Last Updated:
Kevin Pietersen has praised Karun Nair and KL Rahul for their dedication to Test cricket after a long T20 league.
Former England cricketer and Delhi Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen lauded his boys Karun Nair and KL Rahul, praising their commitment towards playing the longest format soon after a gruelling two-month-long T20 league, ahead of a big Test series against his native England.
Nair vindicated the selectors' call to include him in the main team as he smacked a double hundred in the ongoing first unofficial Test between India A and England Lions in Canterbury.
Karun made 204 off 281 deliveries (26×4 1×6) as India A continued their strong march after resuming from the overnight 409/3.
Karun was involved in an 181-run partnership for the third wicket with Sarfaraz Khan and a 195-run stand with Dhruv Jurel.
As per reports, Rahul has requested that BCCI fly him to Northamptonshire next week so that he can play the second match between India A and England Lions.
'Karun got a 100 yesterday, and KL has asked BCCI to travel early to the UK to get extra practice in before Tests – 2 gems! ????," Pietersen tweeted on Saturday afternoon.

According to a report in The Times of India, Rahul will leave for Northamptonshire on June 2 after being granted permission by the BCCI.
Rahul decided to play the second India A match against the England Lions after rain had spoiled his preparation in Mumbai. With the weather clearing only by June 5 and the rest of the Indian team set to travel on June 6, Rahul decided to leave earlier.
Rahul had played for India A before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia as well. He was one of India's best batters in that series, which they lost 1-3.
India will be captained by Shubman Gill against England, while Rishabh Pant will serve as his deputy.
Meanwhile, India A were finally bowled out for a whopping 557 in the second session of Day 2, with Josh Hull and Zaman Akhter picking three wickets apiece.
Karun, who resumed from overnight 186, brought up his 200 off 272 deliveries with a boundary over covers off pacer Eddie Jack.

D Gukesh beats former World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen from a losing position in Norway Chess 2025
World Champion Dommaraju Gukesh on Sunday made an amazing comeback to defeat former World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in Round 6 of the ongoing Norway Chess 2025 tournament. The win was Gukesh's first-ever classical victory over the Norwegian grandmaster. The 19-year-old also became the second Indian player to beat Carlsen in the history of the competition after Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. Carlsen had an upper hand over Gukesh for most of the time in the match, but in the end, he couldn't control his nerves, and the teenager turned the tables around and went on to win the match. With this win, D Gukesh jumped to third spot in the Norway Chess 2025 points table with 8.5 points, and now he is just one point behind Carlsen and American Fabiano Caruana. Earlier on May 27, the marquee clash of Round One at Norway Chess 2025 lived up to expectations as Magnus Carlsen launched a classic king hunt to defeat reigning World Champion D Gukesh in a thrilling encounter. This was their first classical match since Gukesh won the world title, and it also marked Carlsen's return to individual classical chess after nearly a year. Reacting to the upset victory, Gukesh's coach, Grandmaster Vishnu Prasanna, praised the teenager's resilience and fighting spirit. "We have to give a lot of credit to Gukesh for his stubbornness and for his resourcefulness because I think he was aware that he was dead lost for so long, yet he kept kicking, he kept kicking, and the time went lower, the more chances he had to actually do something with the position. I don't think his intention was to win that, but yeah, I'm sure he is happy," Vishnu Prasanna said. The win has added further excitement to the tournament, with the race for the top spot tightening as it enters its final rounds.

Lalbiaknia takes the ISL leap with Highlanders
After ensuring that last season's ISL topscorer Alaaeddine Ajaraie stays on with them for another year, NorthEast United FC , on Sunday, announced the addition of more firepower to their attack by the signing of young Indian striker, Lalrinzuala Labiaknia. Lalbiaknia, who grabbed the spotlight in the 2023-24 season by breaking the record of most goals in an I-League season held by Sunil Chhetri and Mohammed Rafi with a tally of 15 goals, saw his contract with Aizawl FC expire after the 2024-25. However, it was the natural progression for one of the most exciting striking talents in the country to move into the top-tier Indian Super League after a brilliant journey in I-League with Aizawl FC — scoring another 12 goals for the Mizoram club during the last season. And the Mizo youngster was glad to have made his first stride in ISL with the club that represents the northeast. "I come from this region, so joining NorthEast United FC is a truly proud moment for me. When I heard about the offer, I instantly knew this was where I wanted to be," Lalrinzuala said. "Playing in ISL will be a new challenge, but I'm ready to give my best, score goals, and contribute to the team's success. I'm excited for this journey, and I believe we can achieve great things together." Head coach Juan Pedro Benali, who held the reins in a brilliant season for the Highlanders and one where they added their first silverware with the Durand Cup, was also excited to enhance the dynamism upfront with the inclusion of the 23-year-old striker. "We are delighted to welcome Lalrinzuala to the team," the coach said in a club statement. "He is a young Indian striker who brings a different profile to our attack with good instincts in the box. He has proved himself with consistency, and I believe he has the potential to grow immensely with us." NEUFC have been at work on strengthening their squad for the next season with the contract renewal by two years of defender Dinesh Singh and midfielder Fredy Chawngthansanga, apart from the staying back of their Moroccan star Ajaraie.
