generating over 17 lakh jobs.
'These are not just urban phenomena—Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, including smaller towns in Bihar, are emerging as hotbeds of women-led innovation. This silent revolution is rewriting India's future, led by first-generation women entrepreneurs, researchers, and policy-makers,' Dr Singh said.
He was speaking at a one-day conference titled 'Viksit Bihar: Envisioning a Developed Bihar through Women's Participation' jointly organised by the Department of Rural Development, Government of Bihar, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi, of which Dr Singh is the Co-Chairperson. He stated that India's journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047 would be led by empowered women and youth, in line with Prime Minister Modi's vision under the paradigm of Women-Led Development.
Dr Singh emphasised that over the past 11 years, the Modi government has focused its governance around four pillars—the Poor, Farmers, Youth, and Women.
He remarked, 'Women-centric governance has not only empowered individuals, but reshaped society. What began as targeted welfare has now evolved into institutional leadership."

KDA for Kannada information boards at tourist places, monuments
Chairman of Kannada Development Authority (KDA), Purushottama Bilimale, on Tuesday, said that they are asking district administrations in the State to set up display boards with basic information in Kannada at tourist places and monuments. Addressing the press in Udupi, Mr. Bilimale said that there were many tourist attractions in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts that lacked Kannada information boards highlighting the significance of those places. Many such places had boards only in English, he added. 'Let there be boards in Kannada, English and Hindi,' he said. The KDA addressed the matter in a meeting with Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on December 17, 2024. The Union Minister was apprised of the need to display boards in regional languages, Mr. Bilimale said. Mr. Bilimale said that during his meeting with the district administration in Udupi on Tuesday, he drew the attention of both the tourism department and the Deputy Commissioner to the display of Kannada boards. The Deputy Commissioner was asked to hold meetings with pro-Kannada organisations at least once in two or three months, he said. Kannada Bhavan in Udupi Mr. Bilimale said that Udupi city is likely to get a Kannada Bhavan. It required 11 cents of land to build the bhavan. The proposal to construct the building has been pending for three years. Once the Udupi Urban Development Authority gives its approval, the proposal is likely to be a reality. Constructing the building might cost ₹5 crore, he said. He said that KDA has apprised the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, of the need to post Kannada-speaking staff in bank branches throughout the State. The KDA chairman said that government schools in the State have been instructed to register their land in their names with the RTCs to prevent encroachments. In Udupi district, eight such schools will have to get their RTCs.

Barely weeks later, two top Indian infrastructure firms are looking to outpace Chinese rivals by bidding for some of Croatia's biggest rail and road projects, according to a report by Bloomberg, who were among the first to report the developments. PM Modi's visit has prompted growing interest from Indian firms eyeing big-ticket infrastructure projects in Croatia. In the past week, a leading Indian engineering and construction heavyweight which is known for its work in marine infrastructure, metros, bridges and tunnels has placed three bids for key state-backed railway and highway projects in the EU's newest member, with a combined value of 1.1 billion euros ($1.3 billion). Another Indian conglomerate, based in Nashik and known for its expertise in highway and transport EPC projects, is also competing for the same railway reconstruction contract. New Delhi is a relatively new player in the Balkans, a region where Beijing has long had a strong presence through its Belt and Road infrastructure push. One of the most prominent Chinese-led projects is the 2.4-kilometre Peljesac Bridge, Croatia's largest sea bridge, built by a consortium headed by China Road and Bridge Corporation. Opened in 2022 and largely funded by the European Union, the bridge linked Croatia's coastal regions, bypassing a narrow stretch of Bosnian territory, and gave a significant boost to transport and tourism. As part of the tender process, the Mumbai-based infrastructure player submitted the lowest bid for a major railway reconstruction project floated by HZ Infrastruktura, valued at around 620 million euros. The project, partly funded by the European Union, is among the largest rail ventures in Croatia's recent history. In two other highway construction tenders in southern Croatia, the same firm is competing with a Chinese consortium, placing bids of 240.5 million euros and 214.4 million euros respectively. Shubhanshu Shukla shares BIG health update as astronaut learns to walk days after returning from space
Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station (ISS), has shared a glimpse of his recovery process following his 18-day space mission. In a video posted online, Shukla is seen taking assisted steps and later walking on a treadmill as part of his physical rehabilitation. 'I have received a lot of messages regarding my health and wishing me a speedy recovery,' he wrote in the caption. 'I want to thank you all and also give an update.' Explaining the effects of space travel, Shukla noted that time in orbit impacts the body in several ways — from fluid redistribution and changes in heart rate to a temporary loss of balance and muscle strength. 'These are adaptations to the new environment,' he said. 'Once the body gets used to this and we return to gravity, these adjustments happen once again.' He added that while recovery varies from person to person, the body is quick to respond. 'I was surprised to observe the pace with which our body can adjust to new settings,' he remarked. According to Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Shukla and his three fellow crew members remain in quarantine until July 23, as per standard post-mission procedures. The isolation period allows doctors to monitor their condition and assist them in readapting to Earth's gravity. Experts note that extended stays in space can result in weakened muscles, bone loss and coordination issues, making rehabilitation essential for a smooth return to everyday life. Shukla's journey is being hailed as a milestone for India's space ambitions. During the mission, he completed over 310 orbits of Earth and covered a distance exceeding 13 million kilometres. Shukla, along with three fellow astronauts, safely returned to Earth with a splashdown off the coast of California at 5:31 AM New York time on July 15. The mission marked a significant step for Texas-based company Axiom Space, which aims to collaborate with nations around the world to make space more accessible. The crew had launched into orbit last month aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, which lifted off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. They spent 18 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS) before heading back to Earth.
