GEORGE TOWN, July 16 (Bernama) -- Seven Rapid Penang shuttle buses will be available to transport the public to the Batu Kawan Stadium in conjunction with the national-level Unity Week 2025 celebration, from tomorrow until July 20.
The Ministry of National Unity and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) jointly announced in a statement that the free shuttle service will be provided by Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus), Prasarana's subsidiary, and the ministry's strategic partner.
The initiative aims to facilitate the public in planning their journey and attending the various programmes and activities throughout the four-day event.
'For the Sungai Nibong to Batu Kawan route on the island side, those heading to the stadium can wait at the Sungai Nibong Festival Site. Operating hours are 9 am to 10.30 pm from July 17 to 19, and 9 am to 6.30 pm on July 20, with buses running at 60-minute intervals.
'For the mainland route from Seberang Jaya to Batu Kawan, there will be two pick-up points, at Hotel Blanket and Bank Rakyat Perda. The service will run from 9 am to 10.45 pm from July 17 to 19, and 9 am to 6.45 pm on July 20, with the same 60-minute intervals,' read the statement.
Meanwhile, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang commended Prasarana's effort in providing the free service, which indicates its continued commitment to strengthening an inclusive and people-friendly public transport system.
'The ministry extends its utmost thanks to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad for the initiative in providing free shuttle bus service to the public,' he said.
Rapid Bus acting chief executive officer Ku Jamil Zakaria said the company remains dedicated to providing shuttle bus service for the convenience of the public attending the celebration.
Thirty-five activities await visitors at Unity Week 2025, including the Rumah KAMI (ethnic house) exhibition, the Kadazan Dusun and Orang Asli Ethnic Village, the Malaysia Tanah Airku exhibition, and the Susur Masa showcase by the Department of Museums Malaysia.

Tax incentives proposed for companies boosting national unity in Malaysia

KUDAT: The National Unity Ministry is exploring tax incentives for corporations that actively contribute to community-level unity programmes. Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang revealed plans to engage the Finance Ministry and Inland Revenue Board to formalise the proposal, aiming to encourage private-sector participation in fostering social cohesion. Aaron emphasised the need for collaborative efforts beyond government action. 'Unity is a shared responsibility involving corporations, NGOs, and local communities. Social integration directly enhances public confidence in building our nation's future,' he said during the launch of the Borneo Unity Ride 2025. The 15-day cycling event spans 1,500 kilometres from Tanjung Simpang Mengayau to Telok Melano in Sarawak. The initiative aligns with the Malaysia MADANI framework, prioritising cross-sector partnerships. 'Sustainable unity requires inclusive CSR programmes that address national unity, health (ANMS), and patriotism (Semarak Bulan Kebangsaan 2025),' Aaron added. - Bernama

Unity Ministry seeks tax breaks for companies supporting community unity

KUDAT: The National Unity Ministry will discuss with the Finance Ministry and Inland Revenue Board the possibility of offering tax breaks to companies that contribute directly to community-level unity efforts. Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said it is hoped the move would encourage more corporate entities to extend support through inclusive Corporate Social Responsibility programmes that strengthen societal harmony. Aaron called on more non-governmental organisations and corporate companies to take an active role in organising community development programmes centred on unity. "Social integration that directly impacts the well-being of local communities also strengthens the public's confidence in shared responsibility to build the nation's future," he said when launching the Borneo Unity Ride 2025 Tour Programme here today. He also said cross-sector collaboration is key to fostering sustainable and effective unity in the spirit of Malaysia Madani. Aaron said that unity is not solely the responsibility of the government, but rather a collective effort involving all citizens, including the corporate sector, civil society and local communities. "In the spirit of Malaysia Madani, this cross-sector collaboration is vital to achieve a sustainable and effective unity ecosystem," he added. The bicycle ride spans 15 days, covering more than 1,500 kilometres from the Tip of Borneo at Tanjung Simpang Mengayau here to Teluk Melano in Sarawak. The programme focuses on three core components: the National Unity and Integration Agenda, the Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat and the Semarak Bulan Kebangsaan 2025.

Setback for Klang commuters

A longer wait to board: The Shah Alam Line train leaving the Pasar Jawa station in Klang. Train testing and commissioning is underway. — KK SHAM/The Star PETALING JAYA: Prasarana Malaysia's Shah Alam Line (formerly known as LRT3) that connects Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya with Klang is set to miss its widely expected Sept 30 opening date. Just last week, it posted a Facebook update announcing that the LRT sets will have to undergo '24-hour train testing and commissioning' until Oct 30. This means that the entire checklist of electrification, signalling and communications infrastructure has yet to pass regulatory muster, even if all of the physical infrastructure such as stations and track work are completed. On July 30, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said in Parliament that the Shah Alam Line is 99% complete, but did not indicate the date of passenger service commencement. When contacted, a Prasarana official declined to provide any specific date, beyond saying 'the project team is still conducting some key tests before they can conclude'. The Shah Alam LRT is a project built, owned and operated by Prasarana. It is an eagerly awaited service as it provides a critical alternative for Klang residents who have to endure service disruptions of the KTM Komuter due to the ongoing Phase II of the Klang Valley Double Track Rehabilitation project. This disruption is set to last for years, with no clear end date. According to rail professionals, rail testing and commissioning is the most challenging phase of a railway project due to the complexity of integrating various systems as this is a high-stakes area that will impact safety and reliability, more so with the complexities of modern rail systems. 'This phase requires meticulous planning, precise execution and thorough documentation to ensure all systems function together as intended. 'It is a process that cannot be rushed through,' said Yuslizar Daud, a railway systems specialist who once headed the Land Public Transport Commission's Rail Division. The seemingly rushed opening of KL International Airport's aerotrain on July 1 is a lesson for all, particularly after electrical problems on July 12 halted a train set just before it reached the satellite terminal building. Passengers had to disembark and walk the rest of the way. To date, contractors are still conducting tests and rectification of the system. Yesterday afternoon, only one aerotrain was available for service, leading to congestion at the airport. As for the KTM Bhd's electric train service to Johor Baru, Sunday Star reported yesterday that the service will not be able to reach Johor Baru this quarter. Questions linger on whether it will be able to meet its target by end of the year. In response, KTMB said the government is committed to the project's full completion in 'a phased approach', though the statement stayed clear of committing to any particular timeline or date.
