Clayton Kershaw passes 3,000 strikeouts: Dodgers beat White Sox with late comeback
Clayton Kershaw needed three punch-outs on Wednesday night. He got them and entered baseball's most exclusive club. The 37-year-old sat down Chicago infielder Vinny Capra in the sixth inning, recording career strikeout number 3,000 and becoming only the twentieth pitcher, and the fourth left-hander, to reach that mark.
Kershaw did it on his 100th pitch of the game, a tight slider that froze Capra. The Dodger Stadium crowd rose, teammates hugged him on the grass, and Kershaw tipped his cap before walking off to a standing ovation.
The milestone is rare for another reason. Kershaw is just the third pitcher to strike out 3,000 hitters while spending his entire career with one team, joining Walter Johnson and Bob Gibson. According to Elias Sports Bureau numbers, he reached the mark in 2,787 ⅓ innings, the fourth-fastest pace in Major League history.
Game turned in the ninth
Los Angeles still trailed 4-2 when Kershaw left. The bats rescued the night with a three-run surge in the ninth. Shohei Ohtani's grounder tied the game, and Freddie Freeman drilled a single to right to score the winner.
Final score:
Dodgers 5, White Sox 4.
What the milestone means
Kershaw already owns three Cy Young Awards, an MVP trophy and a World Series ring. The 3,000-strikeout line fills one of the few blank spaces on his résumé. His next targets are 200 wins—he sits at 208—and a fourth trip to October glory.

Manager Dave Roberts said he plans to keep Kershaw on a cautious workload as the Dodgers chase another division title. For now, the left-hander can enjoy a moment that belongs to legends. The crowd's chant summed it up: 'Ker-shaw! Ker-shaw!'

IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill slams double century, equals Virat Kohli's rare Test record
Shubman Gill (BCCI Photo) NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill delivered a career-defining knock on Day 2 of the second Test against England at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, bringing up his maiden Test double century in emphatic fashion. Upon reaching the milestone, he celebrated with passion — punching the air, removing his helmet, dropping to one knee for a fist pump, followed by his trademark bow. A wide smile lit up his face as the Indian dressing room stood and applauded the young skipper's milestone moment. This knock not only marked Gill's first Test double hundred but also placed him in elite company. Among Indian captains, only Virat Kohli (7 double tons) has scored more. Others to have reached the 200-run mark once as captain include MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar , Sachin Tendulkar , MS Dhoni, and now Shubman Gill. Significantly, Gill's 200 is just the second double hundred by an Indian captain in overseas Tests, after Kohli's 200 against the West Indies at North Sound in 2016. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Gill also got to his double century in just his third innings as captain, the joint-quickest for India, alongside Sunil Gavaskar (205 vs WI, Wankhede, 1978). He also created history by becoming the first Asian captain to register a double century in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). The previous best was Tillakaratne Dilshan's 193 at Lord's in 2011. Gill also etched his name into a rare list of captains with double hundreds in England. His effort is the 11th such instance, with only one — Graeme Smith's double tons at Edgbaston and Lord's in 2003 — coming at a younger age. At 25 years and 298 days, Gill is now the second youngest Indian captain to score a Test double hundred, behind MAK Pataudi, who achieved the feat in 1964 at 23 years and 39 days.
