MoF: Targeted subsidies for RON95 petrol to be unveiled by end of September
KUALA LUMPUR: The Finance Ministry (MoF) said the detailed implementation plans for targeted subsidies for RON95 petrol will be announced by end of September, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement on July 23. In a written parliamentary reply, MoF said the government is actively developing and testing the subsidy targeting mechanism to ensure smooth execution upon rollout. "This includes refining data from agencies such as the National Registration Department, Road Transport Department and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM)," it said. "The government aims to adopt a more comprehensive approach to ensure RON95 subsidies reach the intended target groups." MoF was responding to a question from Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat), who asked for an update on the subsidy retargeting implementation, particularly the front-end and back-end phases announced by the Economy Ministry. According to MoF, once implemented, the retargeted subsidy mechanism will allow eligible Malaysians to enjoy RON95 at RM1.99 per litre through MyKad verification. Non-citizens and those ineligible for the subsidy will pay the unsubsidised market rate. Earlier, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, who has taken over the duties of the economy minister, said the first detailed application of the Central Database Hub (Padu) will be for implementing targeted subsidies for RON95 recipients, pending its full rollout.

First one-stop labour centre in Sabah to streamline employment and skills services

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 4): The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), in collaboration with Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), today launched KESUMA Sabah State One-Stop Labour Centre and the HRD Corp Sabah Office at Sutera Avenue, Kota Kinabalu. The launch was officiated by the Minister of Human Resources, Steven Sim Chee Keong. The newly launched KESUMA Sabah State One-Stop Labour Centre brings together key labour-related services under one roof to enhance public access to employment, skills, safety and social protection services. This is the first one-stop centre of its kind launched in the state of Sabah, marking a significant milestone in the ministry's efforts to integrate and streamline labour services across the country. Departments and agencies operating at the KESUMA Sabah State One-Stop Labour Centre include: Department of Labour (JTK) Sabah; Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sabah; Department of Industrial Relations (JPP) Sabah; Department of Trade Union Affairs (JHEKS) Sabah; Industrial Court of Sabah; Department of Skills Development (JPK) Sabah; Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Kota Kinabalu; Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC) JTM Sandakan; Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) Sabah; National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) Sabah; Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK); HRD Corp Sabah. Located on Level 1 of Block A, Sutera Avenue, KESUMA Sabah State One-Stop Labour Centre aims to simplify processes for workers and employers in Sabah by streamlining functions such as job matching, training applications, union matters, workplace safety consultation and legal dispute resolution. This is expected to improve coordination across agencies, empower local talent and support the broader Sabah Maju Jaya and Malaysia MADANI agendas through inclusive and integrated human capital development. The HRD Corp Sabah Office is now fully equipped with a range of facilities, which include training rooms and seminar halls, to support learning, upskilling and professional growth for the people of Sabah. As part of the programme, invited guests toured the facility. 'The launch of the KESUMA Sabah State One-Stop Labour Centre and the HRD Corp Sabah Office reflects KESUMA's new approach in bringing our services closer to the people. Guided by the 'no wrong door policy', all matters related to workers, labour issues, training and social protection are now available under one roof,' said Sim in his speech. He added that this pilot initiative is expected to be expanded nationwide, as part of KESUMA's broader restructuring efforts to ensure more efficient, inclusive and people-friendly services. 'Through HRD Corp, employers can now utilise their training levy not only to enhance the skills of their workforce, but also to upgrade training infrastructure and hire apprentices,' Sim added. Meanwhile, in his speech, Chief Executive of HRD Corp, Dr Syed Alwi bin Mohamed Sultan stated that the relocation of HRD Corp's office to the new location is a strategic move to further strengthen HRD Corp's presence and services in Sabah, while bringing human capital development efforts closer to the local community. 'HRD Corp will continue its commitment to expanding opportunities for collaboration with strategic partners to ensure more people in Sabah, especially vulnerable groups can benefit from relevant and high-impact training opportunities,' he said. Amir Hamzah: PADU data to be used for RON95 targeted subsidy mechanism
THE Finance Ministry (MOF) will fully utilise data from the Central Database Hub (PADU) in the mechanism for the implementation of targeted RON95 subsidies, which is being refined, according to Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. Amir Hamzah, who also carries the duties and functions of Economy Minister, said the system has so far compiled 30.4 million individual profiles, containing information on demographics, locality, socioeconomic status, employment, income, education, vehicle ownership, poverty status, and types of assistance they receive. '… MOF will use the PADU data as a reference point for identifying subsidy recipients…this will be the first detailed use of PADU data. '…the government is focusing on the use of up-to-date data to enhance the effectiveness of service delivery. 'For example, the validation and verification of applicant information is crucial to identify eligible recipients accurately and, in turn, reduce errors,' he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Aug 4). He was responding to a question from Sri Gading MP Aminolhuda Hassan regarding the Economy Ministry's plans for PADU, the volume of data collected as of June 2025, and the government's readiness to conduct periodic audits of the system through an independent body to ensure transparency and proper governance. Amir Hamzah said the government can also identify intervention programmes that are appropriate for target groups based on the data. He added that a total of 204 agencies have been continuously integrating data into the PADU system. 'To promote data-driven decision making, a PADU data-sharing guideline was developed and distributed to all government agencies on Feb 25. 'Briefing sessions involving ministries, agencies, state government, and local authorities were also held between February and June this year. 'To date, nine applications (for the use of PADU data) from various agencies have been approved to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of policy implementation and digital service innovation,' he added. ‒ Aug 4, 2025
