Katy Perry defiantly claps back at haters amid music career scrutiny and Orlando Bloom split

Daily Maila day ago
Katy Perry has defiantly clapped back at haters as she performed for a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in NYC on Monday amid her Lifetimes Tour.
The 40-year-old Firework singer - whose split from Orlando Bloom was confirmed in June after nine years together - addressed the audience inside the massive stadium over speculation that she couldn't sell out the 19,500 seat venue.
'They said, "No way! MSG, it couldn't be done." And I was scared, too,' the star expressed, per People.
Perry then jokingly added that she had been worried she would be eating a 'hot dog from the corner' instead of taking to the stage inside the sold-out stadium.
The mom-of-one then called New York 'special' as well as a 'beautiful hot mess.'
She recalled recently arriving to the Big Apple and said 'it smelled like New York City. And you know what I'm talking about.'
Perry continued, 'It was late at night. We got in from Philly, and there were drunk people vomiting on the same corner as people making out. That was New York City! And I loved it.'
The singer further expressed that NYC 'represents life,' including 'the highs, the lows, the in-betweens, everything that is messy, everything that is beautiful.
'And it sure as hell is not perfect 'cause perfection is an illusion. I understood it because I resonate with it so much, because one of my favorite words is authenticity, and you know what New York is? Authentic.'
Perry's response to haters this week comes amid her music career scrutiny and recent breakup from Bloom.
The star dropped her seventh studio album 143 in September 2024 - but was panned by critics upon its release.
She also garnered backlash due to her collaboration with Dr. Luke on the LP, who was involved in a years-long legal battle with fellow singer Kesha after she sued him in 2014 of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse - which he denied.
Earlier this year in April, Perry was one of the celebrities who took part in an 11-minute space mission on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket.
The Dark Horse songstress was brutally mocked after she promoted her tour dates while in space and for later kissing the ground as she landed safely back to Earth.

The all-female space mission notably garnered negative reaction from both fans as well as other celebrities, including Olivia Munn and Emily Ratajkowski.
A source previously told Daily Mail, 'Katy doesn't regret going to space. It was life changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it.'
However, she did regret 'kissing the ground' as well as the 'close-up camera moments' while inside the capsule.
In May, it was revealed that Perry was not invited back for another Las Vegas residency.
'The residency was a disaster for Resorts World, a complete failure,' a separate source told NewsNation at the time.
Resorts World Las Vegas - where the singer held her PLAY residency - allegedly lost money to keep her show on from 2021 through 2023.
Perry's Lifetimes Tour kicked off in April, not long after her Blue Origin mission. But the concerts have experienced ups and downs thus far, from canceled dates to low ticket sales.
The singer's choreography has also been mocked on social media, with some comparing her dancing to 'mom moves.'
However, Perry has brushed aside the criticism and backlash as she continues to embark on her tour dates.
Later this week, she will make a stop in Newark as well as Baltimore and Raleigh before later kicking off an international trek in September.
The Lifetimes Tour will come to an end later this year on December 7 with a performance in Abu Dhabi.
This month, Perry sustained injuries after dropping to her knees when a fan collapsed on stage during her concert. She later took to Instagram to reveal her bloody right knee as well as bruises.
Perry's split from ex-fiance Bloom came to light in June following their engagement in 2019 and the birth of their daughter Daisy the following year.
At the time, a source told Us Weekly: 'Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,' while also adding that the separation has been 'not contentious' thus far.
'Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.'
The Teenage Dream hitmaker was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 until their divorce in 2012.
And representatives for the two stars also confirmed to Daily Mail: 'Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.
'They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is - and always will be - raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.'
Late last month in July, Perry was seen enjoying a dinner date with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Montreal amid her Lifetimes Tour stop in Canada.
And sources have since stated that the pair had an 'instant connection' and are 'interested in each other.'
In video obtained by Daily Mail, the pair took part in a lighthearted conversation as they sat across from each other as they dined at the eatery.
At one point, the mom-of-one held a small smile on her face as she listened to what Trudeau was saying.
Two days later, the former Canadian Prime Minister - who announced his resignation earlier this year in January - was also spotted at her Montreal concert on Wednesday at the Bell Centre.
It also came two years after his split from ex-wife Sophie Gregoire in August 2023. The former couple are also parents to three children.
A source told People that the pair 'are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes.'
And another insider recently told Daily Mail that the pair's dinner outing was simply 'a get together.'
'She hasn't told anyone it was anything more, and she usually wears her heart on her sleeve, so if something were happening, she'd let her close friends know. But right now it is nothing more than friendship.'
Following her split from Bloom, the singer 'isn't ready to start dating anyone right now' and is instead focusing on 'healing' from the separation.
'Could that change? Obviously, but the ball is in Katy's court right now. No relationship so far.'
Another insider stated that Perry and Trudeau first met at an event and that their dinner date this week was only 'a hangout.'
They later added, 'It could develop, of course, but it's not anything more than two single people who had dinner together and like to talk.'
The source further explained that Perry 'literally just became single five minutes ago and they haven't even separated all of their stuff yet. She's not going to fall in love with someone new so quickly.'
On Tuesday, Perry glammed up in a figure-hugging, navy dress with a white trim on the neckline for a night out in NYC
She slipped into a pair of open-toed, nude heels and styled her dark locks into a chic up do as she grabbed dinner at The Pool in the Big Apple

The songstress opted for minimal accessories to allow her outfit to be the main focal point, and added a pair of small earrings.
Perry easily carried a mini yellow purse in her hand to hold a few items she needed for the nighttime excursion.

Aubrey Plaza breaks silence on first role since husband Jeff Baena's shock death at 47

Aubrey Plaza is excited by the 'challenge' of playing Heidi Fleiss in an upcoming biopic. The 41-year-old actress is set to the play the former madam in The Heidi Fleiss Story, and Aubrey has revealed that she's looking forward to the playing the 'icon'. 'I've been on this track for a while. I got it in my head that I wanted to play her a couple of years ago and I've never played a real-life person before,' she told IndieWire. 'It's a different kind of scale, challenge, that I'm really excited about, and I just think she's an incredible person, incredible character.' Heidi previously ran an upscale, Los Angeles-based prostitution ring and is often referred to as the Hollywood Madam. And Aubrey thinks her story will make for a fascinating movie. The actress explained: 'The story is insane. She's done something that probably nobody else has ever done, and she's still going. I think she's the ultimate bad*** icon and she deserves the royal treatment. We shall give it to her.' Asked if she's ever had the chance to talk to Heidi, Aubrey replied: 'I have not spoken with her, [but] I hope so. I hope to make a little trip to her place in the desert at some point. Spiritually I feel her. I've heard she's very excited about it. We're in early stages.' Aubrey has already enjoyed huge success in her career, starring in movies such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Happiest Season and Black Bear. But the actress previously revealed that her success has been fuelled by rejection. The Hollywood star told NME: 'Auditioning always felt like this f*****-up game that I was playing with life. Like playing the lottery or something. 'I think I've always been very fuelled by rejection. It only made me want it more, because I think I just had that thing inside of me that's like: 'I wanna be in the club that I'm not in' or whatever that is; 'I want the thing that I can't have, or the thing that I don't have. And if you tell me that I'm not good enough, I'll just find a way to prove you wrong somehow.' Aubrey has starred in a wide variety of film and TV projects over the years, including thrillers, political satires and sitcoms. But the actress also loves the idea of starring in big-budget projects. She said: 'I love blockbusters. I think I'm always nostalgic for big movies that are also good – which is a really hard thing to make. But when you do, you'll never forget it. Those kinds of movies can change the world.' The White Lotus star is not only leading the film as Fleiss, but also producing — marking her first major role since the heartbreaking loss of her husband Jeff Baena, who died by suicide on January 3. As casting news spread online, fans quickly took to social media to point out the striking physical resemblance between Aubrey and Heidi. 'Wow, she looks eerily similar to Heidi,' one fan wrote on X. Fleiss rose to infamy in the early 1990s when she was revealed to be running a high-end prostitution ring in Los Angeles that catered to wealthy clients, including celebrities, Hollywood executives, and powerful businessmen. Known as the 'Hollywood Madam,' she allegedly inherited the operation from her former lover and mentor, convicted madam Elizabeth Adams, also known as 'Madam Alex,' and quickly expanded it into a multi-million-dollar enterprise. Fleiss's empire came crashing down in June 1993, when she was arrested and later indicted on multiple charges including pandering, tax evasion, and money laundering, with prosecutors accusing her of laundering over $1.5 million through shell companies and false bookkeeping. During her sensational trial, salacious details emerged about her client list—rumored to include A-list names—though many identities were never publicly confirmed, fueling widespread fan frenzy. Now, Plaza is stepping into the complex role of the convicted madam, bringing her signature intensity to the character of Fleiss. The casting follows a string of high-profile and critically praised performances, including roles in Ethan Coen's Honey Don't and Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis. She also earned acclaim for her work in Sundance favorite My Old Ass and HBO's The White Lotus Season 2. Up next, she'll star alongside Susan Sarandon in The Accompanist, a buzzy indie drama marking the directorial debut of The Office alum Zack Woods. In 2024, an autopsy report from the L.A. County Medical Examiner, obtained by shed light on the circumstances surrounding Baena's tragic death. At the time, he had been living in New York, where his body was discovered on January 3. According to the report, the Life After Beth filmmaker had been going through 'marital difficulties' in the months leading up to his death and had been receiving therapy. Though Plaza's name was redacted, the documents noted that she had spoken to Baena the night before he died and had previously voiced concern for his mental state. The medical examiner confirmed that Baena had no drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his passing and noted that Plaza believed he was still alive on the morning of January 3, as he had texted her earlier that day. The report indicated that a dog walker discovered Baena's body. Shortly after his death, a representative for Plaza said in a statement obtained by 'This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.' Baena, who graduated with a film degree from New York University, got hands-on experience with major filmmakers when he worked as a production assistant for Robert Zemeckis and an assistant editor for David O. Russell.

People say I'm a Short King... I told a girl my height on a dating app and her rejection was horrible

A man who is 5'6 is opening up about the controversial way that he was rejected by a woman - calling it a 'humiliation ritual.' In a viral video posted to TikTok this week by Atlanta-based musician Ian, who goes by the username @ian3snacks, he chronicled an 'embarrassing' experience he recently had while dating. 'Yesterday, I matched with this absolute goddess of a woman, like, just draw-droppingly beautiful,' Ian began. 'I noticed that she's taller than me, which, for queer women, normally that isn't an issue, I'm a short guy, I'm only 5'6, but she was straight, and that tends to be a deal breaker for a lot of straight women, which is not a big deal,' he continued. He joked that he only checks two out of the three 'tall, dark and handsome' boxes that most women are looking for. 'So, per my standard protocol, I DM her, and I say, "Hey, you're stunning, did you see that I am only 5'6?"' he said. In response, the woman said that she didn't happen to see how tall he was on his profile. She then asked Ian if he cared if she was taller than him or even wore heels on their date. 'I think she thought I was gonna get insecure and bail out so that she wouldn't have to be the bad guy, but I hit her with the Uno reverse,' Ian said. 'I said, "Actually, I'm totally comfortable with it, like you do you, just getting to have dinner with you would be compliments enough. Or, otherwise, if you want to politely see yourself out now, no harm, no foul, I get it,"' he continued. After he sent her that message, Ian claimed that she 'immediately' unmatched with him. However, it looks like Ian didn't take it personally. 'This is not a woe is me story, I just like telling funny dating stories,' he explained. In a recent interview with Newsweek, the filmmaker shared that he likes to be as 'upfront as possible' on dating apps. 'Men's height gets talked about enough online that I try to get it out of the way immediately if I suspect it might be an issue that got overlooked,' Ian told the outlet. 'In the same way, I've had curvier women ask me if I was OK with how they look - which I always am,' he continued. 'I just want to make sure that it's clear that this girl is not a bad person. I do not want her [seen] as a shallow-minded villain.' In the comments section, however, people were divided over his tactic, with some revealing they respected his transparency while others suggested he was to blame for the woman's decision to unmatch. 'Not giving short kings a chance is the biggest error of my 20s and 30s,' one person admitted. Another shared, 'Your response would have made me want to date you even more regardless of height!!!!! She's missing out!!!' 'Ladies need to remember that rockstars are always short kings and their model girlfriends are always taller than them. I think it's hot,' someone else typed. Others thought that he may have given her the 'ick' by asking about his height - and then giving her the opportunity to bow out of the match. 'Listen! You gave her the ick with the 'if you want to see yourself out now' I'm telling you ! That's what it was. It showed you were saying you weren't worthy,' one TikTok user wrote. 'Ok, I don't think she bounced because of your height. When she asked if you were cool with heels, just say yes and go on the date. Don't ask again. You have more to offer than height,' another echoed. 'As a taller woman, we were bullied relentlessly by boys growing up so that's what might be informing that preference,' someone else agreed.

Shirtless Justin Bieber looks dazed at nightclub partying with controversial rapper amid fan concern

It didn't take long for Justin Bieber to remove his shirt while attending Gunna 's release party for his sixth studio album The Last Wun, which was held at West Hollywood nightclub Zouk on Wednesday night. The 31-year-old pop star - who previously got sober in 2014 - appeared dazed as he clutched a bottle of Clase Azul México tequila in the middle of a packed crowd of partygoers. Beanie-loving Justin - who kept his shaved head exposed for once - grinned as he greeted one man while flaunting his tattooed torso and sleeves. And while there were about five women mingling nearby, Bieber seemed far more focused on his bros at the boozy bash. Many in the hip-hop community labeled Gunna a 'snitch' in 2022 when he accepted an Alford plea deal in order to walk free after being charged in a 56-count RICO case against Young Thug and 26 other members of the Young Stoner Life collective. The 32-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper had allegedly received stolen property and was in possession of drugs — including methamphetamine, marijuana, and hydrocodone — with the intent to distribute. Gunna (born Sergio Giavanni Kitchens) is featured on the two-time Grammy winner's new song Way It Is off his seventh studio album Swag, which is currently No. 5 on the US Billboard 200 after dropping July 11. Justin arrived at the venue wearing a large white T-shirt over retro wide-leg blue jeans and $350 Duke + Dexter 'Wilde Kiss' penny loafers. 'Grateful for a new day. Grateful for Jesus,' Bieber - who boasts 607.8M social media followers - wrote Tuesday. 'He meets me every morning with forgiveness and love that I truly don't deserve. So grateful that he gives this love so freely, so graciously. Wouldn't be able to get [through] the day without his love. It meets me at my lowest.' On Monday, the born-again Christian wrote about 'praying away the feeling of being wrong' and declared he wanted to grow in his 'awareness of God, selflessness, passion, faith, wonder, and love.' On Wednesday, Justin dropped his personal photographer Rory Kramer's b&w music video for First Place, in which he hangs out in Iceland smoking and snowboarding with his musician buddies. At one point, Bieber stripped down to his tighty whities to go from a hot tub to a cold plunge in a nearby lake where he performed one push-up. As the 'Standing on Business' star was partying, his wife Hailey Baldwin Bieber enjoyed a girls' night out with gal pals Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Alex Consani at nearby Italian restaurant Alba. On August 22, the married couple of six years will celebrate the first birthday of their son Jack Blues Bieber. Eyebrows raised over Bieber's disrespectful public posts about Mother's Day and Hailey's first solo American Vogue cover. The power dynamic changed between the pair last May when Baldwin sold her skincare/cosmetics company for $1B to e.l.f Cosmetics, and she will remain with the company as chief creative officer and head of innovation. Justin's athleisure clothing company SKYLRK launched July 10. Bieber enlisted business partner Neima Khaila and 3D design consultant Finn Rush-Taylor to help him create the replacement to his prior label, Drew House. The protégé of Sean 'Diddy' Combs' recently fired his manager Scooter Braun, 'swagger coach' Ryan Good, business manager Lou Taylor, bodyguards Keith Gibbs and Eric Johnson, as well as security guard Kenny Hamilton. Justin was already suffering from depression before revealing he had come down with Ramsay Hunt syndrome in 2022, which made him focus more on his health.
