"Purpose of mission has been accomplished:" All-Party Delegation member Brittas in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia], June 1 (ANI): All-Party Delegation Member and CPI-M MP John Brittas, who is part of the JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha-led delegation visiting Malaysia on Sunday, said that they have successfully conveyed India's message that all countries should unite against terrorism.
Brittas, while talking to ANI, said that the delegation has held several meetings and also addressed the Indian community here.
'We have a comprehensive strategic friendship with Malaysia...We had a couple of meetings and also addressed the Indian community...We feel that the purpose of the mission has been accomplished. We successfully conveyed the message of India that all the countries have to unite in the fight against terrorism,' Brittas said.
While interacting with the Indian diaspora here, he pointed out that Pakistan is a rogue nation, which has now become a military-controlled nation.
'Pakistan has plummeted to a military-controlled nation. Their military leader, Asim Munir, has self-declared himself the Field Marshal. This happens only in a banana republic or a rogue nation,' Brittas said, referring to Munir's comments on two-nation policy and his promotion despite Pakistan's embarrassing failure in the face of Operation Sindoor.
Brittas appealed to Malaysia that a country must not stay silent when another faces terror attacks stating that terrorism catches up with those who stay silent.
'A significant distinction between Indian and Pakistan is that we are a secular nation and Pakistan is a theocratic nation... Pakistan doesn't even have a civil administration... That is one message we wanted to convey to all the nations- You shouldn't be neutral or silent when terror inflicts India, because terror always turns around and catches up with those who helped it,' he said.
Brittas said that India has a no first use policy, as all Indian Prime Ministers have tried to co-exist with Pakistan.
'India is the one country that has taken a decision that we will never use nuclear weapons as a first resort against any country... We have tried to co-exist with Pakistan. All the Prime Ministers, all the governments of India have tried their level best to extend their hand for friendship towards Pakistan... Our message is that no nation should be neutral or silent on this cardinal aspect of terrorism.'
The delegation to Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore is led by JD-U MP Sanjay Kumar Jha. It includes Aparajita Sarangi (BJP), Abhishek Banerjee (Trinamool Congress), Brij Lal (BJP), John Brittas (CPI-M), Pradan Baruah (BJP), Hemang Joshi (BJP), Salman Khurshid and Mohan Kumar. (ANI)

Laws must be strictly applied against illegal migrants: Bengal MLA Nawsad Siddique
Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA Nawsad Siddique has called for strict legal action against illegal immigrants following Operation Sindoor, during which over 2,000 alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have reportedly been deported since early May. Emphasising the need for the rule of law, Siddique said, 'Whoever is an illegal citizen in India, whether they are Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Afghanistani, or anyone else, our country is a democracy, we have a Constitution, we have laws, and we all must abide by them. Against illegal migrants, the law should be strictly enforced.' His remarks come amid mounting political pressure on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal to clarify its stance on the deportations. When asked whether Trinamool would allow illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to stay in Bengal or take action to expel them, Siddique responded cautiously: 'I don't know what they will do. Those who come illegally, the laws that exist in our country should be applied to them strictly.' According to media reports, since the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, Indian authorities have deported more than 2,000 alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The operation followed a nationwide verification drive aimed at identifying undocumented foreign nationals. Many of these individuals, the reports state, were airlifted in Indian Air Force aircraft from various detention centres across the country to border points in eastern India. They were then placed in temporary camps under the custody of the Border Security Force (BSF), where they were given food and provided with Bangladeshi currency if necessary. After brief detention, they were 'pushed back' into Bangladesh. Additionally, Delhi Police have, in a concerted capital-wide drive, identified 470 people as illegal Bangladeshi migrants and another 50 as foreigners who have overstayed and deported them via the land border to Bangladesh.

NEW DELHI: India has reiterated its commitment to building enduring, future-ready partnerships with all BRICS nations , particularly in the connectivity, space sustainability , and digital ecosystem domains, at a multilateral meeting of communication ministers in Brasilia. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani , minister of state for communications, who is leading the Indian delegation at the 1th BRICS communications ministers' meeting, supported the declaration on "Universal and Meaningful Connectivity, Space Sustainability, Environmental Responsibility, and Comprehensive Digital Ecosystem development". 'We reaffirm India's unwavering commitment to enduring, future-ready partnerships with all BRICS nations. Our cooperation is not episodic; it is structural, strategic, and spiritually anchored in mutual respect,' Pemmasani said. The BRICS grouping includes 11 nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. This year Brazil, under its presidency, has set four strategic priorities – universal and meaningful connectivity, space sustainability, environmental sustainability, and the digital ecosystem. 'Today, we stand united in consensus to advance collaboration across the digital future's vital pillars: Universal and Meaningful Connectivity, Space Sustainability, Environmental Responsibility, and comprehensive Digital Ecosystem development,' the minister said. India will host the Communications Ministers Meeting in 2026. According to Pemmasani, India's digital governance is a combination of 'civilisational wisdom and cutting-edge innovation'. 'Our approach is transformational, not transactional—guided by inclusion, equity, and technological empowerment for all,' he said. The minister highlighted that the Digital Bharat Nidhi (erstwhile Universal Service Obligation Fund) has fueled BharatNet, one of the world's largest rural connectivity projects, and connected over 2.18 lakh village councils with high-speed optical fiber. 'India developed and deployed indigenous 4G technology at an unprecedented scale. This wasn't merely technology adoption - it was technology mastery. Our 4G networks now serve over 95% of our population, creating the backbone of our digital economy,' Pemmasani said, adding that India has achieved one of the fastest 5G rollouts globally, deploying over 4.7 lakh 5G base stations in just over two years. Furthermore, the minister said the rising satellite density, especially in the low-Earth orbit (LEO), has brought new risks, including orbital congestion, signal interference, and spectrum monopolisation, which are increasingly becoming geopolitical concerns too. 'BRICS must lead with foresight. We propose structured collaboration to safeguard orbital equity and ensure resilience in space infrastructure. Let space remain a shared frontier—driven by cooperation, not competition,' Pemmasani said. According to him, the Telecommunications Act, 2023, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act showcase India's forward-thinking regulatory approach which prioritises safeguarding user rights and data sovereignty. 'In essence, our vision is simple but profound: to build a digital ecosystem that empowers every citizen, inspires innovation, and delivers equitable progress. India is committed to championing this cause, not only domestically but as a voice for the developing world in global tech governance,' Pemmasani said.

Bharat Gen, AI-based multimodal LLM for Indian languages, launched
New Delhi: Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh launched ' Bharat Gen ', an indigenously developed artificial intelligence-based multimodal Large Language Model (LLM) for Indian languages, here on Monday. Developed under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) and implemented through TIH Foundation for IoT (Internet of Things) and IoE (Internet of Everything) at IIT Bombay , Bharat Gen aims to revolutionize AI development across India's linguistic and cultural spectrum, Singh said. The initiative is supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and brings together a consortium of leading academic institutions, experts, and innovators. Singh described Bharat Gen as a "national mission to create AI that is ethical, inclusive, multilingual, and deeply rooted in Indian values and ethos". The platform integrates text, speech, and image modalities, offering seamless AI solutions in 22 Indian languages. "This initiative will empower critical sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance, delivering region-specific AI solutions that understand and serve every Indian," Singh said. The minister recounted a success story from his own constituency Udhampur where an AI doctor communicates fluently in the patient's native language. "It not only builds trust but has a placebo-like psychological effect, enabling better care in remote regions connected with superspeciality hospitals across India," he said. Singh emphasised the transformative role of Generative AI in grassroots governance, citing the integration of multilingual feedback systems into platforms like CPGRAMS to enhance citizen engagement and grievance redressal.
