SEPANG - A student of a local university was found dead, believed to have been murdered, in a condominium in Cyberjaya two days ago (June 24).
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said a police team went to the scene after receiving a report regarding the discovery of the 20-year-old female student at 10.28am.
He said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene, and initial investigations found that there were no signs of a break-in.
Further examination of the body found there were injuries to the head due to blunt force trauma, he said in a statement today.
Norhizam said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and urged those with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, ASP Mohd Husny Hussien, at 012-9307860 or a nearby police station.
"The police are taking this incident seriously and advise the public to remain calm, not to speculate or share false information, which could affect the investigation and not to take any action that could violate the law," he said. - BERNAMA

JOHOR BARU: Two Vietnamese nationals, a man and a woman, have been charged in a Magistrate's Court here with drug trafficking and possession. On the drug trafficking charge, male accused Lee Yuen Fei, 45, and Trieu Thi Mai, 22, are alleged to have trafficked 38,022g (38kg) of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) at 8.20pm at Jalan Seri Orkid 25, Taman Seri Orkid on June 14. However, no plea was recorded and the accused only nodded in acknowledgment after the charges were read out to them on Thursday (June 26). This is because the case, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for the death sentence, or life imprisonment and no fewer than 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction, is under the jurisdiction of the High Court. KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher has urged the Higher Education Ministry to review and strengthen existing safety protocols to enhance security measures at student accommodations nationwide. Bandar Kuching member of parliament Dr Kelvin Yii, in a statement today, said the incident involving a female student who was murdered in her dormitory room in Cyberjaya has raised serious concerns about student safety, particularly for those living far from home. "I urge the ministry to review and strengthen existing safety protocols and work closely with all educational institutions to enhance their security measures at student accommodations nationwide. "This incident must serve as a wake-up call to both educational institutions and authorities responsible for student welfare. "Police and all relevant authorities must conduct an immediate, thorough and transparent investigation into the tragic death of the student from Kuching," he said. He said educational institutions and hostel management must also take proactive steps to ensure that all students are provided with a safe living environment, including secure dorm access, functioning CCTV, emergency reporting systems, and close coordination with local police. "The heinous crime that followed paints the outcome of a failed system to protect the safety of the students, which should have always been the priority of any educational institution. "Campus safety cannot be treated as an afterthought or a box-ticking exercise. "The safety of students must be embedded as a core institutional responsibility. "Prevention must take priority and necessary improvements must be made without waiting for another tragedy to occur," he said. It was reported that a 20-year-old university student was found dead in her condominium unit here on Tuesday morning.
