Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio breaks Peter Shilton's all-time appearance record

Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio has broken the record held by former England international Peter Shilton for most competitive appearances in world football, according to his club.
Fabio made the 1,391st appearance of his career in the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana on Tuesday as Fluminense beat America de Cali 2-0 at the famous Maracana stadium in what was the 44-year-old's 235th game for the Brazilian club.

Fabio received a plate and a commemorative painting from Fluminense officials after the game and he also wore a shirt with a special patch to commemorate his milestone during the match, according to the club.
'I have nothing but reasons to thank God, who allowed me to experience this special moment, to reach this gigantic milestone,' Fabio said, via Fluminense's website. 'It was incredibly moving to experience it, especially having my family by my side during the tributes.
'It's a huge satisfaction to reach this record wearing the Fluminense jersey, which opened doors for me. Now it's time to keep playing and strive for new achievements with each game.'
There has been debate over whether Fabio had already broken Shilton's record, due to discrepancies about how many competitive matches the 75-year-old former England goalkeeper played during his career, which spanned from 1966 to 1997.
In the biography section of his X account, Shilton states the total games he played during his career was 1,387, but Guinness World Records, on its website, has it at 1,390. Adding up Shilton's senior club games in England and his matches for the national team, meanwhile, takes his tally to 1,374. The higher numbers likely come from appearances for England Under-23s and in regional cup competitions.
Shilton commented on Fabio drawing close to his record in December 2023, saying: 'I'll be the first to congratulate Fabio Deivson Lopes Maciel. This great goalkeeper is only 52 games short of breaking my world record for the most official appearances as a professional footballer. He's getting close.'
Fabio has never played for a club outside Brazil and has not represented the national team. His 28-year career has seen him appear in official, senior games for Uniao Bandeirante (30), Vasco da Gama (150), Cruzeiro (976) and Fluminense (235).

Fabio made six appearances in the summer's Club World Cup as his side reached the semi-finals of the tournament, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Chelsea.
Al Nassr and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, is third on the all-time appearance list, having played in 1,284 games.

Report – Saudi Pro League Club Neom Not Giving Up On Signing Ex Bayern Munich Star From Inter Milan

Saudi Pro League club Neom reportedly have not given up on signing Inter Milan defender Benjamin Pavard this summer. This via FCInterNews. The Frenchman has not given the green light on the move yet, however. Inter Milan signed Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich two years ago. And while he has made a big impact, there is a feeling that his form suffered a definite drop-off last season. Furthermore, the Frenchman will turn thirty next campaign. Therefore, there is a nagging sense that this may be the right time for Inter to cash in. Meanwhile, Galatasaray are reportedly eyeing up a deal to sign Pavard. Then, two destinations in Ligue 1 have emerged in the form of Lille and Marseille. Coach Christophe Galtier in particular would be keen to bring the 29-year-old. Therefore, the Saudi club have not yet given up despite a lukewarm response from Pavard so far. Report – Inter Milan Likelier To Sign Arsenal Defender Than Chelsea Star

Inter Milan are reportedly likelier to sign Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior this summer than Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah. This according to today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908. Inter Milan are still hoping to sign a defender before the transfer window closes. The Nerazzurri are well aware of the fact that they need to freshen up an aging defense. The lies of Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi are now well into their thirties. And in the meantime, inter could also reportedly still sell defender Benjamin Pavard after two seasons at the club. (Photo by) Recent reports indicate that Inter have turned their attention to the Premier League for targets. One possibility would be Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior, formerly of Spezia. Meanwhile, Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah is also a long-term target of the Nerazzurri. And there is a sense that the Englishman would be available considering Chelsea's bloated squad. The Corriere dello Sport note that, at ages 25 and 26 respectively, neither are exactly young enough for Inter. The Nerazzurri would prefer a player in their early twenties. However, the newspaper anticipate, if Inter are to move for either of the pair it would be Kiwior considering the Polish international's Serie A experience.

Inter Milan could receive a transfer fee of €12 million from Torino for Kristjan Asllani this summer. Gianluca Di Marzio, via FCInterNews, reports that the Granata will pay a loan fee of €1.5 million for the Albanian this summer. The last few days have seen things finally get in motion for Kristjan Asllani to leave Inter. The Nerazzurri had made it abundantly clear to the 23-year-old that he would not be a part of the project. However, both Inter and Asllani have been waiting for suitable offers. In the last week two clubs have pushed to sign the Albanian international. Bologna and Torino have both been eyeing up a deal before the transfer window slams shut. However, the Rossoblu struggled to agree personal terms with the player. Therefore, this gave Torino an opening to make a move of their own. And Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Granata are now on the verge of an agreement with Inter. Having already convinced Asllani, Torino just have to put the finishing touches on a deal with Inter. Di Marzio anticipates they will pay a €1.5 million loan fee, and then have a €12 million purchase option next summer.
