70s TV icon wears bold political hat during rare outing with actress wife who famously said 'NO' to Elvis

Daily Mail26-07-2025
Fans were thrilled to catch a rare glimpse of one of Hollywood's most enduring couples out and about in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The M*A*S*H legend, 85, and his wife of over four decades, 81, who got her start on The Donna Reed Show, looked completely smitten as they strolled hand in hand through a sunny Burbank park.
Dressed down in jeans, a crisp white tee, and a cheeky black baseball cap that read 'Make America Normal Again,' the TV icon was a far cry from his days playing the clean-cut army doctor B.J. Hunnicutt in the 1950s-set classic.
Meanwhile, his ageless better half—who also sang 1961's Johnny Angel—turned heads with pastel-pink hair and a David Bowie tee, showing the same youthful energy that made her a teen star and later a sitcom standout on Coach alongside Craig T. Nelson.
Back in the day, she lit up the screen opposite Elvis Presley in Girl Happy, Spinout, and Clambake—and while the King was reportedly smitten, the young starlet, already spoken for, famously turned him down without hesitation.
Still stumped?
If you guessed Mike Farrell and Shelley Fabares—you're spot on!
The adorable couple have been going strong since tying the knot back in 1984.
Before finding lasting love, Farrell was married to Judy Hayden—his college sweetheart and a high school English and drama teacher in Laguna Beach.
They wed in 1963, had two children together, Michael and Erin, but ultimately split in 1980 and finalized their divorce the following year.
Shelley also had a high-profile first marriage, saying 'I do' to music producer Lou Adler in 1964.
Though they separated just two years later, their divorce wasn't finalized until 1980—just in time for both stars to get a second shot at love.
Born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Farrell has carved out a diverse and respected career in Hollywood.
He joined the legendary MASH* during its fourth season, stepping in to replace Wayne Rogers and quickly winning over fans with his portrayal of the empathetic army doctor B.J. Hunnicutt.
Alongside Farrell, the iconic ensemble cast featured Alan Alda as Hawkeye, Loretta Swit as Hot Lips Houlihan, Jamie Farr as Klinger, and many others who helped shape the show's enduring legacy.
After MASH* ended, Farrell continued to build an impressive résumé, appearing in numerous television roles including guest spots on Justice League.
He also stepped behind the camera, producing the acclaimed 1998 film Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams.
Farrell's post-M*A*S*H* career also includes a notable role in the legal drama Providence.
He also became the Vice President of the Screen Actors Guild for a time.
Meanwhile, Fabares rose to fame as a teen star on The Donna Reed Show, quickly becoming a household name in the late 1950s and early '60s.
She made a successful transition to music with the chart-topping hit Johnny Angel before continuing her acting career in both film and television.
In the '80s and '90s, she earned critical acclaim and Emmy nominations for her role as Christine Armstrong on the sitcom Coach.
Early in her career, Shelley starred opposite Elvis in films like Girl Happy and Spinout.
Although Elvis was reportedly smitten, Shelley famously turned down his advances.
She has since explained that while they didn't share a romance, they genuinely cared for each other, and she found it refreshing to be free of any romantic pressure.
'The presence that this man had — you couldn't talk, nobody did anything — you just sort of stopped and watched him,' she once said of the icon. 'He was beautiful and [he had] a charisma that was just amazing.'

Lady Gaga leads 2025 MTV Video Music Awards nominations, followed by Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar

Abracadabra, feel the beat under your feet — Lady Gaga is back on top. The 'Mayhem' musician tops the 2025 the MTV Video Music Award nominations with 12, ending Taylor Swift's two-year run in the top spot. Gaga is up for best collaboration, pop, direction, art direction, cinematography, editing, choreography, visual effects as well as song, video, album and artist of the year. Rounding out the artist of the year category nominees announced Tuesday are Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Morgan Wallen and The Weeknd as well as Beyoncé and Swift. The latter two are especially noteworthy because the two pop powerhouses are tied for the title of most career total VMAs. Each have 30. Beyoncé and Swift are only nominated in the artist of the year category at September's VMAs, so if one of them wins, they will become the most-awarded musician in VMA history. Gaga is followed closely by Bruno Mars, with 11 nominations. Lamar has 10. Sabrina Carpenter and first-time nominee Blackpink's ROSÉ are tied with eight; as are Ariana Grande and The Weeknd with seven. Billie Eilish has six. Charli xcx has five. Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus and Tate McRae boast four each. The top prize of the night, video of the year, sees Gaga and Mars' 'Die With A Smile' go up against Grande's 'Brighter Days Ahead,' Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather,' Lamar's 'Not Like Us,' ROSÉ and Mars' 'APT.', Sabrina Carpenter's 'Manchild,' and The Weeknd, and Playboi Carti's 'Timeless.' The three-hour show will broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific, broadcast live from the UBS Arena just outside New York City. It will also simulcast on MTV and be available to stream on Paramount+. A one-hour, live preshow will air across Paramount Media Networks. CBS is home to a number of award shows, including the Tony Awards and the American Music Awards. It has aired the Grammys since 1973, though that show will head to ABC in 2027. This year's Video Music Awards features 33 first-time nominees, which include Alex Warren, Blake Shelton, Brent Faiyaz, Gigi Perez, KATSEYE and Lainey Wilson. Mac Miller also became the first artist to get their first VMA nomination posthumously. There are also two new categories this year, best country and best pop artist. Fan voting began online Tuesday across 19 gender neutral categories and ends Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. Eastern. Voting in the best new artist category will remain active during the show.

Travis Barker slammed for liking bikini-clad 'thirst trap' pictures of his son's girlfriend

Travis Barker has been slammed for liking a risque Instagram post shared by his son Landon Barker's girlfriend. Skyla Sanders recently shared a photo dump featuring several casual images - including a few alongside 21-year-old Landon - with a simple caption of an anchor emoji. However, what drew attention was the first image in the carousel: a photo of 19-year-old Skyla posing playfully on a bed wearing a skimpy bikini. Skyla and Landon have reportedly been dating for several months and are frequently seen together at public events and on social media. Her account includes numerous photos of the couple, and Landon often comments on and likes her posts. While it is unclear how much personal interaction Travis Barker, 48, has with Skyla, the recent social media engagement was enough to trigger online controversy. After Travis liked the post, some social media users voiced discomfort, with a Reddit thread quickly gaining attention. 'I literally yelled ewww,' one user shared. 'That's not creepy at all…' another sarcastically added. 'This would make me uncomfortable,' someone else wrote, in part, as others branded it as 'gross.' Others, however, defended Barker, arguing that his intention may have been to support his son, who featured in two of the pictures included in the upload. One argued: 'His son is included in the photos on this post. He's comes off more as a parent who just likes whatever his kids/family posts. 'They all like each other's photos. Y'all reaching a bit with this one.' Another wrote: 'He will like every single post he ever sees.' And it's not just Travis himself who has gotten side-eyed by the public for his interactions with family on Instagram. Earlier this year, Travis's 18-year-old daughter, Alabama Barker, also received backlash after posting a provocative photo in a sheer black lace dress with the caption: 'Bro said he can't wait to see Alabama like Travis Barker.' Many fans were disturbed by the reference to her father, and the post fueled further scrutiny of how the Barker family engages with each other online. In recent years, Travis's personal life has been under a microscope, especially since marrying Kourtney Kardashian in 2022. While the couple frequently shows off their relationship on social media - including their blended family dynamics - critics have often called out their highly public affection and family-related posts. The couple is no stranger to controversy - especially when it comes to Barker's behavior and comments. In his 2015 memoir, Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums, Barker admitted he found Kim Kardashian 'f**king hot' and referred to her as 'eye candy,' saying he 'kept on secretly checking out Kim,' despite not pursuing anything romantically. Speculation grew that those past feelings might have contributed to the tension Kim and Kourtney had on their show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but Barker has publicly called the rumors 'ridiculous.' He said that his comments were simply reflections and that nothing inappropriate ever occurred. Kim herself denied any romantic involvement, stating they were longtime friends and that the rumors were false.

Country singer Zac Brown, 46, reveals secret to his shocking weight loss transformation

Zac Brown has revealed the secret to his weight loss transformation after shedding an impressive 65 pounds. The country singer, 46, has been on a grueling 'spirit quest' over the last seven years, and has tried a range of diets – including veganism – to try and get there. Now, he is looking trimmer than ever and weighs in at just under 200 pounds - and he is imploring Americans to 'invest in the way that you feel.' While he used to drink alcohol, Zac has now cut out the booze from his diet completely. He also pays close attention to reading food labels and tries to keep junk food out of his house. Additionally, the artist has been working with an NFL trainer and a nutritionist to make sure that he is focusing on strength and conditioning, as well as his diet. 'I have to carry around my food with me,' he said of what he eats. 'But the diet is pretty simple. It's based on three meals a day that are about four hours apart. 'After your last meal, you fast for 14 hours. And as far as what you're eating: it's a lot of paleo, vegetables, good, clean proteins, whole foods, things that aren't just processed in a bag or in a box. 'I'm gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, alcohol-free.' The country music star now weighs in at just under 200 pounds and is encouraging fans to 'invest in the way that you feel' (pictured in July) As for how he exercises, Zac revealed that he often plays games while hitting the Arc Trainer for an hour. An Arc Trainer is an exercise equipment that has its pedal move in an arcuate motion. It is great for a cardio workout and muscle strengthening. He also enjoys playing pickleball, or other outdoor activities where you're not thinking about exercising. Speaking to GQ, Zac explained that he has had to change his mindset and really focus on keeping the momentum going. 'I'm making my choices based on how I want to feel, how I want to look, and the amount of energy I have,' he said. 'My discipline for the workouts, the days that I don't feel like working out, those are the days that you really need to do it the most. It pulls you out of whatever funk you're in.' In July, it was revealed that Zac is engaged to his jewelry designer girlfriend, Kendra Scott, just a few months after they debuted their relationship on the red carpet at The American Music Awards in May. 'We are so happy and grateful that we found each other,' the couple told People. Zac proposed with a large, pink, bezel-set diamond. Both Zac and Kendra, who landed a spot on Forbes' 2025 list of America's Richest Self-Made Women, have been married before. Zac has five children with his ex-wife, Shelly Brown, while Scott has two adult sons with her ex, John Scott, and a young son with ex Matt Davis. The couple shocked the world when they made their red carpet debut at the AMA's this past spring.
