Why Lasizwe's choice of 'homophobic' guest has upset many netizens
Lasizwe Dambuza's controversial 'Awkward Date' guest sparks online debate.

YouTuber and content creator Thulasizwe Dambuza, fondly known as Lasizwe, has ruffled some feathers with his latest 'Awkward Date' guest.
The 26-year-old creator took to his social media to announce his latest guest, Simon Kaggwa Njala, for an upcoming episode of his popular YouTube show 'Awkward Date'.
Njala is a media personality and journalist from Uganda who gained notoriety after an interview on the Ugandan show, 'Morning Breeze' with Pepe Julian Onziema, who is an LGBTQIA+ rights activist in a country where being gay is criminalised.
The interview was about the Ugandan LGBTQIA+ community. During the discussion between the two, Njala asked Onziema, who also presents as a trans man, 'Why are you gay?' which became a viral meme.
Although the interview took place in 2012, the video surfaced in 2019, and if you were chronically online then, you know that this meme was used a lot all over social media.

The question became a famous tagline that ended up on many T-shirts. While it was all fun and games for many, it was not a pleasant time for the LGBTQIA+ community, who have fought and still continue to fight oppression.
Evidently, Njala came across as homophobic because he could not fathom Onziema's sexual preference, which is why Dambuza's announcement has sparked outrage among his fans.
The complete "Why are you gay" interview is even funnier than the memes and the screenshots 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/EiNtRi3RBn — 𝕋𝔼𝔾𝔸™ 🌍 (@Tegadeyforyou) May 1, 2023
Dambuza shared pictures of himself and the Ugandan journalist along with a snippet of the famous interview on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption; 'I said 'ARE YOU READY??''. However, some have questioned the genuineness of the pictures as they seem to be AI-generated.
As someone who belongs to the LGBTQIA+ community himself, Dambuza's decision shocked many and was met with mixed reactions from fans, with some finding humour in the announcement and others finding it odd that he would invite a 'homophobe' to his show during Pride Month.
An X user, @LukanyoBee, said: 'Being gay and choosing to give a platform to a Ugandan homophobe during Pride Month is... something. Not smart, though. 🌚'

Another user, @mwaura___, commented: 'What a weirdo you are! Queer Ugandans live under a very hostile and homophobic socio-legal environment; some have even been forced to flee for their lives, a hostile environment created by people like this man you are platforming. Have you got no shame?'

Some of Dambuza's fans shared their excitement about watching the episode when it drops. @JeffreyHustle commented: 'Ok, I am definitely going to watch this one. 😂😂😂', while another X user, @SassySalsy, commented: 'So ready 🤣🤣'.

Nasty C's new adventure: Exploring everyday jobs beyond music
Nasty C embarks on a labour journey, going from mechanic to barber. Image: Instagram Rapper Nasty C is switching things up by trading in his mic for a toolbox. The artist, known for his top-charting hits, has embarked on a new project where he is exploring everyday jobs to gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a hardworking individual. In a recent Instagram Reel (video) captioned: 'This was fun! What job should I do next?' Nasty C shared that he will be embarking on a mission of trying out different work spaces to get a sense of what normal people go through at their day to day jobs as part of a new series. 'What's up, guys? So, I'm gonna be doing this thing for a couple of days where I go to a lot of people's different workspaces to get a sense of what people's version of working hard looks like. 'I'm a musician, you guys know what my version of working hard looks like. It's late hours, it's studio time, it's shoots and all that kinda stuff,' he says in the video. 'I wanna get a sense of what normal people go through at work,' he adds. In the video, the rapper is seen actively working at a panel beater on a client's car, fixing the car's wheel alignment. The 'Black And White' hitmaker is calling on his fans to suggest other jobs he should try out and employers to hire him. Nasty C's fans are excited about the project, with many suggesting jobs ranging from Shoprite cashier to e-hailing driver. The comments section is filled with enthusiastic responses from his fans eager to see what other professions the rapper will take on as they suggest different jobs. Instagram user @wothi_mthiyane commented: "DM me, I'll take you to a mining site for environmental inspections." While @luckyred504 suggested: 'I work at McDonald's, It would surely be nice to see you laying patties on the grill or assembling burgers like a 'Big Mac' 😀👏.' In episode two of his series, the next stop for the rapper is the barber shop. In his latest video which he shared on YouTube, he is seen gearing up to give a client a haircut working as a barber. Interestingly, this series of job explorations could potentially be incorporated into a music video for his recent single 'Soft', which speaks to the idea of working hard and being paid enough to live comfortably. The song's themes of hard work and dedication align perfectly with Nasty C's latest offering and fans are speculating that the series could contribute to a visually pleasing music video that showcases the rapper portraying his experiences of various professions. This is not the first time Nasty C has involved his fans in his creative process. The 28-year-old rapper has always had an unconventional approach to his music. In March, he handed over the reins to his fans from all across Africa, allowing them to decide on potential tour stops for the 'Ivyson' tour Africa. Prior to that, he also asked students to nominate their universities for a special show, further blurring the lines between artist and fan. Nasty C's approach to music and fan engagement is refreshingly different from the norm, and his fans and industry peers agree. Rapper Kid X also commented under Nasty C's post, stating that Nasty C has 'always been different". He has never been one to conform to traditional rapper stereotypes but instead forges his own path and constantly reinvents himself.
